Converter Compatibility Thread

ive got a yellow pcb… i bought a no name converter which didnt work. i was advised on here that the tac would deffo work. it responds a bit, but the buttons act weird and it doesnt go lest. any ideas guys???

IGNORE MY LAST POST… I CAN CONFIRM TAC ADAPTER IS WORKING WITH MY YELLOWISH PCB BOARD!! i just messed around with the switches on the adapter and it worked… im so happy  hope this gives light to you guys, coz i was gonna give up. trust me i know how you feel. but i can 100% confirm tac adapter works, i havnt done a lag test but it seems fine. good luck

Thanks for the update. The TAC converter doesn’t need any more strikes against it. Is there anything labeled on it so that you could provide the working configuration?

yes it seems that everyone has found the SFAC yellow pcb to work well with the inpin, tac and i assume HAIs converters

I think it is the SFAC with green pcb that we need more info on

and unfortunately i have the one with the green one!!

There are 3 switches on the TAC adapter, GP=gamepad(You need to switch to this to play your stick or controller.) RB=Rock Band GH=Guitar Hero.

So are those PSX to PS3 converters lagless? I have a Super Dual Box (one of the triangle shaped 2 port converters) and also some generic translucent green Chinese converter and both are slightly laggy with the PS3. Neither of these converters lag with my PC though. I would say both converters lag about 3-4 frames.

What is the best non-laggy PSX converter for PS3 that any of you guys recommend?

InPin, Pelican, Real should all definitely be lagless. The Sumoto is another a good/cheap option if you can’t find one of those.

I haven’t used the Sumoto on the PC yet, but I’ve bought 3 for PS3 use so far and am LOVING them.

I have been looking around to see if a HRAP2 will play PS2 games via a 60gb PS3 and any specific adapters. I’m going to get a couple of inpins when they are available again unless I find out they don’t do the trick.

Since the original xbox controllers were usb spec with a funny end, anyone try using a female usb to xbox converter? I was considering getting one of these, but wanted to know if someone tested this with one of their controllers. Figured a PS3 controller was a better bet, but it might even work with a xbox 360 controller

You will need to run Xbox Linux or a homebrew application for that to work. It won’t natively take USB input like that as best I’m aware.

you just need to grab XBCD drivers, people found out long ago that xbox used usb connectors so some people just spliced their port and added in a real usb thing. From there people made drivers

here ya go

hey doublefanboy, who got that adapter to work with SFAC green pcb 8V??

Maybe I misread, but aren’t these drivers for PC? Because I wasn’t talking about taking old xbox 1 controllers and using them on PC, I was talking about using USB joysticks and using them on the old xbox.

On Toodles’ MC Cthulhu instructions, he says that instead of wiring a MC Cthulhu for the old xbox, that you can just use that adapter. I figure that the old xbox wouldn’t recognize a controller unless the drivers were native, but do PS3 controllers get recognized natively on PC? Figured if they do, maybe there’s a shot that it might work. Worst case, I guess this will only work with a MC Cthulhu board.

It was Adroc. He provided an ebay link, notice this generic adapter doesn’t have a brand or anything. But Im pretty sure its the model 538.

As doublefanboy stated, the converter that I got is a generic one with no brand name – I do not know whether it is the model 538, but this converter has 2 PS2 connectors to 1 USB interface, as shown in the picture if you click on the ebay link.

You probably have a different adapter(my bad), the 538 only has 1 PS2 connector.

Here’s my review for the Sumoto PS2->PS3 adapter.

I ordered the converter through Ebay from the seller linked to a few pages back in the thread. Paid right away after auction ended, item shipped the next morning and I received it in 1 business day. I live about 200km away from the seller so that explains the fast delivery. All in all, no problems regarding the purchase.

As for the converter, it’s brand new and looks exactly as it does in the product page. First thing I did was plug it into the PS3 to test with an arcade stick that uses a DS1 for its PCB. No problems. Next I tested it with a regular DS2 pad and it seems to work just as fine. Next I went into training mode in SF4 and began testing the adapter performing ultra setups, links, and combos. Buttons were mapped correctly right off the bat.

Granted I didn’t test it with every character, mostly just Rufus, Ryu and Sagat’s juggles, etc. However, tricks like Cammy’s TK Cannon Strike, Dhalsim’s Instant Air Teleport, Viper Knuckle cancels and Gief’s dash forward 720 ultra were coming out just fine. I also tested for dropped inputs by holding directional inputs for a few seconds and found no problems there either.

There is one thing I cannot seem to hit consistently however, and that’s Balrog’s headbutt juggled into ultra. I’m not a boxer player so the only times I use him is in challenge mode, but I need someone who owns the Sumoto to test his ultra setups. ie. C.LP, C.LP, C.LK xx Headbutt, Ultra or some variation of it. I can never land the headbutt after, I usually just end up jumping backwards. This also means I’m stuck on his hard trial 5. Thus I need someone who owns the adapter and test it with Rog so I know it’s not the converter and is just my execution. Oh I also can’t do Elf’s RSF (2 hits max), but I heard that loop is hard as hell to perform anyway.

I’ll need to play SF4 more to get a better idea but so far everything feels good offline. Online still sucks though with the input lag but we already knew that.

Back to the converter. I know someone already brought this up in the other converter thread, but I can confirm the 4 LEDS on it do not light up when plugged into the PS3. There’s a menu button on the converter functions as the PS Button, also pressing the analog button on the DS2 will bring up the XMB.

The Sumoto claims to support vibration. I have not yet tested the converter with any games other than SF4 so I can’t say whether it really does or not. (Does SF4 even support vibration? I haven’t felt any when I’ve played it with the DS3).

The Sumoto also claims to convert any dancepad and racing wheel to PS3 and it has a joypad <-> guitar switch on the side. I don’t own any racing wheels or play Guitar Hero so again, I can’t say if it does or doesn’t support them. As for dancepads, I plugged it into the PC (tested and no lag btw) to use with Stepmania. The PC detects it right away as Gamepad for PS3.

Here’s when I run into a problem. It doesn’t look like the converter can recognize simultaneous left + right or up + down presses. Some converters can change into dance mode by holding Up+Select+Start but that didn’t seem work either. Checking the controller properties there’s no option to switch modes. Maybe I’m doing it wrong and am forgetting something or there’s a workaround if I install another driver but so far after initial testing the Sumoto does not support dancepads contrary to what it says on the packaging. Anyways, I already own a Super Joy Box Pro 3 which works fine with dancepads so this isn’t a major problem but I figured I should let everyone know regardless.

Finally, I get the feeling the Sumoto converts everything to an analog signal. Even dpad inputs. Reason being the analog light is always on when the DS2 is plugged into it and I can’t seem to turn it off. As mentioned, pressing the analog button on the pad acts as a PS button. Could this be a potential problem? Are there games out there that require both dpad (digital) and analog inputs to play? This is probably why the manufacturer included directional buttons on the converter itself. In any case if there is a problem with another game, chances are we’d just switch to a DS3.

Sorry, I don’t own Tekken 5: DR or VF5 and the PS3 isn’t backwards compatible so a MarkMan review will still be better to measure the Sumoto’s performance. I may do a followup after I get more hours of playtime with other games to confirm vibration, lag, etc.
