Does anybody else use RIFFWalk? I’m going to assume “no”, but – just thought I’d ask just in case.
I use Real Alternative with Media Player Classic. If you already have Media Player Classic, then you can get the Lite version, which is just the codec+webplugin. http://www.codecguide.com/download_real.htm
I’m about ready to defrag my system drive…is the Windows Defrag good enough, or are there better defrag “freeware”?
Windows Disk Defragmenter is good enough, but there’s wayyy better out there. I prefer Diskeeper 2007 (http://www.diskeeper.com/defrag.asp).
For what it’s worth, I believe the Diskeeper people actually made the Disk Defragmenter that’s in Windows… it’s just a really old, stripped down version.
I recommend Diskeeper 2007 also. I like the automatic defragmentation–you never have to do it manually, and it’s footprint is very small (if you configure it so).
Is there such a thing as a male VGA to male S-video cable, such as that to connect to a computer to a TV? Sounds like a simple thing but most online stores don’t have anything like it. Sorry if this doesn’t belong here. Didn’t wanna make a new thread just for it.
Thanks.
I had one, but I don’t know what happened to it. It was like this:

I have the AVG VIRUS program, but now it say i can update it. So should i update it or not. when i try installing it, it ask for the cd number n all this shit that i dont got, cuz some technician did it for us. is there any way for me to update it to newer version?
I have another question… when you delete stuff to go to the recycle bin, when u click delete and the recycle bin empty. i know the files are store inside my comp right? how do i make them go away completely?
i heard that u can have as many spyware and spybot as you want. the better the better. but you can only have one virus scan program. IS THIS TRUE? would it keep my comp alot safer?
bro, I’d like to help but Clarify your writing I think i only understood the last Q you wrote which my recommendation is screw spybot & adaware that is a POS software if you want something good that wont let you down as long as you keep it up to date along with all your windows updates then your answer is webrrot spysweeper with antivirus
I’m talking about updating AVG to the newest version. It’s asking me if i want to update it to the newest version. I click yes, and it take me to this website and i had to dl these files on that site. i dled the file then it ask for my username, cd key, and such, which i don’t got. i was wondering if i can get pass that without my cd key n such.
My other question is… You know when u delete something and it go to the recycle bin RIGHT…? When u go look at the recycle bin, you’ll see it’s FULL. so when you go empty the recycle bin, the recycle bin will look EMPTY right…? MY QUESTION IS… WHERE DO THE FILES N STUFF GO… DO THEY GO AWAY COMPLETELY OR ARE THEY STILL ON YOUR COMP SOMEWHERE? IF SO, HOW DO I GET RID OF THE FILES COMPLETELY AFTER I DELETE THE FILES FROM THE RECYCLE BIN.
Protip: Typing in caps won’t help anyone understand you.
Here’s a quiz.
I’ve had problems with DirectX for a while. Specifically, DirectInput. Even more specifically, dinput8.dll, as this file has been causing several programs, including DXDIAG, to fail.
I just reformatted and reinstalled Windows earlier today. My copy of Windows has DirectX 9.0c. As soon as it was installed I ran DXDIAG and no problems. I next installed the motherboard drivers, and ran it again. At that point, it failed. I uninstalled the drivers, to which DXDIAG would go through a pattern of failing with error message, failing and closing itself, and working fine with no failing. Repeat. First driver I put back on was the audio driver, and that caused DXDIAG to fail every time. After re-installing the rest of the MB drivers and VGA drivers, I uninstalled the audio drivers and tried again, and it’s failing on each attempt.
So now I have no clue as to what’s causing this file to crash programs that try to use it. A while ago I used safe mode to remove this file, and DXDIAG had no problems at all without it on my system. But since a lot of programs need it, I had to put it back, and some of these programs (not all of them though), crash trying to use it. For example, ZSNES needs it, but won’t crash with it, while Nestopia (or pretty much any NES emulator I’ve tried) crashes.
Now, the CD I used to install Windows isn’t the only CD I’ve had. The last one I had came with an older version of DirectX, and when I bought Doom 3 (and the expansion pack), those upgraded it to 9.0c, and from that point on there were no problems with this file. This one however is failing on installation. So I’m wondering if I got a copy with a bad file, though I’m sure none of these programs would work at all if that were the case. I’ve also tried replacing the DLL with one I downloaded, but that didn’t help either.
Google pulls up a lot of “registry cleaner” sites when I search for dinput8.dll errors. I’ve looked at my registry, and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT has no information about DirectInput. It has info about everything else DX-related except for that. I don’t know if that’s it, if something about DirectInput should be there, but there isn’t.
Any suggestions?
Quick question:
My first time messing with iso files or what not so I don’t know how to get it to play on the dvd player. I don’t want to mess up a good dvd-r. I just got Undisker to extract the contents from the iso and now I’m lost after that. Can anyone help a guy really fast?
Thanks
-Quan
I’m not exactly sure about what you need to do when it comes to DVDs. If you just need to mount the ISO, then I always used CDBurner XP. However, I would wait until someone else posts, because I’m not sure if you need to do anything extra when it comes to making things work in DVD players… my ISO experience is limited to mounting images for boot disks.
fjf314 has one part of it. Look for Alcohol 120 to mount the iso to a virtual drive if you feel like just playing the file on your machine. If you’re looking to actually burn the iso onto a DVD-R, then you can use pretty much any burning program that will burn images. Alcohol, Nero, Imgburn (my favorite for backing up my Wii games hehe), and I think even Roxio to a point, will burn .iso images. Nero is my personal choice for isos that aren’t Wii games.
Usually with ISOs, they’re nearly a 1:1 copy of a disc. Unless you’re looking at ripped movie DVDs, which are dual-layered and during the ripping process, they’re converted to single-layered for burn-ability onto a DVD-R.
Purple Bunny: tried installing the latest DirectX runtime and see if the problem comes up again? You can get it from here.
I’m having really wierd internet problems… It doesn’t happen all the time, but would anyone happen to know why I sometimes lose the ability to use my web browser (database error) when I still have the ability to connect to torrent trackers? It doesn’t make sense to me…
For some reason whenever i use mozilla firefox it doesn’t work i click the icon n the lil hourglass icon shows up so i know it’s at least trying to open but then nothing happens i tried reinstalling it n then clicking the “launch after installing option” n it didn’t even open then so i haveno clue what to do any help would be appreciated and the weird thing is i didn’t do anything differently today or anything that wold disrupt my internet i even turned off zone alarm security n it still don’t work.
Actually I did, but it refused to install since the version I have is already the latest version.
Before I reformatted, I used a tool that set it back to 8.1, but even then the runtime refused to install over it, even in safe mode.
A few of the affected programs, I was able to change their compatability settings to older Windows versions, but that eventually stopped working. Even after reformatting changing compatability does nothing now.
Do a full uninstall of it. Firefox leaves a lot behind if you just “Add & Remove Programs” it and that usually doesn’t fix anything. Google it for instructions.
