Conan O' Brien announces new show title, Nov. 8 (vid inside)

ay what channel is this on in canada?

Yeah im tired of fucking interviews. An all skit conan show would be tight

In Canada it’s on the Comedy network at midnight. John door was on the show tonight, he was good.

I like the interviews most of the time, they were funny tonight, and the mom from modern family :looney::lovin:

The censor guy skit on Tuesday was absolutely brilliant. I haven’t laughed that hard at anything Conan-related since the feud with the Mayor of NJ, or the skit about NBC as the pimp and Conan as the hoe. Just watching Conan get the approval for the wardrobe change was nothing short of pure, hilarious brilliance. I have no idea how the censor guy stayed so calm, because I was dying of laughter at that point.

She had top tier legs there!

I kinda wondering if andy picked that shirt on purpose, but it looked to random and they seemed to even be laughing off their dumbassery for wardrobe selection at that point, lol. Either way I think it worked to their benefit.

Kanye was lol. OKAY LETS JUST PUT HIM DOWN THERE AND CONTINUE THE MONOLOGUE.

Hoarder chick was pretty scary…

Ok, so it’s time for my recap.

If anybody remembers it from the old thread, I actually went and saw Conan O’Brien at the tonight show twice, and I wrote up a detailed summary of how it went and what to expect for people who wanted to go themselves, or just have an idea of the “behind the scenes.” Heres the old post

So this time, it was actually a bit different. He’s on a whole new lot, the Warner Bros. Lot as opposed to the Universal Lot, but funnily enough if you look at the two addresses on a map it’s like maybe a mile apart. So he didn’t move that far at all.

Parking for the show takes place in a Parking garage across the street from the studio, and it’s actually free unlike Universal where you had to pay (but got partial validation from your Conan ticket).

So the first thing I notice is that instead of lining up and waiting to be checked in, their system is different. Before, at the tonight show, you stood around and waiting in line, eventually somebody came along and went down the line and you checked in, got your wristband and ticket, then could immediately get in the “real line” to go into the studio. If you arrived early, and checked in, you could get your wristband and leave and come back, but you’d be back in the line. This meant people who were hardcore enough to show up early, get their wristband, and jump into line immediately would get the better seats (maybe 4 hours or so to get the front). A lot of people would leave and come back, which meant I could get good seats easier. This time, it’s a fairer system I would say. You check in immediately in an audience holding area (after going through a metal detector), and you are assigned a number for your group. This number denotes your place in line for the entire day. This means you can show up early, get your number, then leave and have a good 2-3 hours to do whatever (watch a movie, get some lunch, go on the Studio Tour) and come back and still have an awesome place in line. I got number 14.

Heres me with my ticket and number: Twitpic - Share photos on Twitter

The number thing threw me off, so since we had 3 hours to kill before we had to be back (be back at 3 for going in), we decided to roam the streets looking for a starbucks. Stupid google navigator kept telling me to go to a starbucks on the lot, which was gated and they wouldn’t let us in, so that was quite a fun time. Eventually found one where you can go on the VIP tour but it took an hour to walk there and maybe an hour to walk back haha.

You know those 2 kids that Conan hugged on wednesday? The ones where the other dude snuck in on him and Conan made fun of it? Those bastards got special treatment, one of their dads worked somewhere on the lot, and even though it seemed like they got there barely in front of us ( I saw them in the checkin area) they got handed number 1 by one of their friends doing the check in. Then they had visitor passes so they could go through the gate and wander the lot, which is what confused me when I tried the same thing and was told I couldnt go (I didn’t find out about the parent thing until later).

Anyhow, 3 hours later I came back and at 3:00 they started calling the numbers out, when they called your number you had to come up to the front and get into line, then they took like 10 groups at a time and walked you into the studio, and into what was basically a theme park line. We waiting there until everyone was corraled, then we were walked into the theater a few groups at a time. This walk was not for the faint hearted, especially after we already had taken a 2 hour walk earlier. Not like it’s a problem for anybody remotely healthy, but for somebody older this walk is through the entire backlot a long way. You get to see lots of cool studios (Big Bang theory, and you can see certain actors parking spaces marked with their cars in it) and sets, which made the walk cool. You finally arrive at the stage, and go up through the back, and there it is, the magnificent Studio 15.

(This is where I would have a cool picture to show you, if they didn’t make us keep our phones put away. People who snuck pictures actually had to have the staff come over and delete the phonos or get kicked out!)

The stage is awesome, it looks cool. It actually looks bigger than his old Tonight show stage (well the stage is bigger, the audience looks smaller, it doesnt go up as high so all the seats are good). This is where we kind of got screwed, we were the last 4 to go in with the first group and when we got there they had just finished filling up the first section that sits right next to Andy, and then there was us. They were like hmm where do we sit these people. Instead of sitting us in the front row on the opposite side in front of the band, they put us in the first row behind that section. The upside is the seats were great and we weren’t blocked by camera men the whole time, the downside is we don’t get to see ourselves on TV (well, we saw ourselves but it’s not like you’d know it was us unless you knew ahead of time) as opposed to the last 2 times I went and got shown on TV pretty clearly. I was even wearing my white “I’m with Coco” shirt, which nobody else had, everyone had black “Team Coco” shirts on.

The show itself is aweseme as always, stand up comedian comes out and warms you up (same guy from the Tonight Show), Andy comes out and thanks you for being there, then they start the show. When Conan comes out the whole place erupts, I gave Conan the Tom Hanks “Co Co” Hand gesture and got a quizzical look for a second. The show still tapes the same way, all the way through with real breaks the same length as commercials. They shot a promo in the middle of the show (before the band) which was a bit different but the band needed time to set up.

Cool things about the stage: The moon really is remote controlled by the same remote that Conan showed that first night. I thought that was just a gag prop, but nope it really does. After the monologue some guy comes out and sets the moon up for the interview, he has a strict measuring distance where he got a yardstick out and made sure it was lined up with a mark on the set at the right height, and he adjusts it with that hugely silly looking remote control! Now the really cool part that isn’t even highlighted on his show at all, the stage part where Conan sits with the desk? After the monologue, the entire thing SLIDES OUT to give them more space. It was freaking ridiculous! If you watch his monologue again, notice how far back his desk is in comparison with the walls on the stage. When he does his interviews, look how much further out it is. Thats really cool.

After the show, they tell you that you can leave, or wait for a tram to take you to the gift shop. I wanted some coco merchandise, so I waited to be trammed around the lot. Lo and behold, there was not a single piece of fucking Conan merchandise in that store. I was actually kind of upset, I wanted a Conan coffee mug or a shirt to remember the day. What kind of idiot doesn’t have the shirts for sale? His entire staff of workers had the new Conan shirt, so it’s not like they don’t have the merchandise ready to go. Bastards.

The benefit of going on the tram to the store is when its time to go, they pick you up in the tram and drop you off close to the front so you don’t have to hoof it again. But the store, at least as of now, just has generic WB stuff.

So that was my basic trip. I did see some of his stage managers and stuff that appear in his skits (like the little indian/black? guy who I can’t remember his name, looks almost like a walking skeleton) on the sidelines just working.

But this is the part that completely blew my mind, and worried me. While all this is going on, Lopez is also taping on the same lot. His audience lines up one floor above Conan, and its all in a very similar manner. When we sat down, we had a single empty seat between us and some reserved seats (for some WB execs and agents). This girl was brought to sit in it right before the show started. Turns out she went to go see Lopez, and they were too full to accommodate her, so they sent their extra people over to see Conan instead. This completely fucking blew my mind. Seriously? Lopez is supposed to be a joke of late night, when we were walking around we spent the whole day making fun of him and his audience (there was a lunch truck outside the parking garage, to which my Brother quipped “Look it’s lopez’s other job!”), and it turns out he gets more people than Conan for a taping. Hopefully it’s not a sign of Conan not having the drawing power, and rather a combo of people actually knowing to get tickets (I got mine 2 months in advance or so, as soon as they were announced, while Lopez has been on for awhile and people can just be reminded to get them) and his studio just being smaller and having less seats. Or, as my brother put it, “Well his audience seats 300 but 250 are his family members.”

So support Coco, and if you’re in the area grab tickets and go.

Pimp Willy man sounded fun thanks for the read!

Don’t know how true this is but on Lopez last night he showed in his audience a big section of people who tried to get into Conan’s show but they ran out of space, so they wound up in his show. He did a bunch of jokes comparing Conan fans to Lopez fans. He said stuff like “Conan fans post stuff on Twitter and Facebook while Lopez fans hit twits in the face with books.” :looney:

Hah, well I don’t watch Lopez so thanks for the info. Guess it’s just a day to day type thing then where sometimes people don’t show up for Conan who had tickets, and vice versa for Lopez. Makes me feel better!

LMAO Everyone on the show pretty much tore Michael Cera a new one last night.

Just watched the replay on the website. God damn, Andy. That was some hilarious fail with that shirt. NEWS GHOST!

Also, no show on Friday? Site says the week wrapped up on Thursday, commercials say he’s back Monday, so WTF? That be some super-lame.

TBS only does 4 shows a week

Harland Williams on Conan tonight…DAMN! what a show!
