Ok I’m not sure how the hell this happened. In firefox, if I’m browsing anything that has text and I left click, that cursor icon that shows where your position is in word-processing programs shows up (the blinking line). So when this happens, I can’t use the up/down buttons to immediately scroll on the browser, if I press up/down it just brings the text cursor up/down on the text lines. Anyway to fix this? There doesn’t seem to be any options in firefox settings for this so I’m not sure how the hell it even happened.
I’m sure re-installing firefox would fix this but then I’d have to re-enter all my saved passwords and bookmarks. :wasted:
Well if u do go this route, the bookmarks are no problem. U can export your bookmarks and import them back (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > File > Export).
When u’ve re-installed, same thing but instead of export select import.
My computer cannot access google.com. At first I thought the site was down, but apparently it’s just my connection, and none of my browsers can access it. I can access Gmail, but not google.
WTF? I pinged it and no problems…but I still cannot load google.com.
Okay what the heck is this service perfmonss.exe? Been trying too get outside my firewall for days. Blocked it yet nothing is turning up on virus scans and spy-ware scans.
I managed to find another copy of XP, and reformatted and installed that. Put in all the MB drivers and VGA drivers yada yada yada.
However, DirectX is still acting up. But there is a bit of hope. I ran Nestopia, and it ran. However, when I tried to run it again, it crashed (dinput8.dll error). I checked the registry and deleted the keys related to it in the list of applications using DirectInput. ZSNES had a key in there too, and deleting the Nestopia key caused ZSNES to not run. However, after deleting all the keys in that folder, leaving the “Most Recent Application” key, both programs run fine. DXDIAG still crashes though.
Checking it further, when I run Nestopia, and it runs fine, it puts a key in the registry, and then refuses to run after that unless I manually delete the key. All I can assume is that it’s putting invalid data into the registry. ZSNES is doing the same thing, refusing to run while its own key is in the registry. Ugh.
This is the registry entry, in case that’s important:
I give it up to preference. Some people will say that IE isn’t as secure as the other two, but unless you browse like a complete idiot I don’t think it should really make a huge difference. However, I have to admit that Opera is often not supported by some sites. For example, Opera is my favorite browser but I don’t use it because it isn’t support by the new Yahoo Maill, causing glitches when I try to use it.
My recommendation would be to just spend some time using each one and decide which you like the best.
sounds like a conflict with your video card drivers and / or firmware
Firefox is the most secure, and the most reliable.
i seriously think it’s your router.
the only thing that i can think of is to reset your network connection settings, such as your firewall. most firewalls don’t block the command prompt, so you’d be able to ping sites you can’t normally visit.
disable your firewall and try it… you could have accidentally clicked block google
FJF314: you’re rite, when i go to yahoo to check my mail shit start spazzing . i couldnt check my mail. i still have internet explorer.
should i keep internet explorer if i use opera only, would it take up space memory etc…/
firefox sound sick from what i been hearing from friends and ppl. might use that, but does it matter if u have too many browsers/ would that take up space n memory/
What do you keep in your “spyware/malware removal kit”? All of my relatives call me whenever they fuck up windows and I am trying to see what others out there usually do for emergency repairs.
