I am aware of that size limit and think I have solved that to allow any size music file to be inserted.
I replied to your PM, check it. I had the same problem you had but I did figure what the problem was. I have created a method for a custom mvc2 for ps2, i just need confirmation that everything works before I release the tutorial on how to exactly do it.
I am having the same problem with the wav to adx program. when i convert the files by hand it works fine but when i use the program DKZ studio, it sais that the program needs to be stopped because adxencd has encountered a problem. please help. thanks
hey guys i started combomasher tutorial for custom mvc2. i have a custom self boot copy of mvc2 that i used for data transfer. BUT i couldn’t find the the dummy file or dummy bin in my custom mvc2 that i’m using for data… … please help
is there another name it could go by?
also is the dummy file a big file (like a couple hundred Megabytes)?
so currently i just copy’d everything into the selfboot folder, will this cause problems since i couldn’t find or leave out the dummy file?
also what the heck does the dummy file for?
sorry one last question when i follow the tutorial and get to the part CREATE ISO how do i know which option to use?
option 1 is "create selfboot image file"
option 2 is "echelon method"
what are the differences here?
thanks hombres
It can go by any name, but since unless told otherwise, ISO making programs sort by alphabet, they usually have A’ or 0’s in the beginning of the file name. Dummy file, if there is one, is huge. For fighters, which are small games, it will be bigger than the rest of the cd combined.
You can leave out the dummy file and it will work fine, except with possible sound skippage issues.
What they do:
Discs spin. The inside sections of data may spin by 1 meter of data per second by the laser, but when spun the same speed, the outtermost tracks may spin 3 meters of data by the laser. (number completely pulled out of my ass, but should get the point across) So, the farther out on the disk the data is, the faster it is read by the DC. So, a dummy file is a big file (disc size - game size = perfect dummy size) names early in the alphabet so it gets burned first, taking up all of the slow inside room on the CD, so all of the game gets burned on the outside, faster, areas, resulting in lower load times, and less FMV or audio skippage.
thanks bro, that helps clear things up, i guess the self boot copy i’m using doesn’t have a dummy file, cause i searched almost every icon n nuttin, the total megabytes on this mvc2 copy is around 500mb.
so i guess its a good idea to create a dummy file for my custom mvc2 then right Toodles?
Toodles can you please help me out here:
sorry one last question when i follow the tutorial (combo masher’s one http://dhost.info/combomasher/index.php ) and get to the part CREATE ISO how do i know which option to use?

I took like 7 songs and cropped them together to make one .wav file. I turned this file into the training stage music so I could hear more than 1 song when I practiced. Well, all those songs work in training mode but when I try different levels the game resets. Some stages work and some don’t which leads me to believe that maybe some of the .adx’s are bad but why would it let me listen to them in training mode?
I didnt use new songs for the training stage. I cropped them together from all the single stage music I originally changed. Used acid pro to crop all the songs I wanted together fyi.
Yeah the tutorial is the shit but the only thing I can’t figure out is how to make the songs loop by themselves. I follow the Loop-rename tutorial but there is no indication that the songs are being looped, but the loop.bat does convert the files to .bin I end up having to loop the songs manually which isn’t bad but I’d rather have it done for me.
Just use DKZstudio program that is uncluded in the new zip file, the loop-rename files can be used but dkzstudio is the best way to go since it can do everything for you as well.
how new is the new zip file because I thought I had the newest one, well I’ve had for about 2 months or so.
maybe I’m just not looking good or maybe I don’t have it.
need some help guys: i can’t figure out to do this mod in CVS2!
i tried using exoboot that combo masher recommened, i tried version 1.31 and 1.21. they don’t work for me, am i doing something wrong?
combomasher said to follow all the steps in the guide after modifying music to adx files, and creating the dummy file, after this point i don’t know where to go? bin2boot from combomasher does not work
do i need to install a new 1st_read bin into cvs2? can it be from combomasher’s selfboot mvc2 folder?
do i need to install an IP bin in cvs2? looking in the cvs2 data folder, there is none… …
can someone please help me out here with re-making CVS2 w/new music?
i did the songs, changed them to adx, made a dummy file. now my dilemmas are:
1)do i need a new 1st read bin? the cvs2 disc i have is a selfboot copy.
can i use this one from the self boot copy?
can i use the 1st read bin from combomashers selfboot folder?
can i use a 1st read bin from any of the other mvc2 remakes i have?
what about the ip bin?
can i use the one from combomashers seflboot folder?
do i even need an ip bin?
what program can i use to selfboot cvs2?
i tried bin2boot no luck
i tried exboot version 1.21 and 1.31 no luck either
(maybe i’m doing something wrong with these exboot versions, i dunno for sure)
and other other info and detailed steps, please let me know, i am so grateful to all my brothers here at srk thank you
You do not need a new one, you can use the one with your original cvs2 disk, as long as the one your are making is a selfboot.
1a.yes
1b.If its for the game you are tweaking, sure. Double check, but just use the one you already have.
1c. NO. 1st_read.bin’s are NOT interchangable.
2.What about it?
2a. Yup. They ARE interchangable between games (mostly)
2b. Yup.
Tons of options. bin2boot, or the echelon self boot tutorial if you like getting your hands dirty in DOS.
Just follow the tutorial. With the exception of the name of the ADX files, everything is identical tweaking MvC2 and CvS2. As long as you make sure your new music is the same name and same directory as on your current cvs2 copy, everything else is identical.
i have made numerous mvc2 remixes following combomashers guide, no problems but when it comes to CVS2 combomashers bin2boot (i’m guessing is the cause for my coastered cvs2 remakes not to work) i looked back a few post and he (combomasher) said that bin2boot doesn’t work for him either (game gets to the audio cd track thang on the DC) and he claimed that exoboot (not sure what version though) worked for him. i followed that linked, downloaded exoboot 1.31. exoboot 1.31 didn’t work it won’t even start re-doing my cvs2 data folder.
i think x997 (srk memeber)(he’s made like 4 dozen coasters in his attmept!) in cvs2 claimed that exoboot version 1.21 finally worked for him, so i went to that version and same thing as version 1.31. i know these exoboot programs are real small, maybe i don’t have the full/correct one or i don’t know what the hell i’m doing… … btw i don’t know any DOS at all, could that be the problem. i’m the click n drag type of guy but if i have to learn a little DOS i’ll gladly do it
if you could baby walk me through (step by step) on how you remake cvs2 successfully i would so be grateful. INFACT I’LL PAYPAL YOU OR WHOMEVER $50 BUCKS FOR THEIR KIND EFFORTS for helping this poor sap (me) out
man, i just want know how to do it correctly. Bro, guide me and let me know exactly how you do it.
fyi- renaming songs an all that crap i got it down, just need the right info on the selfbooting part. bin2boot does not work, exoboot didn’t work either, will the echelon method from combomashers tutorial work for cvs2?
let me know G (i can paypal ya asap for your guideness to success)
