Converter Compatibility Thread

Sup. I’m new to the converter thing. Did some searching here to get some info for a converter I wanted, saw a few matches but nothing in detail. I had in mind to get the following:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-h5-49-en-70-46.html

For anyone who’s used this, how well will this work using 3rd party controllers?
I just bought MvC2 for DC (ebay, still waiting for it) and I wanted a 3rd party Saturn Eclipse stick from eBay to use for it. The other DC sticks (agetec) are hard to acquire so I wanted a decent 3rd party alternative if it will work.

Also to, I had for some time the Sumoto USB Converter for PS2/N64.
-tried for Vista, failed (i’m sure Vista’s to blame)
-tried fixing in the control panel, buttons were just flashing with me having no control over
trying to fix them
-tried an old PS1 stick Asciiware Specialized Joystick, didn’t work
-tried a 3rd party N64 controller, didn’t work

I don’t use the sumoto adaptor anymore, but how’s the 3rd party support for the Total Control adapter?

I tested out some USB converters on the PS3

it’s fun playing with the Genesis Pad with HD Remix…But only 4 Button setup on the PS3…as well playing with the NES Pad…I made a Genesis/NES & SNES to PS3 layout

Genesis 3 or 6 Button

PS3 - Only works with PS3 & PSN games

Start/Mode - [ ]
A/X - PS3 X
B/Y - PS3 O
C/Z - PS3 ^

SNES

A - PS3 X
B - PS3 O
Y - PS3 ^
X - PS3 [ ]
L - PS3 - L2
R - PS3 R2
Start - PS3 L1
Selete PS3 R1

NES

B - PS3 [ ]
A - PS3 X
Start - PS3 ^
Selete - PS3 O

This is why I’d like a PS3. If you loaded Linux on there . I have a Saturn and NES pads wired up for the PS2/360, but it’s definitely not as straightforward as using a converter.

I sort of skimmed the whole thread, i just bought a agetec stick, are there any decent converters for it to work on PC via USB?

Not that I’m aware of. There’s a Dreamcast to USB adapter but it doesn’t recognize the stick portion of the Agetec. Supposedly only the buttons register.

I’d like to say real quick, I recently got a brand new PS1/PS2 MAS stick from Arcadeshock.com, and it works perfectly and lag-free with the good ol’ inPin. Tested on my PC using the LagInput Tester from the OP.

Type of Stick: MAS Systems Super Pro PS1/PS2
Converting from: PS1/2 to USB (PC and PS3)
Converter used: inPin converter

Tested and confirmed lag-free. This was a relief as I had heard the newer MAS sticks had trouble with some converters but this one plays awesome. If I get the chance I’ll review it with the cables4pc converter I had, but I gave it to a friend of mine since I got my inPin.

bump… because people are too lazy to search for this thread.

so i successfully repaired my messed up Pelican PS2/ps3 converter. I laid out the process in this thread

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=189201

anyone who has any questions(I’m 90% positive a similar “technique” that i used can be applied to any other converter whose cord goes bad) feel free to hit me up.

I’m using the DragonPlus converters and let me say that it works very well. It is very cheap but I haven’t used it a lot yet but till now, tried with ps3 and pc and works flawlessly without noticeable lag (don’t have anything to test its lag). I’m using a psx A serie controller.

Very nice. Do you have any pictures of the end result?

Thanks. Are you on firmware 2.7? And does your controller have analog sticks or is it the original PS1 controller?

unfortunately i didn’t take any pics during the process cuz i didn’t think about it but i can take some pics of the final result tomorrow and post them up.

Kyle / ALL - (posted this in the old converter thread too since I don’t know if everyone frequents BOTH threads and so more people who have this converter and might be able to help me out will hopefully see this post)

Hi all

I REALLY need some input / information on the “Game Elements” PlayStation to GAMECUBE (or Wii) controller converter
(and if it works with the Sony made PS1 DIGITAL ONLY controller - the one with no rumble or analog sticks)

I read this in the first post of this thread:

“Game Elements (eBay): This is the converter I’ve happily used for years. It works great on the GameCube/Wii as well as the Xbox. ArcadeStickMonk used it as well.
Compatible with: PS2 DS, PS1 DS, PS1 Digital, SFAC 3.5V, HRAP 2 SA, MAS”

Questions

  1. Can you use the SONY MADE PS1 DIGITAL ONLY controller (no analog, no rumble) on a Gamecube / Wii with this converter without any problems?
(I know it’s listed as working, but I NEED confirmation of this from an actual person or 2 or 3 before I go blow $ on 4 of them

  2. Kyle, are you the one that has happily used it for years ;)? If it was someone else, who?

  3. Could someone please post a PIC (or link to a pic) of the Game Elements PS to Gamecube controller converter, so I know what it looks like?
(The link provided in the opening post goes to a ps2–> XBox section of a stepmania site

  4. Does it do PS to GC AND PS to XBox in the SAME converter or is that two separate converters? (PS to GC and PS to XBox)
(based on the above quote: “It works great on the Gamecube/Wii as well as on the Xbox.”

  5. I need impressions  (of PS–> GC conversion)

         - Is this converter reliable?

         - Anybody had any problems with it?

         - Good and bad impressions welcome! (if you loved it, hated it, or somewhere in between;)

I would REALLY appreciate answers to these questions, since I’ve always wanted to use the PS1 Digital-only controllers on the Gamecube, BUT the Cube Joybox converter I have doesn’t work at all with the PS1 Digital only controller. :frowning:

.

Yeah, it’s the one I shamelessly promote. I bought a pair of them back when the Xbox1 was a relatively new console and have used them since.

I’m not a heavy GameCube user (it’s not currently connected). My girl used to use it for Resident Evil 4 and had no trouble with it. I just picked up some Mario Party titles for GC and we’ll be using these for that as well.

Edit: I hooked it up and bummer. It works with a PS1 DS but not a digital pad. The digital pad does work on the Xbox. That’s lame. I’ll edit the OP to reflect this.

KYLE - (just one thing for you to check if you would be so kind

Kyle, ok so you tried a ps1 digital only controller on a Gamecube with the converter and it didn’t work at all, correct?

Did you check to make sure that your ps1 digital only controller is SONY MADE?
(It’s possible a third party digital only controller would not work, but a Sony made one would)

SO Could you please just make sure on the ps1 digital only controller that you used to test the converter that it says:

      - SONY above the Start / Select buttons AND
      - on the back of the controller it's labelled as model number: **SCPH-1080**? :)

That’s the model number for the Sony made ps1 digital only controller (I have a number of the sony made digital only ones, that’s why I wanted to know so bad

Thanks!

.

my ps1 namco stick works flawlessly with the cube joybox pro. i just wish that ssf2 on wii accepted “z” from the gamecube controller because the converter converts ps1/2 R2 (heavy punch on the namco) to z. =\

Question i have a radioshack ps2 to usb converter, anyone know if it has any lag issues?

Yeah, it did not work on the GameCube. It is definitely a first-party Sony Controller. I don’t use third-party controllers. What’s odd/sucks is that it works fine on the Xbox with the same converter. I didn’t expect that at all.

Just received this converter from Cablesforpc for my SFAC with an 8v PCB but for some reason it does not work. It registers the buttons but after a few seconds the stick stops responding. I know the stick works because I tested it on my PS2.

Does anyone have any idea on how to get the stick working with this converter?

I just tested my pelican adapter with: Namco PS1, and SFAC 3.5v after 2.76 update. No problems to report.

Any positive reports on using the Pelican with PS1 DS? Just wondering if it’s any different then using it with as PS2 DS.

EDIT: Thanks Kazujiro.
