the problem is ryu and ken have to work for their shit while honda has only slight difficulties with fireballers but destroys everyone else, hawk cammy and fei inparticular. honda is a really really shitty design. ryu may have an easier time against honda but theres NO matchup in the game where all ryu has to do is hold back to win. fuck is there any other character that can say they have a matchup like that?
I hate to chime in on the bandwagon, but:
Fei/Cammy/Hawk vs. Honda = needs fixing.
I don’t want to hear anyone say ‘up your game’ or any other such nonsense. I will admit that I enjoy playing games to see if there are ways to take these horrible matchups and do something about them - find some hole. Some weakness. I haven’t been able to.
Neither have other players, who are much more skilled and much more adept at this game than I am.
As much as I enjoy psychic flame kicks and cannon spikes, such are comprised of elements outside of the fighting engine itself. Is outhinking your opponent a part of the game? Yes. But even more core is the ability of that game to present, skill being equal, characters who do not need to rely on tricks, skulduggery, etc.
Before people start saying that I should watch more videos or something, that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the legions of people who play this online; those who main fei/cammy/hawk and when faced with an equal (or greater) opponent have no way to up their game, to get better. There is a terminal point in this sort of unequivalence, and the only way out is to counter-choose. I suppose the same argument could be made about most ppl vs. Akuma, too.
Sirlin / Patch Team might see this thread. They might not care. I hope they do. The entire goal of HDR was reintroduce people to fighting games. To reenergize them. To that end, the best product available must be made possible, lest the game actually starts throwing people in the opposite direction. I say this humbly, but directly:
Fix that tubby bastard. And the one with red hair. Let those of who are crawling out of the woodwork for the first time in years actually have a reason to buy rediculously priced sticks, and find reasons to travel to play. Show us that there is not only quality competition, but that there are quality production values. We respect the game and the efforts put forth by your combined endeavors (Sirlin/Capcom/S-Kill/Etc); please show us that you return the feelings.
Namaste.
This hurts somehow…
As a Vega player, I was under the impression that sumo guy was one of handsome spaniards’s worst matchups…
Here’s a good Claw vs Kusumondo:

^ thanks for the most boring match ever.
There is no way that the Honda, Claw matchup is any longer even, when Honda has remained essentially the same, and Claw has lost major damage potential from knockdown walldive shenanigans.
Yeah I’d say it’s a slight advantage for Honda now, no big deal though. Nos99, that’s a very well representative match for the Honda-Claw matchup. In my opinion it’s the stupidest non-mirror match in ST.
Make Hondas handslaps like cvs2 lol
this is what we get for having barely any testing online to try to find bugs. you can tell it wasnt tested online much cuz all these bugs were experienced the first day the game came out.
I was under the impression that they had a beta. Unless you mean PS3 only ‘bugs’ like trophies, met players etc
the beta consisted of 2 characters and were only left to the few who purchased bionic man or watever it was called to “test” it.
Stuff I’d like to see:
-On Round 2, make the “speed up music” only play when the opponent that lost the first round has low health. It just doesn’t sound right when it play when the player that won the first round was going to lose the second round. I mean, they did this on HSF2.
-I’d still like to see an option on training mode to turn off dizzy.
Watching Honda win with little effort would be a whole lot more boring.
Nope, just saw the video and it was pretty damn boring. I understand the mind games going on there but that’s what happens anytime both players play ultra-safe.
Commando 3: Wolf of the Battlefield.
I agree, I think that’s what bugs me most about this game. Someone doesn’t deserve to win a whole round just because they hit you with 2 fierce or roundhouse in a row. It adds randomness to a very competitive game.
Claw’s dive doesn’t knock down anymore.
Claw can’t store flip kicks walking backward anymore.
Honda has easier HHS input.
Honda’s super is greatly improved.
Adding to this, while playing online (the most common way) I find it much more difficult to fine-control dives, and I still haven’t been able to flip kick on reaction to hit a headbutt. I didn’t play ST, but if people say it was close between the two characters at high levels I believe it. I don’t think it’s close after the HDR changes, though. I also think that online play makes it much worse, and that mid-level Claws have little chance against a Honda that’s simply spamming HHS and headbutts. Ochios, stored or not, don’t even need to be used online against most Claws.
Why? Because the claw player will be disconnected for choosing claw?
I rarely run into lag in that game.
Yeah it was even before, but now it’s definitely in Honda’s favor. Pretty stupid that Honda’s mere existence in the game makes half the cast worse and in some cases not really worth maining when you take counter matches into account. Of course, the half of the cast he makes worse are the characters that already were on the low tier side of the equation to begin with (non fireball characters). He just makes them that much more frustrating to play. Like James said before I wouldn’t really mind Honda so much if the other characters (the bottom 3) were beefed up to his level or were at least comparable.
Hey, good news about the patch! Well, not news, but I was reading one of the the SF4 stickies and it claims that there are a host of improvements (from HDR) to the online options. This *could * point to similar improvements in HDR.
From the initial post:
None of that will be implemented. I guaran-damn-tee this will be a bare bones patch with not even all of the bonafide glitches being addressed. The only things we can be maybe 80% sure they will fix is the walk forward with charge glitch. Maybe if we’re lucky they’ll fix akuma’s demon glitch and if we’re extremely, utterly lucky they’ll tone him down a tiny, insignificant bit.
