I agree in AE with all the gouken buffs it prob would be overpowered lol but in Super … NAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW lol. AE? Yes lol. Capcom Needs to hurry and release AE on the real lol. Got so many things I wana try out. Im getting sick of super gouken I WANT AE GOUKEN NAOOOOOOOO lol.
In Vanilla Gouken was about 2 hit confirms away from being broken, especially vs. charge characters.
Charge characters got completely shut down once they were put in hard knock down state b/c you could safe jump them and the dive kick was an overhead attack. Which meant they’d need to lose their charge to block, if they reversaled they would be punished for trying it, or if they continued to block down/back they’d lose 1/2 of their energy bar.
Their only choice was really was to just block/tech or try to back dash out only to eat an os sweep to get put right back in the same bowl of shit.
Over powered as it was, I miss over head dive kick. I wish they would have give d+mk more hit stun to compensate for the high low mix up.
Overhead DF dive in AE would be soooooo stupid for charge characters LMAO.
really?? considering how slow his flip is i don’t see the problem…you can FA 2/3 of his flip attack options, Balrog & Chun both have specials that hit overhead, are much faster than Goukens flip kick & lead to nasty combos that deal pretty much the same damage
His flip maybe slow, but you shouldn’t be doing naked demon flips(I’m looking at you Takin :P) if you didn’t guess something in the first place. The strength of Goukens flip lies in his ability to pressure someone on wakeup, and in the old setups these options could be incredibly hard and needed very quickly as if you are knocked down and Goukens above you those 4 very different options you needed to stop.
OH Dive: Must be blocked standing or the big G gets a full combo on you, catches crouchers and allows OS vs backdashers, avoids/stuffs many reversals
Slide: Must be blocked crouching or you suffer another untechable knockdown, catches jumpers, backdashers(iirc)
Throw: Catches Standing or crouching, must jump or backdash to avoid, can usually be reversaled, but will result in untechable
Parry: Beats normals and non armour breaking specials allowing Gouken followup combos
An option needs to be selected in a very brief amount of time, far shorter than reacting to Chuns Hazanshu and with far more devastating consequences. If we still had that and ALL the AE buffs, I’d call every opponent done right then and there. I still remember how many people asked me back in Vanila:“Wait, that thing hits overhead?”
It was a really powerful tool and while I miss it, it leaving has allowed a lot more room for them to improve Gouken in pretty much every other area and I wouldn’t want to give any of it up in exchange for it.
Thank you Capcom, for that AE Gouken (now hurry up and release him on console so I can start rocking peoples world with him >:D )
Indeed. Almost all of my Gouken excitement has been put on the back burner b/c of AE,… just isn’t fun as it used to be especially when you KNOW there are a bunch of things you can do with Gouken that you just can’t do right now. Every time I land st. mp I’m like “FUCK!!! That should have been your ass homeboy!”
I know man, every non counterhit cl.MP, every rushed Tatsu turned low counter, every landed s.HP damage(well sad about that since vanilla change, but now get to look forward to that being only 5 less than vanilla in AE ) and possible times where I’m like I could really use the new LP Palm right about now.
Man all that and more, he can’t come soon enough
Now im saaaaddddd.
Why you sad man, Goukens golden age is a coming
YUP! Tatsu FADC!
as it stands right now people can just duck & avoid all of his flip options…the whole purpose of giving him a sweep & an overhead off the flip was so he could play that high low game. shit, at least EX should be overhead
as long as you duck & block Gouken has nothing & ends up at a disadvantage. & just cause the guys been knocked down doesn’t mean he can’t see the flip comin, it’s hella slow
it’s the same way to avoid Akuma’s flip shit, just duck & block, cept Akuma ends up with a huge advantage
Ducking doesn’t avoid the throw and it puts them in some nice block stun with the divekick. I’m always happy when they block the dive, can start frame trapping and tick throwing them and figure out if they do OS techs or not and punish accordingly.
It is slow and shouldn’t be done willy nilly, but on knockdowns, it is incredibly strong.
Also, you can’t just duck and block Akumas mixup, especially if you’re a large hitbox character.
Lol aint akumas palm option from demon flip not only armor break but an overhead lol. and safe on block. Akumas vortex is NOT to be fucked with …>_> I love using Ex tastu on them though.
But yea man … OH dive kick is gone. We aint getting it back.
Be careful with that EX Tatsu. I started messing around with Akuma so I could get better at the match up and I found this out.
There is a window he can use hammer fist and still safe jump the Tatsu. The tatsu will beat the grab, but the hammer fist set up will lead to a punish. If they flip late on your wake up, EX Tatsu away unless they did a mk or hk GF. You’ll either get stuffed or whiff if he does that.
It’s about 3 timings and 2 positions you need to watch out for when he does his DF.
These are all after LK DF, if he does mk DF you’ll whiff and get punished. Unless you are auto-correcting
Early on your wake up- He has to use Hammer Fist to do this. If he has super and does this, EX Flip or jump the hell out is your safest option, anything else will lead to a big ass combo or you’ll eat super. Worse case scenario you’ll eat a reset b/c you got hit in the air. The better parry in AE will help a lot here, b/c you are invincible for 25 frames and you can activate parry and land safely and/or possibly punish.
Ambiguous on your wake up- This is the toughest one. You have to guess if he’s grabbing or if he’s using palm. If he dives kick and you try to jump out from the grab you eat a big ass combo. Kongo and EX Tatsu beats dive kick and Grab though. This is a tough one.
Late- EX Tatsu that Fool! You can use lk tatsu too, it sometimes trades to Ultra or Tatsu.
I’m still trying to break his ambiguous window down, but Gouken just doesn’t have a good reversal to beat it. Ken or Ryu has that srk, but he has a timing to take that shit away too. Akuma is real.
Have you tried c.LK? It has had numeorus beneficial effects in my akuma matchups, but I’m still to test it vs the best Akumas though.
I am aware they can change up the demon flip and bait out the ex tastu. I dont use it all the time because of that but most akumas I fight in rank do generic vortexs lol. I have fought certian akuma players who got hit by it once and changed up and baited my shit out lol. Guess I got to be even more careful >_>.
I cannot wait to do quick recover from regular and ex gouken flips with parry in AE lol. Everytime I air parry something and I get hit i say"that wont happen in AE lol"
Capcom im sick of waiting!!
you can not grab all ducking opponents
Yes you can, some just need very specific timing. Catching some ducking opponents while they use a move that lowers their hitbox, now that one is true as I’ve whiffed on a lot of them. Just ducking will get caught though.
With the change in parry im pretty sure they don’t even have to fear our kongo anymore. Changes in spacing with flip dive kick beat will probably beat it easy.
We sacrificed what little wakeup game we had for a blockstring or two.
How is the change that detrimental to our wakeup? Knowing how to block is still our most important one:P I really try to stay away from wakeup counters as they can develop into a bad habit quickly with the amount of people online that make it work. Block and backdashing is very important and once you know they are option selecting your backdashes EX Flip is suddenly more viable(less so vs Cammy, damn spike active frames!). Its worse when they jump in(but meaty jumpins are one of the most important ones to learn to block due to OS), but if they were just standing next to you it’s still just 2 options
A blockstring or 2? We got that and a whole lot more from Capcom
