When i visited srk today i notice i could not see any animated avatars and also when i went on you tube a message pops up and says “cannot create directshow player”. I didn’t do any changes to my computer or installed anything new. can anyone help me here?
Anyone know of an application that easily manages a network?
I.E
I want to be able to remove say a program from everyone on the network or install it to everyone on the network without having to walk to each computer to install it.
Example: Say I want to remove Microsoft office 2003 and install it for everyone on the network. Something that would allow me to do that.
Also other network tools like monitoring whos on each terminal, statistics, etc.
If anyone can help with this let me know?
We been playing and tossing around ideas at my work place and I thought I would see if anyone got any recomendations.
Does inventory, distribution, etc etc… I havn’t used it myself (I got out of the IT field a few years ago and switched to Software Engineering) but a friend who has used it seemed to find it helpful.
So a kid stops by my dorm room and asks if I got some program called DC++ or whatever and I say no. He explains it’s a program that lets you download music from other people on campus via the university network.
Anyone know what he’s talking about? That would be pretty sweet especially since the school has a scanner to check from problems in everyone’s computers.
I tried doing “View Workgroup Computers” in My Network Places, but access was denied.
Don’t spend that much on a low level 7300. Generally, speaking of nVidia, the lower number of the 3rd place (eg 7X00) is bad. don’t go lower than a 7600. A perfect example is that a 6600 will probably outperform the 7300.
those are the best bets in the AGP sets. The 7600 GT is good enough that you can typically play FEAR on pretty decent settings and Oblivion on decent settings as well.
What’s the recommended minimum signal strength when using wireless Internet? Does it even make a practical difference? On one machine it stays near excellent and very good, whereas on another it hovers between fair and good but I haven’t noticed much of a difference between the two.
Edit: And while I’m here, is it normal for laptops to have difficulty processing sound when playing online using an emulator? I never had issues like that using a desktop PC.
ok, so I just got a AMD Athlon 2200+ Socket A cpu off of ebay to replace a 1.11 Duron piece of crap.
I forgot to order a new heatsink. Will the one off the Duron work if I clean off the paste and reapply? Or should I just get a heatsink rated for a 2200+?
Back in my day we didn’t NEED thermal paste! (remember just plopping in a 486/66 and hitting the power button).
Wow, thanks a bunch. I was thinking that a 512mb card would be better because of more memory, is that the case, or is that not really important on a video card?. Thanks for the heads up though, I really appreciate it.
Another question, again about wireless but on a different note. I’m using a computer that I know has Bluetooth capability (although whether or not it has the proper drivers or other required things, I’m not sure of). It has the blue light though and Bluetooth is mentioned in the specs. Anyway, when I go to control panel->printers and other hardware, it doesn’t have BT listed even though the help files say it should be.
I’m trying to use it to connect to a mobile phone, because I don’t know of another (free) way to put my own ringtone on it. If there are other ways I would be glad to hear them.
Mine is typically between 2-4 bars. i never hit all 5.
it’s not normal for laptops to have that problem. it might be a crappy integrated sound system in hte laptop or a bad sound encoder in the emulator your using. maybe a bad update?
there might be some kind of bluetooth option in the actual start menu.
