Computer Help Thread v4.0

buy spysweeper with antivirus. problem solved HOWEVER, you r more than likely going to have to contact their tech support if it’s unable to quarantine & repair/kill whatever crap you got but the majority of the time the program itself will eradicate such issue. The only other think i’d suggest regarding this program is to turn off windows system restore temporarily while you run this in safe mode 3 times, each time emptying the quarantine file. once done reboot back into normal mode & possibly 1) either do a non destructive restore or b)back up your stuff & start from scratch literally (that’s the best way to go; destructive restore)

The problem is, unfortunately, you purchased a piece of shit router, hands down.

unless you use this router as a vpn then ok, netgear is alright however for your consoles & computer. you made a bad choice Im sorry.

Stick to d-link and you’re problem will be solved:wasted:

Thanks. You’re right, the router is in his room. Does his wired setup mean that the speed of his connection is unaffected by wireless devices? When we used to have a LAN setup (ethernet cables connecting everything), he would bitch about how downloading things on other computers would lag his Xbox Live games. I never hear that complaint anymore. Is he rigging the house’s network or something?

Whuts up ppl. I just completely restored my pc and I had to get some drivers over again. I have a digital camera thats puts its data on a sandisk just like this one http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1082)-SDSDB-1024-A10-SanDisk_Standard_SD_Card_1GB.aspx

I have a Gateway Pc with windows Xp. I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a sandisk driver.

You don’t need drivers for most (if not all) flash card readers.

Interesting everytime I put the sandisk in nothing happens maybe a defect sandisk? The data shows up on the digital camera i just cant get my pc to read it

Ok. I have a problem. My comp will not power up so I borrowed another one and put in the old hard drive. Everytime I try to boot up it gets to detecting the old HD and then just gets stuck. I went into the setup menu and tried to get it to automatically look at the HD but that freezes it as well. I tried to put it as the secondary master too. The PC boots up the HD that it came with so I am wondering if my HD is dead or if it is just incompatable.

Try this guide: http://www.pcuser.com.au/pcuser/hs2.nsf/lookup+1/F7134141F921B4E0CA256AE6002D0054

Go look for a program called Hijackthis. I haven’t used it in a long long long long time, but I think it’s still being updated. If it is, (check to make sure that there is a reasonably current version for your version of Windows before downloading) download it and post the log it creates here.

Try formatting it. If you have internal memory on your camera don’t forget to back up your pictures there first.

Restate the problem, please. Does your PC get power or does it simply not boot up into Windows? How far does it get before it just gets stuck?

~ EDIT!! ~ After reading the last response to your post… I would definitely consider doing more research before you put your hard drive in the freezer or soundly bang on it. Seems like good advice if you’re 100% sure that your drive is stuck, but if not it seems like a very good way to void whatever warranty you may have. There is a better solution, and it starts with trying out the drives individually to make sure that it’s not your IDE/SATA controllers on the motherboard or if there is some flaky firmware or BIOS corruption going on. Do that first and post the results.

Random tidbits: hard drive read/write heads float less than half the width of a human hair away from the platter and even something as thin as a finger print on the surface of the platter can cause the head to get stuck. Also, any jolt will likely result in contact between the head and the platter rendering the drive inoperable. This is especially true if the drive is in operation while the jolt occurs (imagine an airplane crashing nose first into soft dirt)

Run it in safe mode.

Actually run all your antivirus/spyware/malware/trojan programs in safe mode.

Also what site did it change your homepage to. If I can identify the trojan I may be able to find a removal tool for it.

how do i check my pc power supply?

What do you mean?

like how many watts it outputs. i’m installing a video card and its says 325W recommended.

Check on the side of your ps case or look it up online. What brand?

What video card is it and what system do you have?

i’m going to install a geforce 8600gt. i just brought it online. its the recommended card on my budget which is $125. the minimum power required is 300W according to nvidia’s website but according to other websites its 325-350W so i don’t really know what to say.

I just checked my pc’s power rate online and its 305W. think the card will run?

hey guys quick question

MY laptop runs fine, except when i try to save images. Afteri right click(in firefox) to bring up the save image “window”, it freezes for like 1-2 minutes(but i still can move the mouse).
Then afterwards, i click “Save”, and it freezes for 1-2 minutes then its ok.
This happens wi/all types of images, jpg, gif etc.
Ive run adaware, spybot, avg. No change
It also happens in Internet explorer too.
IT only started like 2 months ago…

my laptop is Dell 1.6 gig pentium m running windows XP
1 gig ram
128 mb ATI radeon video card

thanks for any help

sounds like your hard drive needs to be defragmented a LOT…

get at me on AIM, and i’ll set you up.

thetempestsonata

… I asked you what system you have. As in, what are the components?

thanks a lot for the help, Mixah!

I defragged , rebooted. and tried again. It freezes for just 2-3 seconds still.
If I were delete some stuff from my Hdisk and get it to 10 free gigs and then run PErfect disk, it would probably stop i guess
