my computer is acting weird. it can’t read any kind of usb flash drive. they show up on the Windows Explorer, but whenever i try to open them, it says something like “windows cannot access the drive. you might not have permission” even though i am the administrator (and the only user) and it used to read these drives with no problem. other items work on my USB ports (mice, sticks). running winXP home.
I have my own optical drive and a free SATA hard drive I jacked from work, so that kept the price down to approximately $730 shipped. Of course it’ll cost more if you need an optical drive, hard drive, operating system, etc.
This isn’t really important, but are there any small cheap printers out right now?
I have my laptop in my dorm and don’t mind going to the library or computer labs, but when winter comes, it’d be more convenient to print something while in my room.
Laser printers might cost a little more, but the upkeep on them is insanely cheaper than inkjet printers. You pay more for reliability in laser printers. Inkjets? They practically give them away they’re so cheap.
A quick google of “3g2 to avi” brought me a bunch of utilities, but I’ve never used any of them. shrug I just google those things and pass them off as intelligent answers. :X sorry hehe
Unless the hard drive is separate from the hard drive that has Windows on it, I don’t think you can do it without a cd utility. I know Seagate has a disc wizard that you can use from boot, but I don’t know of anything from within Windows. A FORMAT C: /U would kill off your main hard drive, but you can’t do that from the Windows CMD prompt.
That’s for a program called HD Scrubber from Summit. I use it all the time and it’ll run from a GUI in Windows. It’ll zero out all the free space on a HD while you use it, however without a CD you cannot erase a disc that you are running Windows on.
k my comp so far its fine, but now once in awhile the internet would die on me. i have motorola cable modem for the comp and wireless router for the laptop. they’re both connected to each other, well the wires and such. Once in awhile the motorola would only have the POWER AND RECEIVE FULLY GREEN. THE OTHERS ALL BLACK. THERE’S 5 THINGS SUCH AS
POWER
RECEIVE
SEND
ONLINE
AND PC/ACTIVITY
i check the wires to see if it’s unplugged but still no help, i dont know whats going on.
I’m not familiar with this command, but would you be able to use the Command Prompt you can get to when you boot from a normal Windows CD to run it? One of the options from any XP CD, for example, is to go to a “Recovery Console”, which can function just like any other terminal, so it may be possible to run the command that way. Since most OEMs will provide you with a Windows CD, the OP wouldn’t have to make a boot disk, either (assuming the machine is from an OEM.)
/U is unconditionally. Which, from what I understand can only be done from outside Windows. I’d imagine, if he can get to a command prompt before Windows launches, he would be able to run the command to fully format the hard drive.
Then again, I’m trying to figure out if he’s trying to format the hard drive Windows is on, or just another physical hard drive on his system (slave drive, etc.)
Hi, I have a Windows XP pc with I think a 2ghz processor and a gig of ram. Would this AGP card be ok with my machine? I currently have a geforce fx 5200 that has worked like a champ, but I decided I wanted to try some 3d games out, and maybe have something that could handle more modern applications, in addition to Photoshop. Here is the card I am looking at:
Also, my monitor/tv has an HDMI and a VGA port, could I use the DVI out on this with an adapter for a better picture than I would get with a VGA connection?
Computer won’t turn on after pressing power button…
Here’s what I know:
Two weeks ago I noticed that it will not turn on unless I turn off the power supply (previously always on), then re-turn it back on, and it’s good. It’s been that like for a week and it became more increasingly difficult, it would take more tries than usual. Finally, the end has come and that’s it, no more off and on stuff.
One thing I did notice is that everytime my power supply is on, the motherboard responds with a red LED light. This always occured even before the issue, and that is the only consistent thing post-issue. So guys, is it my power supply, my motherboard, or something completely different? I really don’t know.
