Complete "How to Change the Music in MVC2 + How to make your game selfboot" Thread

oh wow, didn’t know it was that big…hmm yeah bittorrent doesn’t work…darn, well I’ll have to put this project off for a bit.

oh wow, didn’t know it was that big…hmm yeah bittorrent doesn’t work…darn, well I’ll have to put this project off for a bit. thanks

actually maybe someone can upload it to like megaupload? or split it in two? because megauploads maximum upload and download is 250. unless you have premium. I’d be willing to buy a 2-day premium pass so i can get this if anyone wants to work with me

I might be able to…I dunno, my upload speed is always slow.

when I got a chance to look for it on bit and lime I couldn’t find it :’(

yeah you won’t find it on limewire. you need bittorrent and to look on the torrent searches to find anything.

i looked on this one site, but a bunch of mvc2 files. I don’t know which one is reliable and which one to get!!! but it’s better than nothing. now I just need to get to a comp that has a good connection and you can use bit on…

i dont know if this has been asked or if it is even possible but…i have the ps2 version of mvc2 so i’ve been meaning to ask if this process can work on the ps2 version too…my dreamcast control ports burned out cuz me and my friend we’re going at it in mvc2 so after we reset the game the controls didnt work anymore so…no i dont have a working dreamcast (in case someone asks lol)

I’ve seen PS2 games with remixed track, but the only on I’ve heard worked perfectly was Naruto Narutimate Hero 3. I don’t imagie it would be hard to do the same of the PS2 version of MvC2 as long as the audio was ADX format, but the CD/DVD wouldn’t be selfboot. you’d most certainly need a boot disk or a chipped PS2.

Question # 1: Is it okay/safe for me to try and burn my original PS2 copy (Korean version) onto a CD?
You see, I’ve never even burned a current-gen game before let alone tried to change the music for it. I’m gonna try and see if I can get it to work with the PS2 version (swap magic).

Question #2: Should I be checking to see if the burned copy even works before I get started with this process, or should that be done afterwards?

Sorry to sound like a scrub on the subject.
It’s just that I don’t want to fuck up before I even get started as I only have one blank CD to work with at the moment. That and I don’t want my original copy to become unplayable because of some stupid mistake I made.

Can anyone help?

Okay, so it is safe to make an image from my original copy.

Well, I followed (most of) the steps until I got to the part on creating a selfbooting image. When I drag over the bin file, no Dos window pops up at all. Only thing that shows up is a bin2boot.exe icon in the folder but when I click on it, it says: “Attempt to access invalid address” I’m not sure if it has anything the do with it being the PS2 version or what.

So does anyone actually have a working PS2 version MVC2 custom mix? If so, can you give me some pointers? I read through the whole topic twice and maybe I’m still missing something. I’m about to read it again.:looney:

Also, does it matter that I’m going to be using a CD-RW instead of a CD-R?
See I already burned it once (skipping the selfboot step) and when I tried to load it with swap magic I just got the: “Not a valid PS2 disc” message. I was wondering if that was because I skipped the selfboot step or because of the actual CD type. If it’s the latter, then I’ll go buy some CD-Rs tomorrow.

my dreamcast keeps reading the disc as a music cd, and will only load the game like once every 100 tries.

It’s really pissing me off. Why does it keep doing that?

Well I have never done this with PS2, and havent heard so far that anyone has been able to do this with PS2. I dont have much experience with ps2 burning, but I think that you need to burn to a dvd disc rather then a cd-r/rw. And I think that the whole selfbooting process will be different since you want to make a selfboot game for a completely different system, so the DC instructions wouldnt work. The only steps that would be the same I think is if the music files for the ps2 version of marvel were .adx files. If that was true, then i would assume that you could do the same method for converting the songs as you would with the DC version. But the whole selfbooting part should be a whole different process.

Can anyone PM me the image file for the deamcast version then? I’m going to go ahead and get it to work on there. (That doesn’t mean I’m giving up on the PS2 version though)

Yeah, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is one of the few PS2 games that is actually a CD-Rom as opposed to a DVD-Rom; that’s why I’m using the CD-RW/CD-R.
It turns out that the disc didn’t even work as a stand-alone backup (when I just formatted it and burned only what was copied from the original disc using Alcohol 120%) so maybe it was because it was a CD-RW.
I’ve been browsing around the internet and apparently no one knows a way to make PS2 backups selfboot. I’ve even seen people say: “You can’t”. I’m assuming that a modchip or swap-magic does all the work and boots the burned PS2 games for them.

And on the subject of the converting the songs as long as both versions use ADX format: how could you tell? I didn’t see anything in the PS2 image file that indicated the use of .adx files.
Here’s an image of the contents from the image file ripped directly from my original copy:http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/5440/marvelps2folderimagebr7.th.png

Does it look similar to the dreamcast image or completel different? (There’s nothing with.adx in the other two folders in that image either btw).

I bought ten potential “coasters” today (I’ll set three aside for trying to work the dreamcast version). When I get home, if I can even get a working PS2 backup, then I’ll start experimenting and let you guys know if I find a successful method.

BTW, Combomasher, do you still plan on making a forum?

EDIT: Whoa… I thought by uploading that image on imageshack that it would at least be visble.(Sorry it’s my first time)
Well here’s what the contents are respectively:

  1. A folder named “MODULES”.
  2. A folder named “PS2”.
  3. A TM2 file called “FONT_8.TM2”
  4. A 23 file called “SLPM_645.23”
  5. Something named “SYSTEM” (Has a computer icon)

So, any similarities?

so does anyone have any info of what info i should look for when i look to dl this image file. like size/name/source etc.

no, but you’re on the outer layer which is primarily boot instructions for the PS2. you’d be looking for files with names like ADX_S000.bin

if those aren’t there, then I have no idea where to start.

BTW I have never seen a PS2 with the same file system as DC ever. I highly doubt it will work using the DC method. Keep me updated on your progress though.

The only success I had so far was making a Mix for the Dreamcast version. I also want to mention that I didn’t go through the step to make the game selfboot because for some reason the program that was supposed to do it didn’t do anything on my computer as well as the other two selfboot programs provided somewhere near the beginning of this topic (Maybe it’s because I’m an XP user, I dunno if that matters). If anyone else is experiencing this problem then you should probably just download and burn the image file for the Utopia boot disc and use that to boot the game.

My progress with the PS2 version thus far:
Okay, even though I managed to make a stand-alone backup for the PS2 (you HAVE to use CD-R, it won’t work with CD-RW) I didn’t make a successful custom mix at all. Any disc where I included the ADX files would just load a black screen, but would never start the game.

However, after going through like 6 “coasters” of trying different setups and arrangements and making a Mix for the Dreamcast version, I think I know the reason(s) why it wont work out the same way.

Let me first start off by answering beatsofdevil’s question:

When I torrented the image file, it was just a bunch of the same zip file. All you have to do is extract one of them to get the image file (which is roughly 700 mb, give or take). Mount the image to Daemon’s Tools as described in Combomasher’s tutorial and here’s a jist of the contents you should see (Or at least this is what I saw):

  1. 6 Folders: " DPETC, DPFONT, DPMODEL, DPSS, DPTEX, and DPWWW"
2.A SHITLOAD of .bin files (You’ll also see the ADX files amongst them)
  2. Amongst those bin files is also the DUMMY.DAT file which you’ll want to get rid of (to be replaced later) when you put all these files into your data folder as described in Combomasher’s tutorial.

I hope this answers your question.

…The contents of this image file is NOTHING like the image file for the PS2 version. When you’re changing the files of the Dreamcast version, you’re not actually changing the names of anything so the Dreamcast still thinks it’s the same game.
I didn’t realize this when I first started off trying to do this with the PS2 version and adding files that were never meant to be there in the first place. So I decided to check and see if I could figure out what the actual files of PS2 version were about:

-In the MODULES folder there are a bunch of .IRX files. After doing a little bit of reading on them I think they’re basically toolkits for the developers to use:http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/3109/modulesfolderimagejw7.th.png

I’m not sure if there’s anyhing in there that works with .ADX files and it wouldn’t allow me to dig any deeper by trying to open them.

-In the PS2 Folder are a few .ASF file (Advanced Streaming Format?):http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/8914/ps2folderimageaz1.th.png
MAYBE they have something to do with the way the music is played in the PS2 version?

Right now, I’ve only got two CD’s left to work with ('Prolly gonna get some more next week if we make any more progress). If anyone has any suggestions/ideas on perhaps converting audio to ASF, let me know and I can try that out.

So I’m still willing to buy a megaupload 2 day premium pass to get the ISO if anyone is willing to work with me. Just PM me.

spacedock=shittin’ in the pussy! use it and love it

another totall irrelevent 1/2man1/2god comment!

Alright, so I was messing with the ps2 mvc2 and found the Music files for each stange. I still need to do some work on it but it looks like you can change the music for ps2 as well.

BUT!!!..from what i’ve read, in order to play burned games you need a modchip or to hack your ps2 to get these games to work.
