Computer Help Thread v4.0

Check your device manager to ensure nothing is missing or not installed. Many times a PC will have problems do to incorrect or missing chipset drivers.

So I just got a new lap top and it came with Vista.

I can’t use utorrent and other programs I did a google search and other people are able to but I haven’t figure out why I can’t.

Any help for me? beside switching back to XP?

Is it the latest version of uTorrent? How far is it going to the point where it doesn’t work? Are you getting it to launch and you just can’t start leeching? Or it just won’t startup period.

It ok I google the problem and solve it myself.

Any who if this ever happen to any one else here your solution

Basically you have to

  • Turn off all firewalls
  • Save the torrent file
  • Run uTorrent under admin
  • Then open the torrent after uTorrent load up

WOW now I see why people hate on Vista so much.

hey guys, we recently had a power outage over here, after which my wireless router Linksys WRT54GSv7 stopped working. :frowning:

i’ve tried powering down the router, cable modem and computer: separately and individually. i’ve also tested the connection directly from the cable modem to my computer, which is good (and how i am connecting to the net right now).

is there any hope for my router? i JUST bought the damn thing too :(.

Reset the router to factory specs and start over. Flash the firmware. It’s not at all uncommon for power surges, spikes, and failures to cause data corruption. There’s a chance It could have been broken too. Hopefully not.

How I do dat yo?

I don’t know. it’s different from model to model. Read the manual for help.

Yeah, because it’s the operating system’s fault third-party apps are written so crappily for it.

Seriously, if uTorrent still requires to be run as admin in Vista, it’s the fault of the uTorrent developers for not properly testing and fixing the program in Vista.

I can tell you how to get your factory specs. Log into your router from the computer from which it is connected, and under administration, click Restore to Factory Defaults. Then, press the reset button on your router (Normally you have to use like a pencil or something relatively small in diameter to press it) for thirty seconds.

I don’t know about the flash, but I stumbled upon this.

i flashed my shit, and now i think i really do have a bona fide brick on my hands. i can’t even access the web GUI thru 192.168.1.1 anymore. fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk meeee

If you had never changed the password or IP address someone could have changed it for you. Flashing it doesn’t reset the data, so you might still need to disconnect from the net, press the button on the router, and create a new password if you haven’t done so already.

Well guys my gf got a nice rig built yet been hassling for about 2 hours trying too get winxp on it. At first the sucker had this nividia boot agent problem scrapped that by disabling her gig-bit lan adapter. Now when it says boot from cd it just sits there. I keep hitting enter too start it up and does nothing granted im using a legit copy of winxp pro. Switched drives too see it it’s a bum drive still nothing. I even changed around her boot sequence too cd, HDD then floopy still nothing. Specs here they come

3.2ghz P4-D
2 gigs of DDR2
nforce 570 slit-A MB
riding on a g-force 7300?
500 gig sata :open_mouth:
Checked wires still nothing only thing plugged is one of her cd-roms and hdd. Cd-rom and HDD detected in bios so im stumped help would be appreciated!!!

try downloading and burning a copy of slax live

first download

if it will boot up into it, chances are, the processor is dead, and when it tries to actually install an operating system, it gets overloaded

if it wont boot up into the live cd, it’s probably your memory gone bad.

Ok, this might be anal but just want to make sure. I had my internal hdd on one of those rail slots you can pull out. I forgot that I didn’t put in any screws to hold the HDD, so I picked it up and it dropped approximately 6" onto my lap. I want to use this drive to store my music, not so sure about it anymore. Are you okay?

should be fine… and i don’t see what’s anal about it…

how about this, before you come and ask a stupid question:

TEST THE FUCKER OUT!

Hey guys, having some problems with my video cards s-video out. I’ve got a 4 pin connector that runs from my card (Geforce 6200) to my tv which has a 4 pin connector as well. I’ve gone into my video card settings and tried to detect the display but it only recognizes my computer monitor. I’ve even made sure that the “Force TV Detection” box is checked and rebooted to try and get the computer to recognize it. It won’t display the “Clone” option only single display is shown since it doesn’t know the TV is there. Do I need a certain driver or some other piece of software to make my computer recognize it? I’ve run out of ideas and spent the last couple hours trying to figure this out. Thanks in advance for any help.

if you’re cloning a monitor to display on a tv…

don’tf orget… SUPER LOW RESOLUTION!

why is f-secure callin mirc.exe riskware/malware?

False positives happen all the time. Assuming your mIRC.exe is uncracked/unaltered, chances are pretty slim it’s infected with anything. You can try http://virusscan.jotti.org/ to see if any other AV finds anything.
