"Critique My Akuma!" Video Blog Thread

It’s not hard to stop from trading most of the time. Just walk up crHP xx medium demonflip. Generally tho DP is a better option overall. But crHP into demonflip has given me some huge comeback wins.

I’m no expert and you’re a better Akuma player than me, but just a few things from what I’ve seen:

  • You used back throw a few times, I think it’s pretty much better to always go for forward throw since backthrow keeps you in an awkward position for mixups
  • The Balrog player used his ex dashes to escape your mixup quite a bit, I think you would have stopped him from doing that if you used meaty DF palm (breaker) a few times, if he didn’t dash, just option select crouching lk into a combo/block string.
  • I think you burn precious meter a bit too much during block strings by going to FADC far roundhouse even when the opponent is blocking, it might be good for pressure, but IMO it’s better to keep those bars since meter is very important to Akuma.
  • Went for FA level 3 quite some time even when he wasn’t in range, it’s pretty easy to see those coming and people can punish Akuma very hard for doing 'em
  • Ant-air more often, using late HP SRK (use those 6 frames of invincibility to avoid trading), crouching fierce and far standing fierce depending on range of the jump.
  • You used x-up tatsu a bit too much at times, I think you should work on making them more ambiguous so you’d mixup deep jumping roundhouse with 'em and mess with your opponent’s head on which way to block.

Lots of jump fireball fails and full screen Ultra punish fail.

Thanks for the tips Metallica, that kind of read really helps me get my game going on. And reading your tips and seeing the video again makes me feel im playing like a retard. Thanks for the tips, gonna try to improve, especially the meter issue.

Me vs the no1 player in The Netherlands in the grand finals.

I got really nervous first few rounds because this guy’s in Ryan Hart’s sf4 team.

don’t take this as hate… but I chuckled a little at that option select dp at about 1:48 or so.

Overall its hard to say much cuz the ryu… well… the ryu kinda sucked. But you seemed to be dropping stuff after lk tatsu a little (should NEVER happen…) and you weren’t doing stuff on wake-up. You also need work on your cross-up tatsu from the looks of it. Combo at 2:03 or so was HORRIBLE. WHY??? Why would you do a c.lk in a ex fb combo? That shit is like 2 years worth of hit-confirming and you jumped in too so there was NO reason to not hp bnb that which would have been less EX, more damage, and more meter built. And then instead of c.hp/hp/c.mp s.hp/c.lp s.hp/hk you do c.lk @ about 2:54? Aye, Dios Mios! … …lol

Try to learn to Zanku when you see someone holiding down their focus… or just simply jump over them and sweep/combo. Walking up is straight suicide and hk isn’t very safe unless you are doing it to land ultra.

poor use of focus… ryu is not a good character to use focus against if they are any good. f.hp on reaction beats it for a HUUUUGE combo… c.mk/mp fb is the most common poke…beats it. And he can srk aftera jump in easily enough. Don’t use focus on ryu as you did… plz? The good use of focus was focusing the fireball… Though it was risky and a bit lucky. Generally for fb focus dash backwards is a better option if you did a focus and let it hit instead of focusing THROUGH it. course you completely ruined what was good of it by giving him a super for bare minimum ultra damage. Basically you gave him a free super, lost your ultra, and did the same damage as a hp combo (which would have landed easily). Live and learn… no ultra unless A. you backdashed (I’d still trip unless it wins the round) or B. it wins the round or C. They already have 3 or more bars of super.

You could have walked that ryu down SOOO easily. I could tell he was itching to jump in on you. Inch crouch block would have fucked him up (step forward, low block, and then keep doing it until he jumps and you c.hp, fb too predictably and you FA through, sweeps and you sweep punish back, or c.mp fb and you either block the fb if you are afraid of it being EX or you FA it or FA through it).

Good ultra at the end of first game.

against THAT ryu hk to your hearts content… dude wasn’t very good. Against a good ryu though its gonna hurt.

oh…and c.hp a little earlier if you can.

ohh… and you seem to jump after untechable knockdowns too late…

Be a LOT more ready with your ultra in this match-up at mid range. Sweep ultra keeps rog away really well as does c.mk ultra (c.mk the safer against jump-ins option).

If you jump back and see him go EX start mashing srk after the hk. Missing free damage usually if you don’t.

don’t jump in the corner… headbutt goes VERY far forward into ultra.

he is a jabber balrog. Cross this type of balrog up more instead of tick throwing or walk-up throwing. That and pausing slightly out of c.lp range and throwing c.mk or chk work well too… or srk instead of throw when actually ticking (but try to only do this with 2 bars).

stay on the ground a little more and keep doing c.mk while buffering srk. If you have ultra you can also hk and/or sweep. For that matter… hk is pretty good on boxer.

CROSS UP TATSU PLZ!!! Also demon flip throw and demon palm are great against rog.

@2:16… see… THAT is when ultra is a good choice :pleased:

@4:22 I actually felt bad for you…lol…it happens

don’t try to srk after fb unless you KNOW you have it.

and… too much focus… c.mk srk is much safer option in the match-up as he DOES have has as well as combo-able armor breaks that if he EX when he sees you focus you’re toasty.

srry to be harsh sarda but you just seemed to be off on a lot of things and a little focus happy. Was there HD lag or something?

'sup Gator for the comments. No hard feelings for the ‘funny comments’ and such but no problems. To be honest, i was really nervous and lots of the dropped things are due to that.
Besides that, all the tips are helping me, thanks.

I’m practicing a lot of stuff so i hope i’ll improve on the things. Somethings i already knew like the ultra opportunities, i just couldnt react at that time.

Can you explain a little more about the focus issue ?

i pm-ed a response.

Don’t learn to use his ultra too much after focus… its almost never a good choice. Having ultra changes a lot of match-ups, makes his sweep basically safe (well… safe from focus and makes them wonder if they should sweep you back or not) and the meter you give them is almost never worth the extra damage you inflicted. Now, his Ultra 2 might be worthwhile after a focus but if it doesn’t hit after a lvl 2 then it remains shit in that regards. Who the hell lands a lvl 3 focus except after a stun (and you can deep jump-in ultra 2 him for more damage instead)…

3 weeks needs to go by faster (but slowly) so that I can get used to this slightly newer slightly weaker akuma along with ibuki, juri, and dudley. And I really want to find some miracle use to the ultra 2…lol

@ Sarda: Maybe it’s me, but I thought that Rog just didn’t respect you ONE BIT! It’s the kind of stuff I’d expect to see in online Champ Mode. With your skill, I was expecting you to punish that shit on wakeup when you knew he was going to stand over you before you got up. And I know I’ve seen you pull out c.MK - Ultra in other matches, why not in this one???

@ MooiboyRoy: Don’t sell yourself short. He may be the #1 Player in the Netherlands, but he was also a grade-A scumbucket (can’t stand idiots who buffer QCF from full screen away or mock the opponent like he did at the end). For all his talents, it looks to me like he had his hands full with you. Had you been a bit more patient, you could’ve stolen a few more rounds against him. I hope you get better so I can one day see a video of you administering a severe spanking on him.

Wow… I’m really amazed at the talented Akuma’s I’m seeing lately (my own seems so pathetic). Gotta hit the training mode and try out some of the stuff shown here.

Yeah venom, i can pul it off frequently. That rog is my cousin and i dont think ive lost to him in the past couple months. Seeing me nervous in the tournament he rampaged me. I’ve been training hard since then.
Hope i can do better on the next videos/matches/tourneys. Everybody is helping me here, thx !

Ah… Going soft on the family, eh? Well DON’T!!

Haha, yea, he was a cocky mofo ;).

at mooiboy… next time you play him … use your backwards throw… walk a little forward… and start teabagging him. Then SRK as he wakes up. The first time you do that they almost ALWAYS either srk or grab on wake-up because they are pissed…lol.

Haha, good mindffing.
I’m not gonna pull that at a big tourney like that though.

you’d be surprised what will work in tournaments. Walk-up/empty cross SRK 5 times in a row for a stun… yea it does happen sometimes…lol.

If you screw up your opponents mind enough you can get away with anything. It is amazing how the mental game works.

I’d like to thanks everybody here in Srk. It has been my home for info on fighting games for almost four years now. The reason why I’m saying this is that im happy to share with you guys that i could win for the firts time, two sets in a row against one of the best sagat players in brasil. I once lost to this player 30x3 and 25x2. I won this time around by 16x14. I know the score can change at any time, but this single victory helps me to see my evolution in this game and a lot is due to you guys from the Akuma forum. I still have a lot to develop and ive been training hard, but im a little happy to see this.

My next goal is to learn how the hell i fight viper and mirror matches.
