"Critique My Akuma!" Video Blog Thread

hmm, i will put into practice this advice, thanks  The only issue ive had with focusing fireballs is that if i focus 3 or 4 straight then mistime the next focus i lose that whole grey bar’s worth of regeneratable health and that can drop the health down almost halfway if i mistime that one last focus. Its especially hard to time against sagat, since the fireballs come out so fast.

Sure

  1. Use teleport only to evade an attack, say for example a wake-up or if you’re cornered.
  2. Random tatsus thrown around, use the tatsu only once you’ve hit-confirmed.
  3. Red fireballs are good in fireball wars, just don’t use them when you’re very close.
  4. Closing distance? Walk forward or use the Demon Flip Palm.
  5. Use the Demon Flip Palm to punish fireballers.

Also, I recommend you hit my Youtube and watch my Akuma fights. I’m shit but I know how to play a “non-random” style of strictly countering attacks. I consider that a good first step before learning Akuma’s real shit, which is what I’m doing.

you don’t have to focus like five fireballs in a row. do two or three then sit there and block. they will want to get that damage off you so will play reckless (sometimes). anti air them with srk or down fierce.

hmmm…yess…i like the way you’re thinking, i will go try that right now that the tv’s free, hit me up with a friend request sometime :stuck_out_tongue:

dont focus more than 2 fireballs at a time. learn to verticle jump fireballs. there is no reason to focus 5 fireballs… that just retarded.

yeh i tried that focus stuff, doesnt work for me at all. jumping kinda does but its really just annoying that an opponent wont stop throwing them. I did win 5 out of like the 35 matches i just had on psn though, which is somewhat an improvement but not really, its still more an embarassing statistic. i won 2/2 of my bison matches though…as if that grants me any merit for headstomping everywhere xD

However i realized today that i think i lose a lot not only because of my aggressive playstyle, but also because i dont really know how to start his combos AND i always miss dragon flips, i seriously jump over peoples heads with it or just get anti aired…have i not been informed on a good way other than crossing up to start any combos that use Lk tatsu to hard SRK?

just be patient and work towards a knockdown. walk forward, block, walk forward a little more, etc… and force them to make mistakes. don’t worry too much about chip damage or else your opponent will control you with his fireballs and make you do stupid shit. after you get a sweep or forward throw, start the vortex and keep the momentum going your way. watch out for jump ins when you pressure them, because you will force him into the air so be on the look out for it and punish with c.hp or a dp.

the way to win in this game is to be patient and block a lot. seriously

Wait, what the heck is vortex. Sorry guys i never really got into the whole breakdown of fighting styles, and akuma wasnt in SF2 the new challengers…so i have no idea what “starting the vortex” means xD

The vortex is basically getting an untechable knockdown (one where your enemy cannot do a quickstand) and then initiating a pressure trap. That pressure trap involves cross-up tatsus followed by a sweep to get the UT, and then continuing the pressure from there.

Vortex is just a fancy name for a wakeup pressure game. Using regular jump-ins and cross-ups along with the demonflip (and its multiple options) to keep your opponent off balance.

call me stupid, but how did i not think of this before O.O sounds genius, keep hitting them down…so they cant get up and shoryuken … MWAHAHA i will get revenge on all those kens who demolished me today… i hope. So after i knock them down…do i do a jumping MK to cross up then do hard kick when i land…? for some reason i think that will just get blocked… and the demon flip sweep gets blocked a lot i dont see how that will work, but ill go and look on youtube for some examples of this apparent strategy.

Here’s an in-game demonstration of the vortex.

Pretty famous around these parts, take a guess why.

haha i know tokido momochi ed ma infiltration and all those guys  they’re awesome akumas for sure

Be carefull when jumping in on a shoto (Ryu, Ken, Akuma) as they can often negate any wakeup pressure with a reversal SRK which often will auto-correct to smack you out of the air. You CAN do it, it’s just that you’re going to have to learn how to dictate the flow of the match first and that’s not going to happen right away. The best advice is what Pootnanies said: “be patient”…

Patience often enough can win you matches against shotos. Learn their tendencies during the first few instances of the match. Do they like to jump in a lot?

Also learn to land BnB punishes ALL THE TIME!! That’s the key to Akuma’s success. If you always capitalize on your punish chances… Well, you’ll be playing much better than I did in that video. Shouldn’t be too hard!

hahaha that guy can’t even combo. Lag switch, hahahahah

If anyone wants a Cross up Tatsu tutorial on lesser players here you go. Cross up Tatsus are really important in the vortex pressure Akuma applies.

Yeah, that Chun user is a loser. I’ve heard too many people claim he rage-quits and bitches, and I’ve seen his bitching first-hand in one of the other posts.

I Second that he gets mad salty when you beat him then talks trash when he barely wins i just ignore him now :wonder:

Ok so Ive tried cross up tatsus but for some reason i seem to just do the tatsu but it doesnt hit before my akuma hits the ground. When should i time in, i think i keep doing it too late because he says the tatsasaruken or whatever and i hit the ground behind my opponent and it doesnt connect. should i do the tatsu directly above their head or later or earlier?
