You should always do the tatsu at the apex of your jump. Go into training mode and practice it on a big character like Sagat. Once you master landing the tatsu on him go into a smaller character, like a shoto, and practice practice practice.
Hmmm…thanks guys i think norieage hit on a good point that i wasnt applying…i was always doing the LK tatsu, not the hard, thats probably what messed me up
LK Tatsu is way more ambiguous. If timed correctly it can be a great cross up. You literally barely float over your opponents shoulders and smack them in the back of the head. But its a lot less consistent than HK tatsu
Will try both this weekend. Had little success landing LK though, so i hope for good things. Another thing ive started tapping into is using the demon flip but i find this is getting me punished more than getting my combos started. It just seems as if it always goes to far or too short or gets blocked/stuffed everytime. Although you may say im not judging the distance right, thats not actually the case because keep in mind no opponent stands still, they’re always moving so it keeps making me demon flip empty space and gets me punished. I dont see how this move proves as useful or safe as Lolultima and other people say in tutorials. But for sure i think i should master cross up tatsu before demon flop…see what i did there
don’t just throw out random demon flips. the best way to use them is after an untechable knockdown. that way, they can’t do a quick get up and you have enough time to demon flip. demon flip dive kick is important because it can stuff just about anything if you time it right, so it’s very safe. mix it up with demon flip throw if they block a lot, and if they focus absorb a lot, use demon flip palm.
I’m watching those matches in horror. I have a lot to learn. Way too many standing hard kicks, way too many poorly timed cross up tatsus, and definitely not enough mix ups. I also need to practice bread and butter combos while on the ground against crouching opponents. Thanks for posting those James. Good Set.
Oh man, me too - I have TOO much work to do for my Akuma James - do you mind if I add you to my FL? You seem like a good guy and I’m always up for friendly casuals with anyone.
When doing that reset, HK DF puts you behind your opponent, MK DF puts you in front. You can Palm for instant recovery into ground pressure. If you HK DF kick it crosses up some smaller charaters, pretty ambiguous. If they are gonna block, just DF Throw.
Only problem is, since it’s a longer time between the reset and the continued pressure, better characters can react with a DP or other Reversal. The one good point is whenever I pull this off, it’s often the first time they’ve seen an Akuma do it. So the “WTF moment” sometimes stalls em enough so I can keep up the pressure
Not like this contributes much to the conversation but looking at your avatar james…it made me wonder, why did capcom take out akuma’s black gi, it was my favorite color on him, not just because its the original, but it just suited him
Color 10 is his black costume, but they gave him gold hair… Makes him look like Super Saying Goku more than Akuma. But like James said, it looks retarded and the “new” kanji as well.
First three matches I was using my defective TE stick: I modded it with a 2nd joystick spring as per a video on saw on Loltima’s youtube channel. It’s alot more stable, but I can’t get used to the stiffness. In the last two matches, I use my old SE stick which still has the Sanwa buttons I bought when vanilla came out (the sanwa joystick I transfered to the TE which is now broken…). These were fun matches! No pressure, no rules, just a bunch of guys together trying to have fun (though CLxJames just about lost it when some scrubby online cheese Ryu showed up and ruined it). There was quite a bit of lag during these matches so don’t be overly critical. I was able to land a few gimmicks though, so I guess all that time I spent watching JR’s vids wasn’t a complete waste. James was able to JR me a few times too, so it was all fair!
After our matches I played a few more against random peeps:
I don’t know what happened in that 2nd round against Honda… But I did make a good comeback in the 3rd. In the other match, I noticed in the 1st round I was still relying too much on FB combos so I changed it up in the 2nd. I gotta get those out of my system again, though it should be easier now that I got my old stick which responds better. I can’t wait to get the parts I order to fix my TE stick.
Like I said I got no problem losing to people that are better than me but that guy was just annoying. We played later that night and I eventually caught on to his gimmicks and destroyed him twice in a row before he left my lobby.
Im recording a TON of matches atm, should be ready by later tonight
here are some cammy matches:

I already know most of the obvious mistakes I made. I’m looking for help for like the more subtle things, and other options in a situation which would have been better.
The end of the video looks dumb lol, but I was thinking she was gonna come at me with a full screen burnkick so I did that air tatsu where she was waiting me to land and ko…
