Computer Help Thread v4.0

It must not be if plugging in all these devices is causing overloads and problems.

Could it have something to do with using a multi-plug surge protector? I have all the PC-related deviced plugged into it, along with a portable heater to keep my room warm. Could that be sucking power away from the PC?

no.

put it this way…

i have a coolermaster 550 true power whatever… it comes with a front panel that lets me know how much power im’ using…

i have…

2 sata hard drives
2 optical drives
printer, usb mouse, usb keyboard, usb card reader, psx controller, bluetooth adapter in the back…
in the front, i keep another PSX pad that will go in and out, depending… jump drives, external enclosures, and other devices… but i never have any conflicts.
overclocked E4300 processor
overclocked GeForce 7800GT

keep in mind that overclocking takes a lot more power…

130 watts average load… 160 peak…
average lightbulb is 100…
19" lcd monitor is 70
19" crt monitor is 180

my stereo is 300 watts… so putting that into perspective, i highly doubt it’s anything but your motherboard just being crappy… if it’s a dell or something, they typically give you more usb ports than you can actually use.

EDIT:
try this:

I can’t afford a new power supply at this time since I’m low on cash. And no, my system is not a Dell, it’s a custom system I put together myself. I’d link to the sites of where I got the parts from, but I can’t do that right now.

This is my 2nd custom-built system. First one built about 3 years ago. The parts are exactly the same as the first one. My shit job didn’t pay enough to get better parts (total cost of MB + CPU + case = $150 compared to $600 back then). Difference was this time around I had learned how to properly put it together. I fucked up the last one and it constantly had problems recognizing the memory stick until it finally blew out.

The MB being shitty could have something to do with it. It’s the exact same design as the last one, but made by a different manufacturer.

i got suspended from some forum that i posted the lemonparty link… which was my fault. but the suspension was over n i got to post stuff again. today i log on, it say i got suspended again which i dunno what i did. i dont think i did anything wrong after my suspension. i think the mods are being dicks and abusing their power.

are there any ways for me to register on a forum or change my ip or something? i see so many ppl just reigister back on a forum as soon as they’re ban or suspended.

Wouldn’t trying to not be a douchebag and posting shit like that in the first place have been easier?

I’m probably gonna get neg repped for this because I’m sure it’s on here some where already.
I’ve used emulators before but not mame. How the fuck do I get it to work? I unzipped it and its just a bunch of files and no program that I can see

Nevermind I found it. sorry

A quickie… Is it possible to open multiple windows for Windows Picture and Fax Viewer? I really hate not being able to keep more than one image open at once. I googled first and no sources mention anything other than the obvious toolbar stuff. I’m using Windows XP.

Thanks.

open the image you want to open

click print

then switch to the directory your files again

click a different image

bam

two picture viewers

your porn satisfaction rate just doubled

do you know which media player plays MKV files? I have VLC but I only get sound for a couple of seconds then it crashes. can anyone recommend a MKV player or some codec for it

thanks

Download “K-Lite Codec Pack” (FULL VERSION) here,

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

After you download, install the software and use the media player called
"Media Player Classic" which was included in the package.

After that, to play them properly:

Open up Media Player Classic
-Go to VIEW >OPTIONS> EXTERNAL FILTERS and set
CoreAAC Audio Decoder
CoreAVC Video Decoder
CoreVoRbis Audio Decoder to prefer!

If you don’t see these three there, press “Add filter” and look for these three then set them to prefer.

the video still plays but its only missing the CoreAAC Audio Decoder. but it still has sound

thanks a lots dude

help firefox wont play dixv files. like tvlinks type of sites.

So today I went to Radioshack and got a 2 jack splitter to add 2 smaller speakers I’ve had in my house. The splitter works fine, but the original speakers I’ve been using have a huge reduction in volume when I plug in the other speakers into the splitter. It’s not as bad when I put in headphones, but it still happens.

Is there any way for that not to happen? If not that, is it possible to increase the volume overall for everything?

Well if you don’t want to turn up the volume on your amp, try adding one resistor in series with each of the new speakers. Fuck me if I know what values to use though. If you decrease the current of that parallel branch more power should go to the original speakers.

How would I go about doing the first one? (using a laptop if that’s relevant info)

Not sure what resistors are. :bluu: Though when I try the same thing with my Ipod shuffle, there isn’t such a significant change to the speakers. Thank you for the quick reply as well.

What do you “add” the speakers to? I assume the source is a laptop or Shuffle. What is the splitter plugged into?

Actually I add the splitter into the shuffle or laptop then add each set of speakers.

The speakers are self-powered, I assume? Meaning you have to plug them into a wall outlet?

One set is plugged into an outlet. The other I use as if they were headphones, doesn’t require any power source.

so whats the deal with the firefox not playing divx?
