someone explain to me why this is the most easily interruptible ultra in the game. everyone has a regular to stop it. ryus neutral jumping roundhouse was the only thing i originally thought. but now i have learned that ANY normal will stop it if it lands right. ive been jabbed out of it. its so horrible and slow on top of that.
i mean this is just oh so bad. both utlras now are almost useless…
anyone… anyone… can anyone tell em the damn point?
why can gen be jabbed out of it
This did not need a new thread.
Yes his U2’s suck. The only reason U2 crane was created is too give Gen a tool vs fireballspam (which is way too obvious if your opponent knows the matchup anyway). You’d be better off sticking with his U1’s in my opinion, then again I’ve never played around with his U2’s extensively due to my hate for them early on.
There are really only two characters I use Crane U2 on. Guile and Sim. Both really force you to jump as Focusing their projectiles is the worst thing you can do vs them. Sim you will eat limbs, guile you will eat spinning back fist or some other normal. Both have really good AA’s. Sim’s Tigerknee AA works really well vs Gen. But when Gen has Ultra he can’t afford to do it so it causes him to block or do something else. Which allows Gen to get inside. Guile he will use AA’s or jumping throw. But when Gen has Ultra he can’t do any of them or he will eat the Ultra. Most of the time I don’t even use it until I’ve jumped in a few times and made them pay. That IMO are really the only times I’d use Ultra 2.
It’s a trash ultra. Capcom fails. If you could at least do an instant version of it I might be impressed. And apparently giving an ultra priority is out of the question. Here you go! Have a new awesome air ultra! What you say? Ryu just did a jump back roundhouse and it beat it? Oh well, it looks cool right!? And you can’t combo into it, it’s way to slow to really do any fireball punishing. And there’s no way to do it instantly. Well, at least the mantis ultra combo’s well, scales basically the same as mantis ultra one and only does focus damage, but hey! It looks cool! MIRITE!?
Capcom failed Gen in so many ways its stupid to even pretend like they didn’t. There’s pretty much NO reason to use his ultra 2 set. Even in some matches, you’re just risking doing a random air ultra hoping to punish something that’s likely to just trade with it. And then if you combo into mantis U2, you’re yet again just hoping you can get another hit in before it regenerates. More and more fail.
If you didn’t make threads here saying how to get out of gen’s ultra’s 24/7 and complaining it wouldnt be common knowledge!!! Also it is easily

You can combo into it. It’s not easy, but you can.

Not only not easy but unrealistic. Completely based off where oga hits. Unreliable when I can just do the same thing with Ultra 1 for pretty much the same damage. Almost everything in that video can be done with U1. Neutral jump punish srk? Just land and do mantis U1 and it will do the same thing. The only thing that was even remotely different is punishing fireballs. And punishing anti air normals or anti air in general is unsafe as I have had it trade on many occasions. And it’s just a jump in guess that they’re going to anti air.
Just more shinnanigan garbage.

Cancel ex oga thru fireballs (if that isnt already in the vid, I dont have time at the moment)
what do you mean cancell ex oga? explain please
Hello,
New to the SRK forums but I have been reading up lately to get more info about SSF4 in general.
Crane U2 is a bit off in terms of usefullness but I did try to test to set it up as a crossup. Strict situations/timing/placing but it was possible to do it after any throw. Anyone care to share if they had any success on this? Apologies if this question is a bit off topic.
i think he means that you can do ex oga (drop) to escape fireballs.
I think the trade has to do with timing, frame data doesn’t state the invincibility frames (since its more of a grab). But when i’ve used it, the closer you do it to you opponent the less chance of it trading. Gen’s air placement, kinda resets when you use it, so using it closer to the ground also makes a difference.
It’d good to pick against people with really nice AA normals (Balrog, Guile) and people who do moves in the air that leave them vulnerable (Akuma’s air fireballs, Ibuki’s kunai) U1 is a tad bit more useful in those cases personally. Also really nice against charge characters since they crouch after jumping most of the time.
^it has NO invincible frames. do it to early and you will be beaten out from an AA. do it to late and your opponent block. only usage is as fireball counter [which requires still some decent timing, since he travels way too slow / arc] or as a2a, which has to be done AFTER your opponent done his move :X
guile and sagat are the only ones where it can be handy IMO. even then it depends on your opponents playstyle. u1 is mandatory and doesnt require a “luck factor” to hit, since you can combo it frequently
Not the most precise button inputs I’ve seen, but eh, good info.
Then again, everything there is possible with U1, with the exception of EX Hands > Ultra.
Would mantis U2 make a good AA alternative to Crane U1?
Alternative AA ultra when using the ex- oga behind guile into crane U2 offensive strategy (or fireball type)
Why would the fact that you can jab him out of his crane U2 ever matter, that is the dumbest complaint I’ve ever heard. If they are at neutral and can jab you out of U2, you did it wrong and should consider yourself seriously lucky that all you ate was a normal. Most characters do not just eat a normal when they fuck up an ultra.
Because usually you either combo into an ultra, whereas something done from the air needs to catch them in an animation, and Gen’s Crane U2 usually just gets hit by the hitbox of whatever special attack is being performed, like lariat.
This is why I suggest Ex oga for positioning, moves fast, though projectiles, you can alter the direction at least twice before they know where you’ll lands, and you can just U2 mabe?
That’s true but Crane U2 already destroys, for example, most normal anti-airs because it repositions/delays you in the air and generally avoids the active frames of the attack. If there’s a problem with U2, it’s with the Mantis touch of death ultra, because it’s so bad comparatively. If the choice was between Mantis U1 and Crane U2 or Crane U1, I would take Crane U2 every time. As it is, Crane U2 is good enough that I personally take it against Dhalsim and Guile, and a huge percentage of the cast in this game relies on normals for anti-airs, especially now that Sagat and Ryu are much less significant.
The thing that frustrates me about U2 is losing the super->ultra comeback factor, which is in my opinion one of Gen’s greatest strengths right now.
