Computer Help Thread v4.0

Have you tried VLC player?

Yeah I did but it doesn’t open the files.

uhm, MPC has a soft sub option, which seems to be the case here. I think it’s under video then subtitle, or maybe even audio. I haven’t used MPC for awhile as VLC’s been pretty good to me.

uTorrent help. I get that little red icon that says I have a router/firewall blocking shit. Its not the firewall, but I believe its the port since its not forwarded. I tried PortForward, but I am so lost. I’m tired of having over a 1000+ seeds and I can only connect to 16 and getting a 24kb/s downloads on 5 GB+ stuff.

Anyone can help me(step by step would be greatly appreciated)?

Thanks in advance

Media player classic supports subtitles.

View -> Options -> Playback -> Output -> Direct Show Video -> VMR7 (renderless) or VMR9 (renderless).

Oh, and right click on screen -> Navigate -> Subtitle Language. Enable subtitles, and choose the language.

You can also download alternate subtitle formats for your media if you cannot open the current subtitle.

What kind of router do you have?

LINKSYS WR45TG

I went through the PortForward guide several times; still says the port isn’t open

What you are going to have to do is limit the amout of dynamic IP’s the router will give your PC’s.

Under the basic setup you will find something “number of addresses”. In there you can limit it to 10 or less. This way you aren’t getting an IP from a list of 100. After that you will define the range. For example 192.168.1.600 - 192.168.1.610

then under applications and gaming you will define what ports are forwarded for each IP in your range. this way you will know what port to change utorrents default port to in conjunction with the IP your PC was given by the router.

After that you should be good.

By “number of addresses”, do you mean " Maximum Number of DHCP Users:"? Any by range do you mean “Static DNS”? Because that’s all I’m seeing on this Basic Setup tab.

I already tried that stuff and it still doesn’t work. When I go to navigate, all the options are blurred out. It shows the subtitles but its in Japanese but I couldn’t figure out how to change the language. Where can I download alternate subtitle formats?

Do you have directvobsub? It should be a small green arrow pointing up in your system tray when playing these files…

Double click to open it. Go to paths and add a new subtitle directory that the file in question will use. You could just replace the old subtitles with newer ones.

Also be sure that the show subtitle option is check marked in directvosub. (right click when it’s in the system tray)

As for downloading other subs just type it into google ie: Naruto 123 subtitles

Also found a potential solution on another site -

"Three swparate ways to have subs in .rm(vb) files:
NOTE: all require Real Alternativ
IMPORTANT: before installing RealAlt you MUST uninstall Real Player (will not work anyway)
NOTE2: Subtitles file has name exact as movie, extension is appropriate for subtitles format.

  1. open file in player supporting subs (Bestplayer etc.)
  2. Media Player Classic:
Options > Playback > Real Media Video > (choose) DirectX 7/9
    Can now (auto)load subtitles
  3. Installed DirectVobSub: just change extension from .rm(vb) to .avi (not convert, just change filename), DVobSub will load subtitles automatically.

3rd way is the only that works in Windows Media Player."

I have directvobsub, but when I play the files the small green arrow you mention doesn’t show up.

I saw that solution on a site as well, I tried it but I’m having problems changing the file extension in Vista.

Edit: Just figured out how to change the file extension.

What is preventing you from changing the extension?

  1. Open a folder or open explorer
  2. Click the Layout button (to the left of the Views button) as shown in the picture below
  3. Click Folder Options
  4. Click the View tab
  5. Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
  6. Click OK

I already figured it out, I couldn’t find that folder options. I just need to look for the english subtitles for when they cry but I’m having no luck. Thanks for helping me shin.

Edit- I fixed the Problem by restoring the router to its original settings

I don’t know much at all about video cards.
Any good PCI-E video card recommendations from newegg.com?
Gonna use it mainly for WoW and general video watching.
Will a 512MB one be good enough to play WoW at it’s max/almost max settings without any problems?
Looking for a cheap/decent price one too btw.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help.

As far as I remember, WoW is very friendly across a lot of graphics cards. I’ve ran it on very low end onboard video cards and I’ve ran it on a passively cooled 256mb ATI 1300 and it ran well on them both. Now I have a 512 1650XT and I have to admit that it is a very capable card, although I could easily do better. I play Oblivion on it with pretty much everything at max with 2X anti aliasing. I can play it on 6X AA and raise the clipping plane to full with full shadows, but it gets choppy during fights. Pretty good for such a cheap card. I would suggest to go with a 2600XT, for around 100$ Compare them and select one that you like. Don’t fret over whether or not it’s 512 or 256 MB because you won’t see a difference on WoW or playing movies.

WoW is very easy on graphics cards. Most laptops can play it with the generic intel brand one. It’s nothing special at all

The 8600gt is worth the extra $20, but either one will get the job done.

Thanks for the help and info guys!
Yeah, was messing around with WoW’s video settings again and overall, doesn’t seem like I’m getting a video card very soon.
Everything seems to be running pretty smooth. As long as I keep the settings kinda low.
Will probably wait til I have extra spare money to get one. Not in such a rush now.
