Converter Compatibility Thread

Anytime man. Hope it helped!

haha

I apologize if this has been asked before, I searched briefly and couldn’t find any solid answers

Has anyone tested a GCN to USB converter for use on PC? Specifically with SF4?

As soon as markman posts his review, I’ll probably take one off ya laugh, I love my inpin(other than the home button turned a bit finicky, but it’s not a huge deal) and this looks like the x360 version of that.

So, this thing with my current converter giving me odd button mappings on PS3 is a bit annoying. It’s great for PC which is my main use, but at friends it takes so much time setting up the button config, which is annoying because I specifically made the stick with the same layout as the madcatz sticks to conform to easy standards.

So I was looking around for a usb converter that’s made with PS3 in mind… InPin looks sweet, but if possible I’d prefer to not order internationally. So I found the DragonPlus converter real dirt cheap in a store here.
My pcb is from a cheap (and very pink) PS2 controller, not sure if it would be lagless with that converter, but for the price it’s worth a try.

Can anyone tell me if it(DragonPlus) maps PS2 buttons to the correct PS3 buttons?

^ there’s a couple people selling InPin converters in the Trading Outlet that are located in the US.

damn, i and i just ordered an inpin from laugh… if i had known he was getting these, i would’ve waited and picked one up to save on shipping. oh well… ill still get one eventually.

Sorry, I’m not in the US. Thanks though :wonder:

I might still order an InPin from laugh, this DragonPlus seems a bit shifty… Still, very cheap. Could be worth the gamble, and if it doesn’t work out I’ll bite the international shipping bullet.

Awesome find laugh, I will definitely purchase one if markman’s review is positive!

any wired controller works with xconverter360 or is there one preferred over the other?

the mayflash and xfps both state you have to use an official controller, but i’ve used a madcatz with my mayflash and it worked fine. hopefully it will be the same with the xconverter360.

Hahah laugh you’re the GUY. I love how we’re all testing these Chinese 360 converters with mixed results, dual-modding and coming up with all kinds of crazy ways to have our beloved sticks work with everything, and you’re all, “You want PS to 360 converters? BAM, KOREAN TECHNOLOGY BABY!”

Expect an order in the near future

Good deal. Just my luck I just sent my hrap2 to get 360 modded. I was about to cancel but it’s going to cost about the same since I’ll need to buy a wired controller. I think I’ll get both in case my 360 pcb dies.

Kyle, I think it’d be best to edit the first post of this thread with information regarding PlayStation X to Xbox 360 converters and what you can and cannot use to bypass the Microsoft security scheme.

Although I haven’t used an XConverter 360 yet myself, I have used the XFPS and the Max Shooter and I can’t imagine the XConverter 360 would function any differently with regards to the passthrough technology used to bypass Microsoft’s controller security.

YOU CANNOT USE A WIRELESS XBOX 360 CONTROLLER WITH A PLAY AND CHARGE KIT TO BYPASS THE SECURITY SCHEME!!!

It simply won’t work. The Play and Charge Kit does NOT send any controller input data through the USB charging cable. The charging cable only sends voltage through it to recharge the batteries on your wireless controller. Although you can use the P&C Kit to automatically sync a wireless controller to the Xbox 360 you plug it into, it will not function as a proper pass through for any PSX to X360 converter on the market. PERIOD. No “What-ifs” about it.

What does work however is basically every other controller made for the X360 that isn’t wireless. Although the manufacturers of these converters (XCM, Mayflash, and now Joytron) recommend that you use the official Microsoft wired controllers, the truth is any wired controller will do since the only aspect of the controller that the converter utilizes is Microsoft’s security chip to trick the X360 into believing the converter is a genuine Microsoft approved controller. This entails:

 • The official Microsoft Xbox 360 Wired Controllers (and the PC Windows LIVE controllers since they’re just repackaged X360 ones)
 • Any Mad Catz wired controller: This entails any of their 3rd party controllers, all X360 FightPads, all X360 FightSticks (yes, both the Standard and Tournament Editions), the Xbox LIVE Arcade Retro Stick, and even that Saitek Aviator Flight Stick.
 • Any Hori wired controller: This entails any of Hori’s wired X360 controllers, the EX2 (and all variants), the Real Arcade Pro EX (and all variants), and even those crazy cool but expensive accessories like the X360 Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram Twin Sticks or their Ace Combat 6 Ace Edge Flight Sticks.
 • Any wired “instrument” controller: Yes, you read this right. You can indeed use your assorted Rock Band or Guitar Hero instruments as a passthrough controller for the reason above that all the converter cares about is the security chip inside your wired controller. As with every other brand listed, this ONLY applies to the wired instruments that actually send an active data stream through its USB cord. You obviously can’t use any wireless instruments or any instruments that use the USB to recharge the battery of the instrument (I don’t own Rock Band or Guitar hero, so I don’t know if these accessories exist; someone correct me if I’m wrong). Note that the Rock Band microphones do NOT WORK as a bypass controller. They don’t have a Microsoft security chip in them oddly enough.

Caveat emptor!! ANY CONTROLLER THAT HAS BEEN USED AS A SECURITY PASSTHROUGH CANNOT BE USED ON THAT XBOX 360 WHILE THE CONVERTER YOU’RE USING IS STILL PLUGGED IN!!

That means if you use a FightStick to passthrough Microsoft’s security scheme on a converter, you can forget about using it as a second controller. This is because each and every wired (and I’d presume wireless as well, though this info is uselss for our purposes) controller has a unique ID which the X360 temporarily registers while it’s plugged in. Your passthrough controller technically “gave up” it’s ID to your converter so now your converter has your controller’s ID, meaning that plugging your passthrough controller into another USB port will be useless since your X360 simply won’t recognize it at all. However, unplug your converter and you can use your passthrough converter just fine. And while I’m not sure about the XConverter 360 that laugh is currently selling, with the XFPS and the Max Shooter, you can actually still use your passthrough controller on your X360 so long as you plug it back into one of the converter’s USB ports.

What should you do if your converter isn’t working with your gear?

Troubleshoot! More than half the time, people report that their converters don’t work only to find out from a more knowledgeable source that they did something wrong in the process of hooking everything up. If you’re encountering problems, start by unplugging everything. Replug in the following order:

 1. Your PlayStation X arcade stick or pad
 2. Your wired X360 bypass controller
 3. Your PS2 to X360 converter into your X360
 4. If you find that your converter still isn’t working, unplug the converter from your X360, plug in a different PSX stick or pad (which should ideally be already confirmed as working in this thread’s first post), and try again.
 5. Should you find that the newly plugged in PSX gear works, but your previous gear didn’t, great! Report your findings to this thread so Kyle can update the first post detailing what PCBs can and cannot work on your converter.
 6. None of your PSX gear working? Then maybe you should try a different bypass controller. If you find your gear working with the new bypass controller, report to this thread that your previous bypass controller didn’t work so I can update this post!

That’s it! There isn’t any more steps since if you did do it all right, your converter should work fine and dandy. If you’ve exhausted every other option, then you probably have a dud. Now, it’d be a good time to contact the person who sold you your converter to get a replacement, a refund or something.

I understand that some people might be thinking that this was a gigantic waste of my time and might protest against me posting this, but I didn’t want this thread to suddenly get a huge influx of useless posts asking questions such as “Would [insert name of X360 controller here] work for [insert PSX to Xbox 360 converter here]?”

just pmed for an order =D im in the UK

if i could give you rep i would, excellent post.

Sounds good. I’ll overhaul the OP once reviews start coming in of the two new 360 converters. I’m especially excited to see what people think of laugh’s.

Dunno if this will help at all, but here’s a vid of the guy testing the BlazePro ps2->360 converter.

I could surely use some more feedback on the XConverter 360. I’m thinking about getting one but the only person that says it’s lag free is the seller and I need more feedback from people who play fighting games exclusively.

YO! Thanks for this link, I saw this same converter at a local shop and was skeptical about it, I think I’m gonna go pick it up this week, and Laugh just shipped me my order for the joytron xconverter 360. I can test them on an MC Cthulhu PSX and a PSone DS type H PCB as well and give some input on what results I get. Anybody got more info on ?
