Thanks for the input. How do I improve my fireball game? My initial impression is that fireballs are very easy to avoid in this game unless you’re Guile, though I might be wrong given that I play HDR on a daily basis (its my only point of reference). Any tips you have please share!
Haha Norieaga, I was just trying to play with my friends Happ on the training mode but i actually playing sanwa so I was screwing around all the moves. Plus, some of the part in the training mode it was him just fooling around.
Thanks for the comments man.
As for the OS Srk, its not really an OS. I don
t know if its possible but i just cant OS Zangief. His lariat i believe comes out in 4 frames and, on top of that, its hitbox is quite high. So usually i
ll try to teach the zangief player to try to evade the demon flips and then when i get the meter, i’ll go for empty safe jumps into Srk`s lots of times, specially if i see that they are just not waiting for it and then, if he blocks, i’ll just fadc and go back to a more safe game.
yeah right, imagine how cool these forums would be if everyone was talking their native language.
It would actually be pretty neat: People from Italy could speak Italian! People from France could speak French! And people from Florida could speak Cuban…
OH NOEZ! SOMEBODY STOLE MY INTERWEBZ RULEZ!!!
Chill out man, we’re just getting our PSN ID’s so we can play online. I know I’m a curious person but, come on, you don’t need to go that far.
Now imagine if anybody would speak any language other than english. Only 0,001% of americans would be able to understand something.
Umh… Lollo’s Italian and I’m Argentinian (living in Canada) so…
Do you know how cool the trolling would be if someone from another character forum came and visited xD
Just copy and paste what they say into google translate.
Which you could do through PM’s… not trying to hate btw, I lived in Brazil for a loooooong time.
so guys im having trouble with the guile matchup, (thanks to superlolo) i did pretty well this time in the ryu matchup, ive heard that guile matchup is in akumas favour, but i have no idea how to deal with him, can some one help me out.?
^I usually just mindfuck Guiles with shaku variations until I get a knockdown, then stuff wakeup flashkicks and a mix between DF throw and crossup tatsu if they don’t do anything. If they come to me, the overhead and the back handed punch are kinda slow so you should be able to sweep him before it hits you.
You have to out zone him till you get the knockdown. Throw fireballs to neutralize the sonic booms and watch for when Guile moves forward to jump over the fireballs. If he tries to anti-air him. If you use shakus properly Guile has a hard time fighting at a distance.
Once you get the knockdown don’t let up.
LoyalSol, do you have any tips for matches against adon?
The Adon match up is still a little foreign to me just because I haven’t faced too many good Adons.
^^ Yeap, against Guile it’s pretty much what Sol and NiN10 said. Rather easy matchup if/once you have this strategy down. I’d add air fireballs in the mix cause they’ll hit Guile when he throws boom or whenever he tries to jump in. Just don’t abuse it else you’ll get air thrown or air HK kicked. And just to annoy and pisst off Guile for more punish opportunities, I’ll taunt Guile once he’s outzoned - lol. It’ll frustrate and make Guile that much more desperate to close the gap to attack for more mistakes/risks and punish opportunities - lol. Forgot, ex-flip attacks are godly against Guile also. Ex-flip throw, palm, or kick into combo that ex-boom - lmao. See if Guile tries ex-boom next time - lol.
Adon is just as annoying and frustrating to fight on par with Boxer and Bison imho. I dislike these matchups especially when they start to turtle on a life lead. It’s practically suicide then trying to jump in attack - ugh - headbutt, jaguar knee, psycho crusher. WTF! Neutralizes all jump in attempts not to mention if they have meter or ultra. Basically it all boils down to patience and getting the early life lead or KO in my book.
Hey, so I got a pm from a person asking about the Rufus matchup and just wanted to just post my response here as well, so peeps can get something out of it hopefully.
Match 1:
1:30, after a forward throw, NEVER do that jump fireball setup. It is just very, very bad. Against Rufus, you should rather dash twice, and then either demon flip palm or demon flip throw.
If he EX messiahs:
-and you did palm, you would be able to block it.
-and you did throw, you will just get hit once in the air and that’s it.
EX snake strike will not hit you either, you can just go and punish him in either case.
So, you see how both of these mixup options have very little risk? And they both have very high reward. With either, you can just do the same mixup or even crossup air fireball setups.
Okay, but back to 1:30 again, you did the jump fireball (which is bad) and then you walked up and overhead. Honestly, I recommend to NEVER do the overhead. Like not at all. SF4 is very lenient with reversal timings and people do crouch teching (and this will just hit you right out most of the time). So yeah, NEVER overhead.
Now at 1:45, okay so playing against Rufus, if you throw a fireball, you want to like walk forward-ish. You do this because if he jumps up, he will most likely do a dive kick to avoid the fireball and get closer to you. However, you want to sweep him right when he hits the floor. This is a very effective fireball trap that grants you a knockdown for you to mix him up.
Properly timing this sweep is hard because they can change their timing on the dive kick so they might hit you sometimes. It’s not that risky because you probably won’t get combo’ed after from such a range. But if you want, you can also use far standing hp which is pretty consistent to hit him out of the dive kick. So, you can try this for now, but later, you want to learn how to sweep the dive kick.
At 2:03, random ultra setup that works. Please don’t do this. Even if it works, you’re getting a bunch of damage without learning anything. You got a good knockdown, now mix him up with solid mixups, not random ultras.
2:28, beginning of the round and you walk back and he rolls. Try to react and sweep that. I know it’s hard, but just try it. Things like this (footsies aka whiff punishing) will make you a better player. Even if you can never react in time, just keep trying. You’ll get it eventually as long as you keep trying.
2:38, against Rufus’s cr. hp, you can actually FA absorb it, dash forward, and sweep him. Against noob Rufuses, this will be semi-easy to predict and read so try doing it.
2:49, you get a sweep knockdown and then you… walk up and hp srk him. Baddddd. You got a good knockdown, so do the demon flip palm/throw mixup. Or even a cross up Tatsu to sweep (only do this if the Rufus is not using Ultra 2).
Match 2:
0:34, forward throw knockdown in the corner and you just sit there. Do something better. Honestly, if you don’t know all of the fancy setups, just do the demon flip palm/throw mixup on Rufus.
Another good setup is right after the throw, immediately doing a st. hp and then do a hk demon flip dive kick. They have to block it very weird, and most Rufuses will not be experienced enough to block it.
0:55, another knockdown with no mixup.
1:55, you get the knockdown but try to do demon flip dive kick. This is NOT effective against Rufus. Try to stick the df dive kick to characters with a Shoryuken. And characters without a srk, do the df palm/throw. That’s just a pretty general rule. It’s not totally true or anything, but just a good basis of thinking.
2:02 - 2:06, kinda bad on the anti-airing here. If you just get it oncee, you can then FADC into red fireball and then mix him up. Just try to react a little bit better.
2:13, don’t ever do the demon flip slide. You probably did it by accident, but yeah never purposely do it (the only time I do it is when I get a lvl 2 focus attack crumple and I backdashed). AND you didn’t even take advantage of the knockdown.
2:16, another good knockdown with srk FADC red fireball. But yet again, no follow through. Do a hk demon flip to whatever. Or you can just do the hk demon flip really early and do a palm, and this would’ve allowed you to be on the other side, so you can do cr. lp’s to a combo.
3:15, if you block a Messiah, just do EX Shoryuken to avoid guessing and just get the knockdown.
3:33, don’t do this.
3:45, U1 does not punish that. He just failed.
Okay, so pointing out all the things wrong up there, be sure to change them accordingly.
Now, to improve there are a few things I noticed that you could be doing:
- When you jump randomly jump at him sometimes, he anti-airs with standing hp (or he can use cr. mp but whatever). A way to beat this is to do the command dive kick (down+mk) at the peak of your jump. This delays your jump time, which causes his anti-air to whiff and you can hit him into a combo.
-Also a good thing to do against Rufus is to just jump forward and do a lp air fireball. There’s not much he can do about it unless he can react really early (or guess) and do jumping hk. Bad Rufus’es will mainly just be guessing, so just do it very randomly, and when they guess with jumping hk, just srk them.
Watch ShadyK abuse it here:
o7_EvdDhNsU]YouTube - Shady K [Akuma] vs ranmasama [Rufus
-When you’re under dive kick pressure, try jump back and immediately doing mp/hp/hk. They all have their different uses. Eita uses jump back mp, Tokido does jump back hp (and sometimes mp recently), and I do jump back hk. It doesn’t matter too much on what you do, but just do it to avoid a dive kick and hit him.
-Also, pick Ultra 2 for this matchup because it is almost impossible to correctly land U1 against Rufus. Ultra 2 allows you to beat Messiah follow ups (except for delayed mk or immediate lk to FADC). Stupid Rufuses don’t know about the delayed mk follow up and they also need 2 more meters to FADC out. U2 can also save your teleports from his U2.
-When you get cornered, just block and look for a opportunity to jump tatsu out. It is very hard to get any offence going when Rufus is dive kicking your face in the corner, so don’t try it. Even if it cost eating some damage, look to jump tatsu out (or even just walking out because he is walking back expecting a jump tatsu)
-When combo’ing against a crouching character, you want to end your combo with cr. mp xx EX fireball to get a good knockdown. However, against Rufus’s stupid hitbox, you have to opt for cr. mp EX tatsu instead. Then, do hk or ex demon flip to follow him for a mixup.
-To throw tech against Rufus, do it by down-back + lp+lk+mp. This allows you to tech throws or cr. mp him out of dive kicks. It is NOT 100% fool proof, but it’s better than just throwing or the normal crouch teching.
And the best way to learn is to just watch videos and then try to mimic it. Look for just small details, like how does he mixup after he gets this knockdown? Or how and when does he back off? How and when does he advance forward? What does he do when he gets cornered? Or against dive kick pressure? How does he use his meter? What kind of block string is he doing? Is he doing anything different or unique that is looking effective (like jump forward to air lp fireball)?

Okay, so I hope you learned something from this. Good luck, man.
tell me what you guys think im from so cal
i meet 2 guys that said they knew you at the tournament Richard!
well
here it is
Ibuki:
^ Two things right off . Either finish the bnb off with srk or get your resets down. Dropping them is losing the advantage. Lastly, better defense. Ibuki basically had a field day, ez attacks.
