Computer Help Thread v4.0

Your video card is better than a 9800 pro. Processor speed shouldn’t be a problem.

Ah! I won’t lie. I don’t know much about computers. I just assumed since the numbers were higher, that the 9800 was better. Noobish I know, but that’s why I asked here. Thanks for the speedy reply.

I forgot to mention system restore did not solve the problem. Yes, explorer will not come out to play. I’m most concerned with losing any files with the upgrade/repair. I know I shouldn’t lose anything but there is still an error listed for it on the MS website. Not having a task bar will make backing up my files a real pain in the ass.

Does anyone know if desktop icons or IE and Firefox favorites change after an upgrade/repair install?

I’m about to RMA a Sapphire card with their lifetime warranty. Pretty painless, but I am curious about the upgrade program. I remember that ATI had an upgrade program back in the day, but I never took advantage of it either. Details?

Use Task Manager’s “Run” option.

So you see Explorer blip on and then blip off in the Processes tab when you try to start it manually?

In Event Viewer are you getting any crash events for this?

Maybe it’s Evil Explorer screwing up an injection attempt.

There are no crash errors in the event viewer. There are no errors at all around the time I installed the updates on Friday. I just noticed that if I open any folder through the run prompt, explorer.exe will show in the processes… and will go away when I close the folder.

Is there any free programs for Malware…

You can try spybot
http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
Or ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

They both have free applications

You could also try the free AVG anti virus/spyware
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0

If anything these programs can atleast tell you what the malware is and you can look online for a particular fix.

Good luck.

If those don’t work, I think I have access to a few free subscriptions through the Geek Squad forums. I’ll say one thing, working for Best Buy gives you access to some pretty rediculous accomidations.

^hey i work at geeksquad. i also suggest kaspersky. it’s $20 at bb right now.

thanks for the reply…

I don’t know if it Windows Media Player, when I upload my CD’s…It taken like 30 mins to upload the CD…The CD is scratch free I just bought it on Friday…Is the Lens dirty

That probably indicates either that you’re in Analog ripping mode (WMP’s tools:Options:devices) or that you’re getting REALLY dirty reads from the drive. Should work fine on a different/working drive. =P

Hey does anyone here have a problem with Macs not detecing a USB external hard drive? It seems like it’s not even enumeratiing. Anyone?

I just checked it, it’s in Digital Mode…I set it at 4X, see if it goes faster…thanks

Hey all. I am planning to gut my PC in a few days and I need some help. I am getting pretty much a new PC and the only things I am keeping are the Hard Drives, DVD burner, and physical case. What I am wondering is how do I remove the old drivers for the motherboard and replace them with the new stuff? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there a way to add partitions to an already formatted HD?

Lifehacker.com to the rescue.

How do you remove the drives or drivers? Because if you’re asking how to keep your drivers, Lifehacker’s got a link to a free utility that can save all of them (click). Now for adding partitions to an already formatted HD? I use GParted. It’s Linux-based, but it makes an empty partition non-formatted that you can just format once you get back into Windows using the Disk Management (click).

I am worried about my old motherboard drivers mucking up operations with my new motherboard if that helps any

Same message except filename (fyxqzofg.dll)

Same message except filename (bmlonaro.dll)

RUNDLL

Doesn’t that really look like your system has been taken over by malware?
The answer to that question is YES.
The answer to your next question is don’t post your email address on the Internet randomly.
