People like what they like. That doesn’t make them assholes.
However, I wish more of them would give items a chance for EVO’s sake. If EVO ends up being the most useless items tournament for getting item play data just because so few people showed up, that would be terribly disappointing.
Trust me. They were assholes, and it will be a disappointment.

Melee was much more fun without items, Brawl…not so much.
Melee is better than Brawl when it comes to depth and balance…but does that honestly matter? People are going to still play Brawl, regardless.
That said, I prefer Brawl, simply because I prefer Brawl. I like the characters added, and I like the slowed down pace. I still have fun with it. I still have fun with Melee, just Brawl is funner to me.

In the end, personally, I don’t think it’s a very good competitive fighter. In my opinion a bunch of the game mechanics are really poorly thought out, like fully invincible/unthrowable spot dodges and rolls, multiple air dodges, the fact that item spawning locations are virtually everywhere instead of in just a few spots, and the smallness of the characters’ attack ranges. Not to mention, I think a few of the characters could use more than a slight retooling.
In my opinion it has the potential to be a very interesting game about controlling space and strategic points on varied stages, but I don’t think it lives up to that at all. And unfortunately there’s no way Nintendo will ever really sit down and make it so.
so why not melee instead of brawl for now?, most of the people isnt happy with brawl anyway…i mean most of the pros want melee not brawl, why you care so much about casual players? they didnt make this game, they dont even dedicated as much, so why not make them happy and end with all this discussion?. Brawl is a new game and it needs time.
Because they want to keep winning.
Because this is their first ‘new’ game or ‘updated’ game since becoming competitive players.
Because they feel it is less fun.
None of these reasons make Brawl any less competitively viable, on any settings.
There also exists no reason why Melee, Diet-Brawl, and All-Brawl cannot coexist.
I think Brawl is competitive but I also feel like the tiers have gotten actually worse than Melee. Snake and MK will dominate, forever. I’ve got kinda bored with is as of late. It’s competitive but not in a fun way. I’m probably dropping out of the race, but I’ll still play from time to time. I’m just sick of online play and not being able to do anything about f.tilt mashing snakes and not being able to punish stuff on block or things like spot dodges / air dodges without like…crazy timing and anticipation.
even despite the fact that Snake and MK are top of the top tier, I’m still fighting against them regardless. I don’t have too many problems with snake other than MK. Then again I’m pretty stubborn…that’s probably one of the reasons that drives me to continue making Sonic as best as he can be.
xsamuraix, why don’t you just play people in person, then? Raleigh used to have one of the hottest smash scenes between VA and FL and you’re complaining about not having people to play with? I’m sorry but suck it up and head to smashboards. Most of the Raleigh ppl don’t like brawl, but the one who hosts the only big NC tournaments likes it and I’m sure you can find people to play with not online that live within 10 minutes driving distance.
oh, and samurai, I agree with you about the tiers being way unbalanced in brawl. The fact the metaknight can win tons of matches with just tornado and d-smash and snake only needs grenades, f-tilt and u-tilt to beat most of the cast is disgusting.
Replace Sonic with Jigglypuff and this is about where I stand too. Hell, not just Jiggly, but Captain Falcon too.

Its absolutely NO worse than fighting vs Chun or Yun or Ken in 3s. I actually think my odds are better in brawl.
This is stupid. BOTH SIDES ARE BEING ONE SIDED, THAT IS WHY THERE ARE SIDES TO THE ISSUE AT ALL. nobody is being an asshole by not showing up for a tourney that has rules they don’t enjoy. If there was a clique of people who thought that deadbody infinites and the gambit glitch were the epitome of marvel skill and normal people didn’t go to their tournament, would those abstainers be assholes? No, it is just a personal preference and having a preference doesn’t make you an asshole.

They’re damn good, but they are no where even close to unbeatable. Let’s take the most recent Melee scene where only like 3 people out of the cast have a chance to beat each other for top spot. For fuck’s sake, Fox has a one frame move that punishes, interrupts, gives guaranteed smashes and grabs, gimps the hell out of most people, and on top of all that it can’t really be punished. I’m sorry but if you’re trying to compare tornado or snakes tilts to shine then you are insane.
Tornado can be interrupted by a variety of moves and can be punished as well. Snakes tilts, I agree, are ridiculous…but that doesn’t mean they can’t be shielded then punished. I’m flabergasted (fun word) when someone argues that spot dodging, rolling, or multiple air dodges are broken and unnecessarily invincible. If you have any notion of intelligent play as opposed to being purely technical (hell, even if being purely technical) you’ll realize that rolls are extremely vulnerable, airdodge into ground is vulnerable, in between airdodges, and after spot dodges.
I almost had no chance fighting a Marth as my Ness in melee, even if he wasn’t great. But now I actually have a chance against Snake and Metaknight with supposedly one of the worst characters in the game. I’d call that a step up.\ in balance.

Im not saying that brawl and melee cant coexist because they do its just that melee should be in the roster and not brawl… pros dont care about loosing cause theyll kick your ass anyway, i mean we still see kdj, m2k, azen, cort, etc…
