I’m referring to a footsie war when he absorbs or goes through one of your pokes with TAP or ex rushes. You can cancel your normal (usually sweep) into a demon.
Thanks guys, I’ll go back into the lab and work on some of these things. I really feel that not being able to lk.Tatsu > Sweep is killing my mix up / wake up game
you know what, you’re welcome.
…
I’m on a reeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaally bad losing streak here. I wasn’t winning many matches before, but now it’s just ridiculous. Last night I played about 20 matches and went 4-16 in endless matches. Most of my loses though were close affairs where I thought I had him on the ropes, then I fucked up and got killed with both us at 10% health or less.
What I’m finding out though is that not many people care about footsies online. Most of the time they just stick out random stuff with cheap characters like Ryu or Bison that have normals with twelve million active frames and zero recovery. I find I have a hard time dealing with those types of strategies. When my opponent actually plans out his attacks, it’s a different matter. I still lose, but at least it’s not as bad and I can hold my own, even taking a round in convincing fashion in some cases.
I know my BnB’s, I know a few setups. I work on my timing and I try not to be too predictable. But it seems that no matter what I do, I can’t win against (seeming) randomness. I just fall appart when I see my opponent start flying all over the place doing anything and I can’t seem to find an answer for anything he does.
It’s really frustrating, but I’ll keep plowing forward. Hopefully with time, things will click in place.
Dealing with randomness… rule of thumb… teleport more, and zone the randomness out
Everyone has days/nights like this. You win some…you lose some. Yes it is possible to lose to zero-strategy offense. But when that begins to happen, you have to go back to playing basic Street Fighter. Even if your opponents footsies are seemingly random, you’re footsies HAVE to be superior. Especially when playing with Akuma. He already has 300 health so 2 well placed cr.HKs can really hurt him. Secondly, DEFENSE. If your Akuma has none, then hang it up and play T. Hawk. And finally…Anti-Airing. Of course I don’t need to elaborate on that.
To sum it all up, when getting scrubbed out. Go back to basic Street Fighter. Superior footsies, blocking, and anti-airing all those nasty jump-ins will put more wins on the board for you.
P.S.: A little side note. Play everyone like they have 5000 PP. Never let “low” numbers make you relax. Not even a little. Everyone must die. In the worst way possible.
Did you record any of it? If you’re having trouble, and you’re not just playing mirror matches all the time then I’ll take a look at the matches and try to help if I can.
Also, I added some new commentaries:

They’re probably still in my battle log. I can check it later tonight and upload them to my youtube channel. It’s pretty horrible though, at least the first few matches. I get better by the end, but it’s still not quite there. I’m usually pretty solid, though not very “good” per se. Still, I shouldn’t be getting scrubbed out like I am right now…
So SRK and Demon are counters for Balrog’s TAP?
I tried countering with SRK but once I got only the first hit, which left me wide open for a combo… how often does this happen?
You could try using MP or LP SRK so you don’t go flying and leaving yourself wide open. Dont know if its reliable though
HK Tatsu usually beats TAP clean and so does standing roundhouse. With both you must react correctly. Just go into training to nail down the reaction timing.
James, LP SRK traded with Balrog dealing more dmg in the trade. I was afraid of doing MP SRK since the first hit of it doesn’t knockdown.
I also tried jab and c.MK, but got hit out of those instead. Didn’t think about HK tatsu and st.HK though, I’ll try later.
A deep fp srk is also a great way to punish it, but need to be sure when to hit it.

Some Abel matchup commentary.
Some old fights I finally got around to uploading

In the first match, what should I have been looking to do at the end of that 2nd round? Something tells me I could have ended it a lot easier
Hey guys, it’s been a while. I started to play with some different characters and have not practiced a whole bunch of Akuma but, in the last tourney i entered, i face a rufus player and decided to go with akuma, here’s how it went:

Critics will be appreciated.
Recent games with Akuma. It definitely needs critiquing.

Read the description, by the way. Also, I’m going to 2nd main Akuma. So, any help is appreciated. I main dudley, so it explains why I’m using Akuma and I
m going to put a lot of work into this character. :>

this is my matches against cammy. i did poorly, hope you guys can give some comments to help out.
some mistake i’ve noted.
ps: sorry for poor quality vids, can only record with iphone, can’t be bothered to buy that hauppage thingy.
i hardly do c.lp with o/s sweep cammy backdashed a few.
used a weird combo for the kill was pretty under pressure with this unknown match.
even after tatsu sweep i am unsure of how to safejump properly hence hardly option select with sweep/dp/anything.
don’t really know how to give best punishment for that hooligan throw.
and tatsu, sweep, medium divekick after that even though she whiffed dp i am not sure of how to punish.
few of the rounds when i do tatsu sweep, cammy just dashed out or spiralled arrow out making it tough.
and about sweep command divekick my success rate is way below 50% therefore haven’t implement in my game yet.
any comment appreciated.
I have troulbe with the Cammy matchup as well. But I do know a few things:
- Hooligan throws can be SRK’d or just ducked (if you don’t have the hand-eye coordination and just want to avoid them instead).
- Spinning Back-Fist is tricky, but it can be SRK’d. Though I believe that if you’re spaced right, you can DF dive-kick into BnB on that. Haven’t seen anything in the matchup thread about this, so maybe a better Akuma player can confirm.
- Don’t focus so much against her.
- Blocking low kills almost all Cammy’s ins on the ground. But keep mobile because she can quickly switch up and start throwing you all over the place.
- You were lucky she respected your jump-ins on her wakeup. Most Cammys I play against just reversal thrust kick when I try to do it and I end up rueing the exchange. I watched Rugi’s vid on how to stuff her wake up thrust kicks, but the timing’s really tricky. Definitely worth mastering though if you want to add a dimension to your wakeup game against her.
- This is just “my” preference, but I would’ve gone for SRK after tatsu for more damage instead of the UT knockdown. Mostly because I know Cammy’s options on wakeup are really good and negate almost anything Akuma has.
