Complete "How to Change the Music in MVC2 + How to make your game selfboot" Thread

(I would paypal somebody $5 to update the first post or to have mod rights to edit it for them.)

Assuming you had a CDI image, go to step 4 option 1 in this PDF:

That is, open up DiscJuggler 3.5. Go to File:New. Click Burn CD and DVD Images. Click on the CD icon and point it to that CDI you scavenged. Under the Advanced tab, click MODE 2 and CD-XA, uncheck “Add post-gap to 3rd party images”. Click START.

Once that completes, put that in your Dreamcast and party like it’s 2003.

I was looking everywhere for this guide. All got until now was a 404. Thanks for keeping an archive/mirror. Hopefully I can apply this to Super Turbo and other games… But yeah. I would have resorted to archive.org if I still couldn’t find it after another 10 minutes

Anyone have srk 2009 edition or a way to get it somehow? I know we cant talk about it more persay… so a PM would be nice, just looking for the DL so I can DL and … Cast FIRE to it on a circle with a hole in a middle ( makes sense? ) or the MAGNETOS INFINITE FILE ( AKA drunk 3rd strike guy also ) for DL.

So, I started looking into doing color edits. After being told about Palmod and finding http://zachd.com. I hit a few snags because of all of the dead links. But after finding this thread and Preppy’s tools index I was good to go. But then I hit another snag, which I’ve seen tons of people run into. And that would be the fact that Bin2Boot isn’t compatible with 64 bit Windows 7 OSes. Thankfully the internet always provides an answer and I found out that not only can you use another program, but it simplifies the process as well.

Follow Combomasher’s guide on how to make a self boot (option 1) until you get to the step “Next is to create an ISO out of your data.” Skip all of that. Once you’ve got the dummy.dat, 1st_read.bin, and ip.bin replaced, open up BootDreams. Under the snake icon (Discjuggler icon), click on browse next to the ‘Self Boot Folder’, find the folder that your custom mix is in and select it. Make sure that disc format is set to Data/Data and not Music/Data and click process. A popup will appear and state that the main binary is a Katana binary and ask you if you’d like to scramble it. Select no. Name your file and save it, and a window will open showing the percentage compiled, and then close, a new window will open and begin creating your self boot. When it closes you’re done. You’ve now got a self booting .cdi file that can be burned to DiscJuggler and played in a Dreamcast or used in NullDC/Chankcast for emulation. I suggest emulating it first to see how it looks/sounds before you burn to discs.

If for some reason you want to save it as an .ISO file, use PowerISO, add the folder that your custom mix is in and save as an .iso. Simple as that. But with Bootdreams you don’t really need to since you can just save it as a .cdi file.

I was wondering if there were any places that people posted recolors. I’ve made a few and I’d like feedback, but I didn’t want to put them in the wrong thread or something. If they go here I might post some of my stuff here for opinions and tips.

You mind sharing your editz with me

Sure, I’ll pm you. I’ll also post this here in case anyone’s interested. Any feedback would be great.

The title is the code you need to paste into Palmod to get that pallette. I’m swiping from 0:0 to 0:15 which might be wrong. Do most people start at 0:0 or 0:1 when they copy the codes in?

Samples:

Very nice, wasnt someone working on super detailed sprites? Like detailed ass stuff?

I am currently reworking the one I did for the ps2 for a dreamcast version.
I either have a upbeat mix or a Bay Area Slappers mix. Still deciding on the two.

I’ll upload the EVO 08 mix to rapidshare shortly.

EDIT - Rapidshare deletes uploaded files by non- premium users if they haven’t been DL’ed for 30 days, so if any links are down PM me.

thanks dude

No problem.

Samples of some new stuff. I could post the codes for my stuff here if anyone wants them.

anyone mind sharing some colours?
also, how do i add codes to palmod?

Sure. All of the samples that line up to the colors are in this photobucket:

As for how to add codes to Palmod you’ll need to copy the code and then paste it in. All of my codes are from 0:0 to 0:15 (the entire grid). Just click the first box and hold M1 and swipe all of them. You’ll want all of the boxes highlighted. Then you go to the edit tab and scroll down to paste and paste it in. It’ll change the colors to match. For example:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g84/Sparkamus_Prime/Palette%20Edits/Joseph.png
(#10000F111FFFFF22FF00DF009F11AFFD9FFA8FD87FA51FFF2FFE2FDC0FCB0FDC0)

For that just paste in: (#10000F111FFFFF22FF00DF009F11AFFD9FFA8FD87FA51FFF2FFE2FDC0FCB0FDC0) into the box for Magneto. The preview will change to the sample. Then you just update it and patch changes. It’s pretty simple once you get the hang of it. So is making your own colors. It’s mostly knowing what looks good, or having a vague idea of what you want to do.To get the codes to share with others you highlight the entire selection and click copy. It’ll spit out a code that looks similar to the ones being posted.

oh ok thanks, nice colours btw.
pretty fun hobby to do haha.

No problem, and thank you for the compliment. I agree that it’s a very fun hobby. I always loved making custom colors for other games that allowed for it. I think it’s pretty awesome that there’s a tool that lets you add custom colors to games that don’t normally allow you to. Romneto helped me get into it by giving me some information on youtube, and I’ve been messing with it every since. I like being able to give back to a game I love so much. Especially since you can be so damn creative with Palmod.

i miss the good old days when this was crackin

another question, can someone suggest a way to open up cdi’s?
one of the mixes i have wont open up with daemon tools.

Daemon Tools is just used to mount the ISO so you can get into the data inside of it. It’ll handle ISOs and that’s generally how people use it to play games they don’t have tangible copies for. But if you want to play the mixes on your PC you’ll need to find a Dreamcast emulator. NullDC while glitchy (if you have access to a real Dreamcast just burn the mixes to CDRs and play them on it), it’ll do the trick if you don’t have access to a Dreamcast. You’ll be able to easily find NullDC, but sometimes finding the bios for one can be a problem. But if you look long enough you’ll find one.

Maybe later if I get time I’ll upload nullDC to my mediafire. You’ll need to play and unlock the stuff in the game though, I still haven’t found a data file for memory card saves to put into nullDC. But if anyone has that and they want to share that’d be great.
