What people need to think about is the fact that Crane U2 works well vs characters that force you to jump in, Sim and Guile. Both rely on making you jump in because you can’t Focus attack their projectiles. Sim will hit you with limbs and guile can hit you with spinning back fist. Most cases you have to neutral jump or jump in. Then they both use AA’s to shut you out. What you need to do is focus attack dash back and build your meter. Play patient and if you can help it when you have Ultra jump in. If they are smart they won’t AA you, and just block. Keep it stocked until the right moment.
I think there might be a few more match-ups where it might be worth looking into U2. It’s honestly something I’ve only recently looked into because I had written off ultra 2 for a very long time. You can do some interesting things with it, like tag Ibuki’s jump back dagger throw. Also I bet it works on Zangief’s lariat if spaced correctly, since it would tag him in the head. I’m basing this on the fact that Condor Dive can beat lariat when done late.
Crane U2 is a pretty good jumpin. Mantis U2 is just… ass.
lolololol.
They are both ass.
Mantis U2 is hands down the worst ultra in the game, no doubt. Its the only ultra that can end up being 100% beneficial to the opponent. I’m REALLY amazed that they aren’t fixing this joke of an ultra for AE.
Just stick with his U1’s they’re really solid anyway.
Teiga can be useful, but if your opponent knows about it (it’s an overhead and can destroy fireball wars) it is not really that beneficial.
I actually wish they would reduce the recovery on his Teiga when he lands, at least then we can land in front of an opponent, bait out something, and then punish with super or whatever. It really is a bad ultra, but in terms of usefulness, I believe U2 completements Gen.
When Gen has both Super and U2, your opponent can’t jump-in on you because you can do Crane Super.
They can’t throw fireballs because Super will go right through, and if that’s not enough, Crane U2 is like a 2nd super to go through fireballs. I personally use U2 because once I get super, I feel like I have all my options covered. And I can force my opponent into a footsies fight, in which if you’re not Chun, Shoto, Rose, or Fei. You pretty much destroy the whole cast with footsies.
Not to mention, the added mind-game to having your opponent trying to runaway and recover health after Mantis U2. and in some cases, I even go for the cross-up Oga. and if I don’t hit them, I can at least bait a reversal, and say hello to more damage, if not a Mantis super, by which then my damage output will skyrocket to 900, nearly killing half the cast lol
If anything, there should be a gray-damage buff on his Mantis U2, at least 550, if not 600 gray damage. But maybe that’s pushing it, idk.
kinda old but no gief would lariat that early. they can do it after you activate and knock us out
you can activate U2 as late as possible during a jump in, and it’ll reset gen’s height, so still a valid use.
no it wont come out at certain heights at all. but it does reset height. bottom line is you cant hit a half good zangief if he decided to larry you
The resetted height is in fact Crane U2’s height restriction point.
Also after height reset Gen is within Lariat’s vertical range, so you need to get lucky even if you baited it out.
It can say GGs to akumas who decide to play chicken and do a lot of jump back hadous, as long as your not the one who gets baited out.
So, Gen’s height restriction on U2 contrasts with say Rufu’s dive kicks and cammy’s ex.cstrike which have no height restriction? So it’s safe to say that at a certain height, ops can be sure that Gen’s U2 can’t come out and they can safely anti-air or go for a trade/clean hit?
Yes for the first question, but restriction is pretty low like right above Ryu’s head. If you input command and press kick below that height, j.HK comes out (as a whiff if your opponent is on the ground) and you’re open to punishes.
or if you do it and you have super., and your height is too low. when you land you will do crane super on land. very depressing
Crane U2 is perfect vs characters that have projectiles like sim and guile, where Focus attacking through them isn’t a good option. So if you have U2 stocked it allows you to jump in, don’t use it, just see if you can get in on them, if it comes down to it then let it rip if you think they are going to AA. Countless times, I’ve had very defensive guiles and sims just keep me out, so I would focus back dash their projectiles, play safe, by neutral jumping, build ultra meter. test the waters before it builds to see if they would allow me to jump in, 99% they don’t. so once i have it stocked, I try it again, if they aa me, I go back to playing full screen to make them forget about my jump in, and then U2 at least second if I see one of their animations start up. If they don’t AA me when I test the waters while I have U2, I apply pressure.
yeah, maybe it would help vs guile. i just feel so random and dirty sometimes when i use it to beat an AA normal or as an air to air. but i guess its really no different from a gief player empty jumping into a 720 in that you are guessing that your opponet will react a certain way to seeing you jump
i wont really use it against sim. i like being able to punnish his instant jump back fierce and wake up teleports, but if it works for you, then its whatever
against dim. focus his air stretch dash in and tiger knee it. youll catch him. its fairly easy. also its so easy for sim to AA but its easy to see coming too so its easy to U2 him during it. i always take a hit or 2 on purpose. atleast i jump in knowing it should not be safe and i should be stuffed
i do agree with u all about u2…but i find if u can master tigerkneeing the motion.people cant react as fast wen your right in there face…i still think its stupid how u can get hit out of it…still love the ultra animation XD…’‘suffer and die coward !’’
If you’re in the arcade mode waiting for challengers like me, try finishing rival battle off with crane U2.
