Complete "How to Change the Music in MVC2 + How to make your game selfboot" Thread

I don’t think many people care about the PS2 version since that version has got some serious issues - same reason, more or less, why they don’t use the Ps2 version at Evo.

aha! well crap on me, LOL.

i found some newer question/answer threads. showed me a couple things to use different and a couple things to ignore. i made my first DVD and CD ISO (did it both ways just for S&G’s) tried the burned CD ISO with the “do-it-yerself-no-Swap-Magic” trick but it didn’t fly, so i’m looking into Swap Magic or a chip-mod (because i’ve got the slim ps2 with no network adapter to fiddle with). i think i even found some torrents of other peoples’ custom ps2 mvc2 jobs.

cross fingers that all i need now is to mod my ps2!

oh, BTW, Preppy I love your site. I’m very glad to see arcade gaming, especially MVC2, is going strong still somewhere. I sure wish I had easy access to something here in Pepperell, MA. I think the three of us who play are going to try and recruit, LOL.

It’s going to be about another week or so for my colors at the earliest. I still have Megaman, Roll, and Shuma to do lol.

Whose Mix was it?

At SBIII, Preppy taped a match between Yipes and Sanford, both using reverse ROW. It looked like Bay6 colors, but whose music was it? They played on the Ship stage mostly, and the music there fit the battle really well.

Does anyone know what music they used on that stage?

Can someone help? I’m stuck here:

*Alright, you will now burn the “audio.raw” file to a blank CD. The file is a 6 second audio track that needs to be burned before you continue.

But first we need to find out what your SCSI # for your CD drive. To find out what it is run the following command from a DOS Prompt: cdrecord -scanbus . This should show you a list of CD-ROM and CD-Recorder units installed in your system. Look for your CD-Recorder and find the SCSI Bus ID#. It will be in format x,x,x, write this number down for later.*

I opened up the command prompt, typed in cdrecord -scanbus, but it says it is “not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.”

what is not recognized? cdrecord? or -scanbus.

I’m guessing it’s saying: ‘cdrecord’ is not recognized etc. etc.

did you change the directory to where the cdrecord file is?

catchy like the HIV virus

I figured that part out but now I made a coaster

It just keeps looping back to the Dreamcast logo. I followed the instructions exactly.

did you replace the ip and 1st read bin? and it could be your doing something wrong with making the iso in cdrwin

If you mean this part, I did that:
*
Great, now “cut” and “paste” your “1st_read.bin” back into your “data” folder. Leave the “ip.bin” file where it is! *

thats wrong, there is an extra ip bin in the selfboot that you copy and paste into the data folder

Many Thanks!!

So the part that tells you to leave the ip.bin in selfboot, you should actually copy it back to data? I only see one ip.bin file in selfboot.

copy the ip bin thats in the selfboot and paste it into the data

Bah, still doesn’t work. I give up. Wasted 3 discs already.

then your probablly messing up making the iso

Only if you’re trying to be nice to others re-packing your stuff. Having an actual file called ‘IP.BIN’ on the disc doesn’t affect booting at all. (I seem to recall it actually BREAKING some of my selfboots, but its been awhile.) If it helps any, the original Echelon tutorial for selfbooting DC games was very clear to NOT leave the IP.BIN file on the disc.

Then you didn’t follow the instructions exactly. I never understood the point of saying this, instead of saying what you actually did. Cut ‘n’ pastes of the command line window if you went that way, screen shots. Something usefull. If you had followed the instructions exactly, it’d work.

#1. Get a CD-RW and a copy of your emulator of choice. If you’re worried about wasting CD-R’s, stop using CD-R’s until you know what you’re doing.

#2. Is it the Sega logo (non-animated, after the DC logo) you get stuck at, or the Dreamcast logo? If its at the Sega logo, then the good news is you did most of it right. The Sega logo comes up if the DC sees the second session and the IP.BIN that your inserted into the second session ISO. But, if it doesn’t go any further, then the problem happens either with the loading of the 1st_read.bin (1st_read isn’t in the root of the disk, or is binhacked to the wrong LBA, or wrong 1st_read.bin) or the running of the 1st_read.bin (the rest of the game files are there in the directory).
Most likely you muffed up the part binhacking the 1st_read.bin or in the command line switches you used for mkisofs.

eidrian whats the current update on the list?

i just discovered a buddy of mine has the fat ps2 with the network adapter in it. it also has 2 USB ports. if it’s possible to connect a harddrive to the network adapter with a copy of the custom game on it, is it also possible to plug in a mobile harddrive into a USB port? a thumbdrive with a couple gig on it or a bigger one with a USB cable? just curious…
