Agreed. Deej always seemed like the character that everyone liked but nobody played.

I dunno how much of a bandwagon effect there’ll be. I think people will always eventually use someone else, just like they did in SSF4. I’m sticking with him. But I’m just addicted to the sound effects. “Hey, hey! Hey, hey, HEY!”
I’m excited about the possibility of improved max out recovery leading to more corner combo possibilities both on regular and EX. With the improved upkick juggles leading to the corner, those will be more important to know. And I’m going to be in the lab when AE hits consoles trying to find new sobat FADC mixups.
Far MK was and still is garbage except off a random poke when you have no charge and weren’t trying to get charge. If in range I’m gonna be going to cr.mk instead for wakeup shennanigans. ESPECIALLY with a new and improved max out to play with.
I see how this gives me more options in a lot of the even matchups, but I cant’ see this making a ton of difference in the bad matchups. For instance, no idea how these buffs really help vs sim, rog, or dictator. Now, it may turn out that random sobat into FADC mixups makes a huge difference. Or that the recovery on max out makes it so you can bait and block in some of those matchups. If the slide is safer that may help too.

yeah, hopefully they’re true. I guess we’ll see what dev blogs have to say about DJ as well. Don’t go off too much with DJ when AE comes out so they don’t just nerf him back down with a patch. At least online or w/e.

Recovery on Air Slasher is one of the #1 things I felt he got jerked on. His lack of ability to do much good damage mid screen was another. What tune is changed? He’s not tourney solid NOW. These changes give him a chance to be (if they are all true).
I’m praying air slasher recovery will help w/ Guiles who know Deejay can’t win fireball wars and just spam Sonic boom to force a jump in or reaction so they can AA. If you can hold your ground maybe it will change the dynamic of the match up.
Dhalsim I see the same when he’s across full length across the screen, and trying to get a cheap teleport opportunity because he knows you can’t do much else but throw Slashers and be patient. Maybe the slide will play into it? At least you know now if and when you DO get in, you can make more of it.
Dictator think it will help for the simple fact that Deejay is able to do some significant damage WHEN he catches dictator slipping up. Instead of a combo ending in sobat, maybe sobat FADC -> a lil extra. Maybe the dash fix will make U2 more usable too.
Look at it this way… ANYTHING more is better for his bad match ups, because they are God awful to deal w/.
It’s just alittle hard to take you seriously when you were the front man for why Deejay isn’t tournament viable in one thread, and then not even a day after rumors of his buffs come out, you come right back in with the celebration. Don’t get me wrong, we all talked alittle shit, and I’m still too scrubby to get the job done with Deejay when I go to tournaments, but you got to understand why someone might just call you out, even if alittle bit. I think these buffs make him close to it, but I need to know if you can juggle into ultra and actually get my hands on him after the AE patch (It looks to be DLC btw.)
If these things all stand, then you’ve still got a character you can’t jump in on, be careless with, or disregard the high low games. I’ll make the arrogant claim that if you can MK or LK upkick juggle into ultra, Deejay is more then tournament viable, even if its only partial animation juggle like Dudley’s ultra setups.
I have been practicing my dash ultras with Guile lately and have got it down about 85% now. If this new dash buffering help happens like it should my DJ will suddenly become much more fierce. I really hope it’s true. The Sobat FADC combos being more practical will be great for pushing people into the corner and if the MK upkicks get buffed so they don’t get stuffed as often they’ll be godlike and getting people in the corner if you attach a HK upkick after. DJ’s doing to be great at controling space after this update if all goes to plan.

I get top 8 with deejay now consistently. These changes and the other characters changes could push me to top 4. Still need to learn some matchups.

I’ve beat good Adon’s online but i need some offline Adon’s to enter my scene.
At my tournaments the good players were just good and i lost. When it came to these matches in tournament i’ve won b/c the players just didn’t know the match up or i outplayed them.
In case you guys didn’t catch it on the front page story, next week we can confirm whether the rumors for DJ are true as they will finally give us the DJ changes in the developer blog.
EDIT: didn’t realize this was already in the general discussion thread so i guess let me contribute something more here.
JCool, are there anything specific in those matchups you struggle with or is it just a general “what the hell should i be doing” kind of confusion.

So will the extra active frames on slide finally let me punish empty jumpers?
I know it’s doable now, but you gotta time it earlier and closer than if they did a jumping attack. And even then it’s still sketchy.
I’m so glad for all these buffs if they are true. Looks like I came back to DJ at the right time. I picked him up when the game launched and then got frustrated and quit him when he just wasn’t getting the job done. I switched to T.Hawk. Last month I picked up Dee Jay again and I’ve been having fun. Not sure what my problem was back when the game released.
Overall I’m happy with the AE changes to my characters. Sounds like T.Hawk and Dee Jay got a lot of good buffs. Although it sounds like they took away some of Vega’s good stuff. But hey, two out of three ain’t bad.
