Computer Help Thread v4.0

I had the same issue. the power button is dead. tell creative. they’re really good about their warrenties… i’ve even gotten free upgrades.

DAmn that’s no good. At least they are good with the warranties. Thanks for the heads up, Mixah, Wanderer.

yeah dude. last time my zen broke, they upped me for free from a 5GB to a 6. Another time, I had a busted sound blaster 5.1, and they sent me an audigy 7.1 card to replace it… lastly, my stone’s power button broke, and they sent me the replacement with noise cancelling headphones.

they even warranty their replacements. the first zen i had, i dropped in the wet grass, and it stopped working. sent it back, they replaced the screen. this was about 8 months after the purchase. the replacement just died about 10 months after it was replaced, and they upgraded me for it.

creative is awesome for customer support. their products don’t always win the prize, but they’re up there.

have a nice day.

I don’t help people who don’t help themselves.

thanks for the awesome advice. unfortunately, the process failed at motherboard check, so i know that’s ead. not the dilemma is making sure my processor is still good, and thencontemplating whether it’s worthwhile to get a new socket 939 board this late in the game. if not, then i’ll need new ram and processor as well. sigh

whats best…

IPOD/zenstone/mp3/ etc…

look like my zenstone deadd… so gay. dont got the receipt n shit. ima buy something new and i wanna know whats best and last long n shit. i want something where i dont gotta update shit n just listen to music :annoy:

Since when did it become taboo to type legibly?

Does anyone know if the ATI theatre 550 chipset will work with Blaze Media Pro? I get a blank screen on the preview but with power cinema, things work just fine.

I am in a monitor CRISIS!!

I leave home in the morning, come back late at nite, turn on my computer, and my screen display has black bars at the top and bottom!! my display is this squished in between the bars (nothing is blocked out)

I tried to change the resolution and I forgot what my native resolution was so the screen went blank and displayed “out of range.” In panic I powered my computer off only to turn it back on and still get that message upon startup of windows, thus rendering my computer unusable.

lucky I got my old CRT monitor, and thru lots of pain and troubleshooting I finally got display back into my LCD.

unfortunately now I cannot set to the proper resolution!!

The screen is supposed to run at 1440x900 (it’s widescreen) but I no longer have that option! I have tried updating the drivers, downgrading them, etc but I just cannot get it right!

right now all my available resolution options still think I have a standard size monitor hooked up which I do not!! It is really hurting my eyes to use a computer with a stretched out display… any help please???

^ Click the Advanced button and go to the Monitor tab and uncheck the box that says “Hide modes that this monitor cannot display.”

And next time don’t power off your PC when you throw your monitor out of scan range. It will automatically go back to the previous resolution if you don’t click “yes” after 12 seconds.

I think that’s what happened. I moved both the controller and headphones to the back and plugged them in the MB-mounted plugs, and it was still acting up. I then unplugged my printer and the reciever for my handheld AIM device, and now everything’s working.

thanx homie, but it didnt work

and word to that 12 second law… but like I said I panicked when I first saw the message and ended up fucking something up…

I was able to change my resolution to 1280768 at 60hz, the aspect ration is 1.66… as opposed to 1.6 like 1440900.

so… it’s good enough but I still wanna go back :arazz: :arazz:

I dont even kno why this happen to begin with??

handheld aim device?

two questions:

  1. what are you talking about? i’m interested in it…
  2. if it NEEDS power, and you’re plugging it into a 1.1 port, then there’s your problem.
  1. This. It’s a wireless instant messenger device. The reciever plugs in via USB to send and recieve the signals from it. Got it for my birthday a couple years ago. It’s pretty neat.

  2. The USB is 2.0. The power supply is 500 W, trying to distribute power to 5 devices, which I guess was too many for it to handle.

My printer is messed up, it was working fine yesterday. Then today I went on website to print out a job app in pdf form, it gave me a weird error, I tried to right click and hit ‘cancel’ but it doesn’t go away it just says “deleting error” and stays there. I tried printing another document but still nothing goes through, I changed the USB port checked all the plugs, restarted explorer…still nothing.

500 watts should be plenty

Wow. So I’m really fucking pissed right now. Like, I want to punch something pissed off. Smash some god damn walls down like The Hulk or some shit. >_<

Currently I’m having internet stability problems and I really have no idea what the cause is. It may be my wireless router, but I’m not sure. This is recent too, probably within the last 2-3 weeks. A few months ago my old wireless USB adapter stopped working properly (prior to it practically dying, it ran at full connectivity, 5/5 bars 90% of the time, and at 54 Mbps). Before replacing it, the wireless USB adapter refused to work as a USB 2.0 device, only ran at 11 Mbps (although the signal strength was still 5/5 most of the time), and I had to reinstall it after every restart. So, after deciding it was officially dead, I borrowed my friend’s wireless PCI card. When I installed the card it had generally weak signal quality (usually somewhere around 1-2 connectivity bars out of five) and the network speed ranged from 18 Mbps to 36 Mbps, but could still run online games just fine (i.e. Warcraft III and Team Fortress 2, my two most played games). About two weeks ago the signal strength turned abyssmal, about 0-1 connectivity bars and the connection speed became even worse, usually drifting around the 11 Mbps. Even with connectivity drifting between 0/5 and 1/5 I still connected to the internet just fine; however, playing Warcraft III and TF2 became impossible. I’d often lag out in WCIII and disconnect from the game or have the lovely “Warning: Connection Problem” message pop up randomly when playing TF2 (indicating packet loss).

About a week ago I reformatted, hoping it was a computer related issue. I also brought a brand new wireless USB adapter to replace the generally shitty wireless PCI card I’m borrowing. The wireless USB adapter currently runs at usually 48 to 54 Mbps with a 3/4 to 4/5 signal strength, but sometimes it drops to 36. Oddly enough, today my network speed dropped to 1 Mbps (yes, fucking 1 Mbps on a 54g network) and wouldn’t go back up until I restarted the router. Earlier I tried to host a WCIII game, but pretty much everyone lagged out or left. TF2 has similar problems like before with “Warning: Connection Problem” popping up periodically and making “time freeze” for me, causing everyone to quickly run at light speed as the game tries to catch up with what has happened since I started getting what seems like packet loss.

The wireless router we own is coming up on three years old and I think it may be the reason why I appear to be getting random packet loss. My ISP seems perfectly stable. I’m currently running on fiber optics with an average of 9500 kbps down and 3500 kbps up. Download speeds and uploading speeds seem solid and consistent, but playing online games seems to be out of the question right now.

Any ideas? Is there any way I can test this any further to see if my router is dying on me? I don’t want to spend money on buying an uncertain “fix it.” Ideas I had were to plug in directly to the router (which would require to move my computer downstairs, ugh… or buy a really long CAT5 cable) or buy some sort repeater to increase signal strength ($$$). Judging with what I typed out above, I really think the router just may be dying on me, but I’d like to get some opinions from others.

Thanks.
