Local ranbat

epic commentary !

I liked your combo at around 2:00 until it randomly stopped xD

good stuff though, nice matches

Now THAT… Was epic!

umm… is there a girl or a child-man (reverse of a man-child…obviously…lol) getting raped in the background of this video?

so much random yelling…lol…

pretty good matches but I do need to mention that you focus a bit too much. If the bison wanted he could have beat you up for it on those jump ins but he was too afraid of the counter-hit crumple so he just took the hit (blocking) basically every time. Hell… he could have even teleported and punished the whiffed focus. But you know… if its working… go with it. But in general for “future reference” there was indeed way too much focusing as a means to get in.

the problem with the match wasn’t you but rather the bison didn’t know how to play against akuma. you played well and dictated the game while the bison was basically unable to anti-air…ever…lol. It would have been a blowout had you crouch blocked more (then again… you wouldn’t have had your ultra then? lol). You should really tell your bison friend to dash under the demon flip when its an obvious set-up for it off a normal (such as in the corner). Also… not enough devils reverse for gaining meter and dictating the match a little more since you weren’t showing any sign of being able to reliably anti-air with anything but your ultra…lol. I’d also want to see more safe kicks into c.lk safe kicks instead of him basically backing off every time after a scissors. Its hard to interrupt c.lk after a safe scissors with anything but an anticipatory SRK because it has better range than c.lp of akuma which is the only comparable speed normal (and most akumas don’t use c.lp spam as a get off tool as ryu or balrog might at times).

I guess I should mention that the bison needs to realize that if you get ultra’ed in the SAME manner 4 or 5 times… or about in half the rounds played… you are doing something wrong…lol. He should have been using cross-ups, scissors, and c.mk more in his footsies to avoid that silly demon damage (really glad the damage dropped down in super…partly cuz I never get to use it …lol).

overall good set of matches… specially given the fact you all were drunk or stoned by the sound of the commentators…lol…which were a little loud but actually rather interesting at times

Good anti airs in that rufus match (wish our local rufus would jump half as much…) but you missed SOOOO many hit confirms. Probably because of tournament stress or something, happens to me all the time in important matches, hahah. You also used way too many ex df from full screen to get in…those can get you killed in a matter of seconds if the rufus player knows what he is doing.

Good matches

Akuma vs Gief

10 minute long match cause I was playing alot of zoning/runaway =\

Was at my first tourney, so I was kinda nervous so I made a few (alot) of bad plays and dropped a lot of hit confirms.

You’ll find that I did alot of st. HK and cr. HK because i was trying to look for a knockdown or hitconfirm into BnB >_> Never really worked out though. Whiffed a few SRKs trying to do fireballs.

i think that he got a little flustered… he usually gets to walk all over people. my hitconfirms sucked that match yeah… also i know ex df isn’t particularly safe but i can usually tell when people aren’t going to be able to react fast enough

first, there is nothing wrong with a geif match taking a long time. If you play the match too quickly akuma will usually be on the losing end… or the other geif doesn’t know how to deal with demon flip AT ALL.

Don’t get so scared in the corner. And DON’T teleport out until he is jumping at you or he is literally right on top of you… Trying to poke your way out of the corner works well. Just poke back and forth a little so the geif isn’t just sitting there waiting to punish a jump or teleport and then when he gets a bit closer teleport or tiger tatsu away.

too much jump-back fireball to start matches. You can be a LOT more aggressive against geif… you just have to do it without using normal jump-ins. Another good way to get some pressure is to demon fllip at him, but use a demon flip that will land you barely in or outside of sweep range. Basically you are baiting a green hand or a lariat which you will then be able to punish. If they don’t respond to it then you can c.mk, demon flip, or hk.

don’t demon flip at full range on geif though unless you are punishing a PPP lariat as you tend to land in front of him for an easy lariat without geif even worrying about trading.

there are only 3 times you should use ultra on geif… really only 2. Those two are to punish PPP lariat (or KKK lariat if really close) or as an anti-air. The third is the whole “if you KNOW they will throw out a slow poke… demon” but its not reliable and can get you killed quicker than it can save you since geif loves meter if u hit and punishes hard if you don’t.

try doing demon flip off some normals every once in a while… such as c.mp or c.mk. It can help with pressure and can help you make the geif actually think a little.

You have GOT to punish green hand on hit/block. If you aren’t you’ll likely have a near impossible time against a geif thats even slightly good.

c.mk is a guarantee punish of lariat… it crouches under the lariat so if you block a hit of lariat the safest bet is to do c.mk and then c.hk. The c.mk hits if he comes forward… the second c.hk will hit if he went backwards.

cross-tatsu is suicide on geif… its only useable basically if you’ve REALLY conditioned the geif to expect divekicks… A LOT. And they are slow on pounding out the lariat. Basically… don’t use it. After a demon palm… try SRK. It should reversal basically everything as long as you touch the ground first. So if you have 2 bars…go for it… walk up srk with 2 bars (wake-up) works really well as well. And speaking of meter… no ex fireballs except for air… and for air… even then it should be sparingly as geif turtles too much for a defensive one to be of help except to get the last hits on someone… and a jump forward gets beating by either EX green hand or PPP lariat on reaction easily enough.

also… in general… you need to work on your footsies and you need to work on baiting things out. He shouldn’t be able to get away with doing spd anticipatory to a poke without at the very LEAST getting swept. Basically… you need to work on the match-up a bit and work on finding how to land hits.

thanks a whole bunch =D

I was really scared of poking against the gief because of lp SPD :\

About the c.mk on the lariat, could I hit confirm it into HP SRK? I also noticed I backdashed a lot, which could be punished by a greenhand, I should prob work on that too >_>

^if u feel hes going to green hand u, you could backdash demon him

lp spd can be scary as a anti-poke… but its just as easy to NOT poke and make him realize its usually not a great choice if the akuma can punish it… since it can’t be done on reaction. Just Understand when you tend to poke after certain things. In other words… make it SEEM like you don’t realize you are being repeattive and then BAAM… do nothing and punish his whiff hard with a jump-in on reaction to seeing the whiff (or at least a poke).

as for the c.mk against lariat…easily. Actually what I do for lariat is I do c.mk and I start to do a tatsu motion… if it hits I press lk and do a bnb combo and if it doesn’t I just throw out a sweep… Most geif lariat AWAY from you if they are smart though because they know shoto c.mk combos really easily against lariat so you won’t be landing the initial c.mk poke usually unless you literally BLOCKED the lariat. Usually for lariat bait (already having gotten them to throw it out trying to anti-air) I do c.mk first to catch them if they move towards me… and then do c.hk right after to catch them if they move away. It probably one of the best ways to get a safe knockdown chance against geif.

and you don’t backdash demon if he is hitting you during the end of the backdash as green hand does usually (since they do it ANTICIPATING the backdash). There is nothing wrong with backdash… its awesome in the match if used correctly. A few of the times you normally would just backdash… try walking back (which is holding block) instead and see if he green hands. If he does it should be a free c.mp c.mp BnB combo.

Why dont u put up some matches vs Abel (teehee)

west you shoulda jump back mp’ed the shit outta that nigga. if you dont get the dp on his far jump in fierce or if he does it at tip range or something be ready to react to a follow up dive kick. Usually you can just jab him out of the followup, or jab dp if you want to knock him back a bit, or the jump back fierce/mp. The only way that dude was getting damage is he was grasping for random ass jumpins.

I’m gettin back into SF4 again and I got new capture equipment so I’ll try and put some shit up soon.

At 0:44, what were you looking to do there? The HP reset > lk.DF I mean. Is that an attempt to catch Bison with another BnB? Or were you just trying to keep the pressure on?

Im not questioning your tactics Im just trying to learn

I would question those tactics when playing against a good Gief. A good Gief will CT your ass all day on playing footsies that way (throwing sweeps after block etc)

yeah pressure, and maybe something i can react to, like if he teleported i might catch him with HK tatsu.
as u can see i got the reset which is a little less than a DP, then i got the unscaled divekick for another reset.

your reading without reading the post before which I was being asked a question about. 1. We are talking about baiting lariat… so the lariat is already having been thrown at which point you do c.mk and then c.hk. The c.mk hits if he uses lariat to spin towards the person and c.hk hits afterwards if he decided to spin away. There is no blocking by geif involved… (reads own post) … actually it says pretty clearly in that post what I meant/said as well.

You just read it wrong.

And 2. Good geifs don’t throw out random lp spd to catch pokes often unless they are playing a bad opponent or they are not actually good. Even if I was talking about doing c.hk after a c.mk, which i wasn’t, its not the end of the world unless you do it consistently and are easy to read. Although if I wanted a follow-up to c.mk being blocked it would actually either be another c.mk, EX tatsu (if I know he spd/green hands a little too aggressively), jump backwards tiger fireball, teleport, jump back empty (to catch him trying to green hand under the fireball), demon flip cancel, or tiger tatsu over his head (usually as a way to get out of corner pressure). Though c.hk is an option after c.mk BEING BLOCKED, I’d rather not risk something like the hitbox of lariat bopping my head or a super punish.

And @ ClxJames question to west… basically divekick is the “I’m not sure yet how to read the opponent” option as well. Most characters have a hard time stopping it so they usually get counterhit or they are forced to block it. Either way you get to keep up your aggression and at the very least did chip damage (demon flip moves do chip). It also hits jumpers pretty regularly and gives you a chance to OS if it didn’t hit.

Makes sense. And then again after a lk Tatsu if you are againt an opponent that cant be swept you could HP reset > lk DF mix up shenanigans to keep the pressure on them since you cant get that untechable KD
