Awesome, I just PM’d ReKLeSS and I think I’ll PM d7onr8 to see if he can help me in my quest for saturn->PSx converters. That would be so boss
he pm’d me asking if i was still interested to buy one, and sadly i totally forgot =\ he somewhat disappeared since then. i wouldn’t mind grabbing one at some point
Yeah when I was at his profile, one of the visitor messages was asking about buying a converter off him, but that was back in NOV 2008. Hope he comes back.
Yea i’ll be sure to post it, but it won’t be anything special, just a smaller box to hold the PCB and I may actually take your idea and do a dual layer project box for my Virtua Stick Pro which i’m going to wire for PS2 (hence why i’m getting two converters).
I just bought one of these off of Ikagi-chan. I’m excited to get it.
Here’s ReKleSS’s profile. And here’s the original thread. I was going to order one of these back then but I was too busy soldering and hacking up Saturn pads.
Woot! Thanks Kyle, time to start researching/building :smokin:
EDiT: I was reading thru the thread and it said it was incompatible with the inpin :crybaby:
BUT! I remember reading d7onr8 confirmed it’s compatibility with the Blazepro? Also good.
Hmm this is interesting since I just got a Virtua Stick Pro but I already bought a new 6-button blast city CP and it would probably be easier to add 2 PS2 PCB’s instead of desoldering and resoldering the Saturn ones?
Did you get that one that sold on eBay recently? Had Cthulhu’s installed in it, I believe it sold for $250ish? I was thinking of doing the same thing, buying a new CP and wiring up a pair of PSone DS Type H’s, but if I could just use this converter, it would save me a geico load of time and money
Ah, I’ll have to apologize for this one Truckasaurus. I helped out ReKleSS when he sold his first batch of these converters a few months back by shipping him a bunch of cheap Saturn to PlayStation 1 converters (the really crappy ones that had a whack ass button mapping and only worked with PS1s) to use as shells for his own programmed chips. Reason I’m apologizing is that post you quoted from ReKleSS actually got its info from my own testing with the converter with the inPin. So no, unfortunately it doesn’t work since the inPin doesn’t have very good (Read: it has absolutely TERRIBLE) compatibility with PS1 Digital Pads. So, sorry for killing hopes, but I’m sure you would’ve found out anyway. :xeye:
Gigazord, frankly, if you can somehow put together two of ReKleSS’ converters, I’m almost positive it’d turn out much better than soldering up two PSX PCBs to put into your HSS-0130. Unlike with Toodles’ Multi-Console Cthulu, ReKleSS coded his converter to read as a perfect PS1 Digital Pad, so not only is it lagless even when chaining converters, but you won’t have to sacrifice the original glory of the HSS-0130. The only issue is finding converters that work with the PS1 Digital Pad, but that frankly shouldn’t be too hard. There are a number of PSX to USB/PlayStation 3 converters out there that are lagless and work with PS1 Digital Pads (like the Real and Hais converters) and we’ve got confirmation that ReKleSS’ converters (and as such PS1 Digital Pads) work with the Blazepro. Of course, this is just my humble opinion of course but I find converters to be much safer than alternatives such as project boxing or adding multiple PCBs in terms of reversing the work you’ve done (although project boxing is INFINITELY more elegant) and especially with something as rare as the HSS-0130, I’d definitely take the converter route over gutting and replacing of PCBs any day of the week.
Yea the thing is I was considering a few options. I at first wanted to keep the HSS-0130 in its original format but than I realized that I will never use this thing for the Sega Saturn, heck I don’t even have a Sega saturn though there were good games for the system. The other thing is too, I wanted to replace the stock buttons so that would require me to de-solder anyways…than I thought to myself…I kind of want a 6 button layout…so I went ahead and bought a Blast City CP (I like the way it looked). I guess in a purist sense I’m raping the original HSS-0130 but it is going to be my go to stick when I’m playing at home and I can’t ever see myself getting rid of it. Buuut I was planning to just take out the original CP with the guts and everythign and replace the CP with new stick and buttons leaving me with some options that way if I did want to restore it to its original form I could…
I was debating on whether I should go the project box route and make a project box for each system, put PS2 PCB’s in the Virtua stick and use the inPin and XConverter, or put the PS2 PCB’s in a project box and use the converters from there (not too much different from the other option). I guess either way I’m not keeping the stock Virtua Stick but not sure which option to go with.
Good news for the blazepro converter. I tested it out with the 3in1 mayflash pcb, so far so good.
To Truckasaurus, I got your PM but I think everyone has already answered your questions and you have found Rekless’ info with Ikagi-Chan’s help. The first post in his thread, in case you missed it, links to his page that shows technical details.
To Gigazord, I would also try to get a hold of Reckless and ask if he is making converters again. I know he did a limited run, and I think he only let a few of us buy two from him since we had HSS-0130’s. The reason I say get a hold of him is because I think it would be a shame to alter the Virtua Stick Pro. But that’s just me.
I don’t think subscriptions to threads are working correctly on this forum (at least they aren’t for me), so maybe you guys should PM Rekless as I know that those are working correctly (got Truckasaurus’ PM just fine).
Yea I’m on the fence on this but I mean the thing I don’t like the 8 buttons layout and I wanted to put some Sanwas in it. But thats the main reason I am getting a new control panel, from what I can tell it should be as simple as unscrewing the original CP and putting a new one on, that way if I want to bring it back to its original shape, I can simply put back the original CP which will have everything still connected.
So yea im’ pretty sure I will mod it but it wont be anyting irreversible, sorry to derail the thread.
No problem Gigazord. I mean, if it were me, I’d do some modding myself, but just like you, I’d want to reverse it just so that I can bring it back to its original state in the future should something unexpected happen and I need to (say for instance if I had to sell it [hope to god this doesn’t happen to you]).
Anyways, all things considered, I WOULD go the project box route. It’s VERY pricey compared to just sticking in a set of PlayStation 2 PCBs and using converters, but that way you’re at least future proofed for the next gen (which I won’t lie is still quite a way away). We simply don’t know how long companies will be willing to make PS2 to anything converters and like hell any company’s going to be willing to try and make a proper PS3 or Xbox 360 to anything converter. So yeah I recommend the project box route. Just hook up your buttons and joystick to a DB-15 cable or something and have a ball!
Yea wire it to some DB-15 connectors, wire up a PS2 project box and use the converters off of that.
Blazepro tested on dual panel HSS-0130 Virtua Pro Stick (stock, unmodded). Using custom Saturn to PS2 converters made by forum member ReKleSS, works flawlessly as far as I can tell no noticeable lag. Tested 1P and 2P side separately since I have my second Blazepro adapter on order. When I get the second adapter in, I’ll only edit this post if I find problems. Tested on MVC2 with Official 360 pad as donor piggyback.
blast you kyle!!
you know i can’t say anything because i didn’t even read it until it had a pending sale next to it, so i didn’t really think anything of it other than DAMMIT HOW DID I MISS THAT?! i was too concerned about the saturn pad haha
edit- i did score 2x dreamcast ascii ft controllers off yahoo.jp auctions for 1k yen though. i’m pretty excited.
I hereby report that Magic Path II doesn’t work well with my brothers PSX pcb stick (not sure what model, one of the original old ones without analog). It works, but the directions are not “held in”. So moving forward or backward/blocking becomes dashes and so on, auto-fire style. Sucky.
It works well with my PS2 pcb stick, though, but that does him no good.
EDIT: Wait, scratch that. It wasn’t an original PSX pcb, it was a cheap third party. Guess that’s why.
