Not terrible, but you probably shouldn’t be jumping into Ryu’s with meter and ultra like that.
when exactly? (serious question)
if you’re referring to 1:16 min of the 1st video:
A) i could always have gone for the xup tatsu and his srk would have missed. He knew that, don’t be fooled by the low bp, it’s just because he (like me) almost never plays ranked unless really desperate. After f.throw dash x2 it’s impossible to see if a xup tatsu or a j.hk is coming. Gotta guess, and he guessed wrong.
B) after f.throw dash x2 the j.hk is meaty enough to trade with all his srk except EX…yeah, he had 3 bars so you’re right, he could have gone for ex srk fadc ultra. A bad read on his part and good guess on mine. Gotta try the unexpected sometimes.
EDIT nevermind, he had 3 bars but no ultra.
^ This… He who risks nothing, earns nothing.
is that true?
If they go for the srk i trade 90% of the times so I guess it’s true
a bunch more vids are coming this evening.
2x v. a very good rose (lost the set badly, like 7-2, this leads me to think that the MU actually IS bad since I can beat his other 2 characters without too many problems) and 1 v. Rufus

I’m struggling so hard against Balrog. Any tips?
There were lag issues matches in “vs. Balrog 03”, neutral jump instead of forward jump, and a forward jump instead of demon flip.
Balrog can be a really hard match is the rog is turtling…he can’t do shit on wakeup vs your df hand OS sweep…once he understands that, he’s even more free on wakeup
Yeah, I can do that, I guess. Did you saw any bad habit I should get rid off? Besides the stupid focus after the reset?
well those neutral jump fireballs after knocking rog down in the corner aren’t really a great idea…his headbutt can blow right trough them and you risk eating an ultra. Also all of your demon flip mixups can be shut down by his jump back fierce or down fierce. You can do them once in a while tho so you can catch him by surprise.
Even doing those tk ex air fireballs when he has charge isn’t really safe…ex headbutt can catch you…but he wasn’t doing it so I guess it was ok to try that, but it’s generally not a good idea.
Balrog is one of the characters that you HAVE to sweep after lk tatsu unless the srk/ex srk is gonna kill him. A knockdown is just too valuable in this matchup.
If you aren’t really close, jumping at him can be dangerous…his crouching fierce is very good at catching jump ins, and if he counter hits you that’s a huge chunk of life you’re gonna lose…but again, this balrog was letting you jump in pretty much for free most of the times.
Balrog has a strange hitbox…after emtpy jumping on him on wakeup or after doing an empty df palm, c.lk c.lp c.lp will often whiff…well the last c.lp will whiff…you have to do c.lk c.lp c.lk xx tatsu, that will connect all the time.
also that rog wasn’t headbutting/backdashing a lot on wakeup, you could have used more df. throw. If you land them you can go for some nice mixups.
Anyways, you played quite good
Yeah, I laughed at myself for doing those nj. fireballs while watching the replays. So stupid haha. I was mixing him a lot with the flips because of the “vs. Balrog 02” video. It did work against him, so I was trying again. But he’s a fast learner, also a great player, arguably the best Balrog in Brazil.
When he tried to, I crossed him up. However, if he had used LP headbutt he would have caught me in a very bad trade. So yes, should stop doing that.
I still don’t know why I did that EX Shoryu, but, I always try to sweep him. A hard knockdown is too valuable.
He was aware of my dive kick empty jump shenanigans, but still he punished me a lot for stupid jump ins. Be it with cr. HP, be it with headbutts.
Yes, that sucks. I ended up missing a lot of combos because of his hitbox. cr. lk, cr. lp, cr. lk tatsu is guaranteed?
U2 shut him down with the reversals. Randomly he would try to do a lp headbutt and that hurts a lot. So I tried to take as little risks as possible. Should I risk more?
Thanks for the tips!
You actually don’t even need to OS the sweep, at least offline. As long as you are aware of his wake up options and are watching for it, you can just react sweep the backdash.
yeah c.lk c.lp c.lk is guaranteed. Unless you’re really far away. But after emtpy jumps or properly spaced empty df palm it works 100%.
Well i feel that if he hasn’t got his ultra yet you can risk going for the df throw sometimes. Just watching at eita/tokido’s videos they do it a lot vs rog.
I find turtle Rogs a real pain in the aRse too. Rog’s spam LP jabs (dash punches) beats out any pokes or walkup throw attempts. And his headbutt (ex if has meters) beats out demon dive kicks, palms, throw attempts. I normally keep chucking FBs untill the fawker decides to moves. If Rog has Ultra/Super sometimes this is asking for a “deathwish” I know but that’s a Rog turtle for ya. Quite frustrating and annoying thus I try to rush the biatch whenever I can after a knockdown.

I know I did alot of stuff wrong. But still… I play rushdown and hate to turtle… I lack the patience to spam fireballs @ opponents… and I didnt crossup tatsu vortex.
that bison was NEVER blocking on wakeup…OS hp srk would have stuffed all his ex PC he was continuously spamming on wakeup
After a dizzy don’t start your combo with a focus attack…a jump in combo will do more damage (less scaling)
If you dizzy you opponent after a long combo such as df kick c.lp x3 lk tatsu shoryu the damage scaling will be very heavy…don’t WASTE 2 bars on a fadc combo, just do your regular jump in hp > s.hp xx lk tatsu > shoryu , or reset instead of doing the shoryu.
c.lp c.lp c.mp hp xx hado FADC… is often not a good idea ON BLOCK.
after a focus start your combo with s.hp, not with c.mp
teleport on wakeup can be very dangerous…bison can punish with U2 on reaction…he doesn’t even have to guess, he got loads of time to do it
stop shooting fireballs at him whe he got ultra…that’s pure suicide, don’t know why he didn’t ultra you in round 3…he had like 10 occasions to do it.
a lot of missed combos…and kara demon.
Crossup tatsu vortex isn’t a good idea on bison…it was right from you not to try it too much
He missed the kara demon, I’m guessing it was because of lag. Then again, if it’s lagging, don’t even try this kind of stuff haha.
one thing I noticed about this fight is your positioning. When you have the upper hand, it’s okay to keep yourself at bisons face, as his reversals are all kinda lame (except for ex psycho) and slow. However, at 50/50, you should stay away from his slide range. You got hit by his slide so much it’s not even funny. I know it’s a hard match, and you tried to bait it with your focus, but there’s a range where you will want to stay in the 50/50. And you stood way closer to him 80% of the time on the 50/50 game. He has stupid pokes, almost all of his moves are safe against focus attack and most likely will break it. You can still go inside and outside his slide range, you can because akuma’s walkspeed is godlike. If he whiffs, punish it with a nice sweep or a HP>SRK if you’re in range.
@1:19 on your vid is where you will want to stay. As you can see, you got plenty of time to punish his slide, even though on the vid it was a counterhit. It’s all good to stay there because good bisons will use slide to approach, as he can use it and still hold his charge.
You don’t wanna teleport on your wakeup unless he’s doing the anti-srk jump (front throw, dash, jump in with HP). If he crosses you up, whichever teleport you try, you’ll be in range for his slide and he does have plenty of time to punish you. Or as superlollo said, he can even ultra, and that’s a bad thing, 55% of your life on the worst case.
If he dashes in be ready to tech, bisons love this shenanigan because his dash is so fast. If you’re fast enough you can LK / EX tatsu. I don’t recommend it unless you’re waiting for the dash in and read it correctly.
When you knock him down, be sure to always safejump OS on him. Be it OS HP SRK, OS jump back, just do it.
OS HP shoryu beats
Scissors (EX)
Psycho crusher (EX)
Devil’s Reverse (EX)
U2
OS jump back beats
Psycho Crusher (EX) (you land inside sweep range, sweep him and continue to pressure)
Devil’s Reverse (EX)
HeadStomp (EX) (don’t press any buttons, THIS IS IMPORTANT)
U2 (you can hit him in your way back, just use a good air to air normal like, LK or LP, because they are active a lot, or even EX tatsu)
Any teleport (it resets the fight, though, except for 3P forward teleport which you can punish.)
Also don’t jump on him when he is standing, that’s just plain suicide, he can do literally anything to stop you but will most likely st. HK.
IF (and only IF) he gets the upper hand you can try to approach him. Bison must block far HK twice, so you can throw it sometimes, just don’t do anything after the HK, because he can cr. LK you and HE WILL. Block or backdash.
And, last but not least do not be afraid of his ultra 2, throw some hadokens and see how he reacts. Don’t ever throw 2 in a row, this is just bad. If you see him walking back and forward you can hadoken freely. Bison need to buffer his ultra for it to be effective, and it has a long 22f startup. If you see him buffering, do nothing. If he doesn’t do anything but walk back and forward, you’re free.
Os hp srk doesn’t beat ex scissors. Both of you will whiff and he’ll recover faster
