Computer Help Thread v4.0

that could work. i’ve had some awkward issues with firefox…

uninstall it, run a registry cleaner, search for mozilla on your “C” drive, and delete all the references to it.

you should be good after that.

if it too general i wouldnt be asking… im not good with comp stuff thats why i ask newb questions… ANY ADVICE with my bw cd/

reason it’s general:

  1. it could be the disc having a scratch
  2. it could be your operating system’s installer getting all jacked up for whatever reason
  3. it could be the optical drive just being a little dirty and not reading the disc correctly
  4. it could be the cable connecting the optical drive
  5. it could be your motherboard with some random shit with your optical drive and / or hard drive
  6. it could be your hard drive conflicting some how with the whole installation process.

don’t give the b/s that you’ve installed other programs or other cds work. that excuse is thrown out in a scenario like this, because it doesn’t mean that there’s something really tiny that the a piece of hardware or your operating system doesn’t like about the one disc… i wasn’t able to open up soundforge on my computer for a while… because my wallpaper was a png file… yes… i changed the wallpaper, and it magically opened up again… i change it back to the png, and it didn’t work… then i converted the png to a jpeg, and it worked fine… random, no?

it’s too general to make an absolute conclusion as to why it’s freezing.

yea that def. helped thanks man! it feels good to be using firefox even though the “speed dial” thing in opera is really coool

  • Connecting Nintendo DS Lite to a DI 614+ router without the USB: IS IT POSSIBLE.

I am having trouble keeping my CPU clock.
I set the overclock in the bios. Its at 222, x15.
I have used this before when I used Vista 32 no problem, Since I installed 64 the clock does not change. Everest reads the clock at stock but the bios says the fsb is at 222.

Asus m2n32sli deluxe.
Amd 6000
latest bios.

Vista 64 doesn’t always read the overclocked settings. on mine, depending on the program, i see the overclock. if you use an intel, try getting TET and seeing what it says you’re running at.

Its an AMD 6000 Im afraid.
If I use AIoverclock It changes the clock for a few seconds then reverts back to 3000

that’s odd…

i’ve never overclocked an AMD, so I wont offer any advice :frowning:

I have a question… my friend’s pc is all slow and has crap on it so he wants to start fresh… he has the burnt dvd’s of his operating system that he made when he got the system…

can he simply reinstall windows and will that erase all his data?

or does he have to format the hard drive first?

during the reinstallation, it will ask you if you want to delete the partition that hte current OS is on. so do that…

I pretty much found a solution to most of my problems with computers here. They have a plethora of topics, including a gamers section: They have all sorts of stuff there, check it out.

thanks for the link.

modem>router>360???

ok…

so i have a dsl moden (actiontec m1000) and a wireless router (belkin n1 wireless router) and no matter what i do it wont allow for my xbox to have an open nat… the best i can get is moderate… ive tweaked both for hours and nothing…

i dont know what else to try now…

anyone have any ideas?

Is it possible to put the Xbox on the DMZ?

yeah i tried that but nothing still…

i dont yet know enough about nat to know if i should turn off one of the nat settings on either the modem or the router since they both have it on…

so do you pay for the site? seems to be the only way to get answers to questions

There’s a way around that. You can type your question or issue into Google and set the advanced options to search that domain. Then you can check the results through the cached web pages to view the answers.

I’m getting a new computer this week and I was just advised that it comes preloaded with Vista. What’s the best way to get XP on it and Vista off?

You would need a copy of XP. To install:

Start the computer. You should see a message indicating a key to press to enter settings. This will take you to the BIOS.

Look for the boot order options and make sure the CD-ROM drive is first.

Exit BIOS. Make sure the Win XP CD is in the drive.

During the install process you will have the option to format your harddrive. Make sure you do.

Voila.

Now, if there are no Win XP drivers for your laptop, doing this would not be smart as you will lose a lot of functionality and possibly even performance, depending. If you are not comfortable using unofficial drivers and doing a lot of research, you’re better off not doing this.

If you need a good Win XP notebook, get one from Sager.
