Does your LCD monitor have VGA? If so go for Dreamcast VGA cables.

What is the best Saturn to Dreamcast converter: Innovation Dream Connection 2 or EMS Total Control 3?

I liked Total Control 3 better.
Innovation brand products are known to break too quickly.

P.S.
Total Control line of adapters from EMS has weak solder joints
for the memory card slot. So be careful how you toss the adapter around.

Hi, the link on the first post to the “input lag tester” doesn’t work anymore. Do you know of another link or another way to test input lag?

That was the only link.

Spoiler

Oh gosh, no other way around either? I’ve got no way to film at 60fps, my nexus 4 arrives at 30 fps, and i want to test this adapter

i.ebayimg.com/t/PS2-Joypad-Adapter-Adattatore-Convertitore-per-PS3-e-PC-Alta-Qualita-T5-/00/s/MTYwMFgxNjAw/$%28KGrHqZ,!pIF!Mi66N7zBQgq5vCMm!~~60_57.JPG

it looks like an inpin ripoff but it’s easily available where i live, but i have to know if it’s lag free or not. I can’t tell the difference just by playing.

Now a little while after. I saw someone say that this is better: http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/gamecube_to_usb/index.php

Technical info: http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/gc_n64_usb/index_en.php

It’s endless!

Does anyone have the InputLagTestor testing program mentioned in the first post? I got a new converter and I want to test it for lag. The original link in the first post is down and while Kyle was nice enough to post a mirror on page 26 that link is dead now too.

Edit: I see now that some of the most recent posts established there is no other link, what a tragedy. Has anyone PM’ed Kyle about it? Hopefully SOMEONE who still posts here saved the application.

Bought a Mayflash Adapter to use my Hori EX2 on my PS3, doesn’t work at all for me. Plugged it in, the lights on the controller start blinking and random inputs keep registering. Yet it works fine with my regular wired 360 controller, no problems.

Any solutions or do I need a new stick? The stick works fine with my 360 and PC.

I have 2 PSone digital pads, one of them is brand new, just took it out the box, they would both register up+right when I simply press right at times, they have the same issue when used on either the Pelican or InPin converter. I have digital only pads from the PS2 era (Sega Playstation, Neo Geo Pad, ASCii) and they work fine. Anyone know what’s up?

Both of those converters have issues with PS1 digital pads. See the first post in this thread.

Unfortunately the original pads have the most compatibility issues with converters.

Sorry for not checking

Do you know if the Sumoto adapter still works on the PS3? I know that some converters stopped working after the console had been updated a few years back.

One more question, if I completely remove the analog sticks from the DualShock 2, not just the rubbers, will it still work properly with the InPin or will it have the same issues as the PS1 Digital Pad?

You’d need to neutralize the thumbstick axis with resistors after removing the pots. There’s probably a post on here somewhere telling you how. If you’re just using it in the DS2 shell still, there’s really no need to remove them completely

So are there any good PS2/360 converters around at the moment? I checked the OP and it seems like the only link that isn’t dead is the one to the Xtokki 360 converter, which is sold out. I recently bought the Mayflash adapter and after about a month of use it seems to randomly bring up the Xbox Menu whenever I press a button. And does anybody know about the reliability of this converter? http://www.amazon.com/Black-Controller-Adapter-Converter-Cable/dp/B00CZ7NCAQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407815197&sr=8-1&keywords=xtokki+360+converter

For those who are interested, I tried to use the Super Famicom Wii Classic controller with the Wii Classic to USB converter from Mayflash on the PS3, the dpad and face buttons work great, I did not notice any lag, but the L and R buttons do nothing.

These are clones and they work fine. Something that rhymes with “Decks Ark Fade” sells the eTokki on ebay, but seeing is how they’ve screwed over people on this forum and have been selling bunk products for years, you’re better off buying the clones than to give them any money until laugh from etokki.com updates his site.

Are there any good Sega Saturn to PS3 converters out there? There’s a link on the first post but it seems to be out of production.

A month late here but the Mayflash SS/N64/PS2 converter seems to work well enough for me: http://www.mayflash.com/Products/PCUSB/PC048.html ; there is also the Mayflash SS only to PS3/PC which I have not personally tried - reports seem mixed and the mapping is also funky: http://www.amazon.com/Dreamcast-Controller-Converter-Adapter-Mayflash-Sega/dp/B00K7YK0YA

Speaking of which thought I’d add some other info that is circa 2014 with working links (9/30/14) to actually buy them. Sort of a journal I suppose, sorry if a lot of this info may be redundant –

As of this posting I feel like overall the controller converter market seems to have really tanked. The “good” stuff seems to be long out of production and the readily available converters seem to be either too cheap to be of any serious quality or poorly tested. I am speaking generally of course. This makes the options quite limited and/or confusing.

Some specific examples that have really frustrated me - etokki no longer has any xtokki or inpin adapters available and seems to be a poor outlook on any future product being made available after contacting etokki. Tototek does not seem to carry anymore of the PSX to Saturn converter, I tried reaching out to them but no response. Keio PSX/Saturn converters seem to have gone out of business forever ago.

This leaves (imo) just Mayflash and EMS as somewhat viable brands that still produce converters and/or are readily available.

Here are some converters that I have purchased recently and notes.

In full disclosure:

  1. I have no affiliation with any of the stores in the links provided
  2. I currently don’t know what input lag software to use so when I say no noticeable input lag I mean that I don’t notice it in-game however I’m no frame counter expert

Mayflash SS/N64/PS2 (roughly $20 shipped)- I opted for this one over the “universal” model as I value the Ps2/Saturn capability and I scoffed at the idea of needing a 360 wired pad for the universal one as well. Note there is also a Mayflash SS to PS3/PC version. The first thing I noticed when plugged into my ps3 is that for PSX controllers the mapping is a bit off which seems a bit unnecessary – it seems to push the SNES layout where L1 = HK and R1 = HP (or in other words it sees L1 as R2 and R2 as L1). I gather it also has a weird mapping for Saturn controllers as well. There are plenty of Amazon reviews for this one but I don’t see the above mentioned. The good news is it seems to work with my Hori PS2 stick and no noticeable input lag in Capcom vs Snk 2.

PII PIII Converter ($4 shipped Amazon) - PS2 to PS3/PC. I saw this at a local store for about $6 and figured why the hell not. I can’t seem to figure out who produces this one but it is SUPER common on the web and comes in packaging that features a lot of broken engrish and is impossible to open without cutting yourself. There seems to be many revisions which makes it quite confusing (mine has A01 printed on the box portion of the converter). Long story short I like this one, haven’t had any problems with both controller and ps2 Hori joystick, the mapping seems to be proper unlike the mayflash, and also no noticeable input lag. If you don’t want or need the Saturn portion of the Mayflash I’d recommend this one instead.

EMS Total Control 3 ($25+ship from play-asia) - Very nice Saturn to Dreamcast converter, works as expected with my Saturn model 2 controller with no noticeable input lag. Wish I had a Saturn stick to test!

http://www.play-asia.com/total-control-3-paOS-13-49-en-70-46.html

EMS Total Control Plus ($30 shipped ebay - also at Play-Asia) - PS2 to Dreamcast. I ended up with an old version of this one at first, don’t get the old version (it was too tight fitting ps2 side, couldn’t physically connect with my official 4x DC memory card). The current ‘plus’ version I picked up looks really cheap because there is no big glossy sticker on top (which the damn ebay listing shows) it just has EMS silkscreened on top and no marking for wheel/pad/stick on the side which is confusing. It does however work great with my PS2 Hori stick with no noticeable input lag.

etokki Xtokki ($34 shipped ebay) - PS2 to Xbox 360 converter without the need for a wired 360 pad. I managed to find one of these on ebay despite being somewhat discontinued from etokki. Works great so far with my Hori Ps2 stick and even an old no-name ps2 extension cable. Has an X button on the converter to allow for Home button access and a side port for a headset if needed. As for lag I want to say it’s good (it should be), I only have UMvC3 for testing right now, a game which I am not too familiar with quite yet. FWIW It has no apparent branding and feels a little cheap in the hand so wondering if maybe it’s a knock off of etokki’s converter?? Maybe not?

It would be great to hear from other users’ 2014 experiences… the FGC controller converter market really needs a kick in the pants :frowning: or maybe the time has already come and gone. Right now I’m still trying to find a PSX to SS solution!

The Xtokki always came in bulk packaging, no brand on it whatsoever.

A great place to buy no-brand converters
