Competitive or not

All your post told me is that when you play the game casually against shitty people you don’t care if you win or not. dodging/shields is part of the rock paper scissor formula. God damn it’s like you don’t even know throws or baiting people exist.

Go back to playing your scrub friends, really that one thing you said explains your entire mindset of this game.

Also, physical sports do not always trump mental sports. They demand two different things but can easily be compared to each other. Really, if you were running hurdles against someone with a sprained ankle and you won you wouldn’t feel shit (except maybe bad for the other person). If you ran hurdles against someone equal to or slightly higher than your skill level then the win would matter much more. Same shit goes on in video games.

I said it wasn’t a perfect analogy. But if I had to break it down like that (which you had asked me to do) then that’s how it is. I’m a very grabby person in brawl anyways.

I like how you guys all like to misconstrue everything I sa. It’s my opinion alright, I’m not presenting it as facts, rather observations. I’ve also brought forth information that supports my opinion, and I could care less if it changes the way anyone thinks.

That’s how this thread started, a simple, yet very subjective question was asked. I gave my personal answer and you rabid weasels all started gnawing on my legs. So I shook my leg a little “Git off me!” but no, you guys just keep gnawing and gnawing.

Yes, I have been rather trollish, but I don’t see any reason not to. No one had made a post directed at me that wasn’t passive aggressive until after I started responding in kind.

So you’ve spoken your opinion DropOff. Need we hear it another 6 times?

Oh, what? They’re not comparable because you “say so”? Not good enough.

What are you, autistic or something? It’s a colloquialism that means “you’re fucking dense”.

Christ, all you’ve done is shout “MAN BRAWL IS SO SIMPLE HAVE FUN PLAYING FAGGOTS” over and over.

“Why are all these people typing all these words at me all I did was post in a discussion thread”

:stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t care if the guy gives an opinion. He should be able to uphold it, not defend it like a stubborn jackass

I change my stance. Brawl “IS” competitive, it’s just that I simply prefer Melee.

Seems to me that brawl is inherently a party game that many people want to be a competitive game. I don’t mean that to be insulting, but just look at all the talk about which stages can be used, what items to allow, or even whether items should be allowed at all for competitive play.

It may be difficult getting people to agree upon a ruleset, but I suppose brawl can be considered a competitive game. I’m not sure that’s what the games developers had in mind though.

I don’t get all the short bus hate. I rode on a short bus every day in middle school and there was not a single “special” kid on the bus. It was just a short bus cuz only five of us lived close together. short bus =/= stupid kids.

Fuck this thread. It was doomed from the start.

Well I was thinking of creating a similar thread but was too scared that I’d get flamed for making it.

Anyway from my experiences of this question people who say that Brawl sucks usually jusitify their reasons by comparing it to Melee like saying “Brawl is missing Wave Dashing and has Tripping” and what not. But you can make anything sound crappy like that. To me it seems that die-hard Melee fans just want to poop all of this game because they are angry that this addition of the series isn’t how they pictured. I see this similar to Super Turbo fans vs. Third Strike fans.

I actually think it’s fun without items but that’s just me.

It’s not just the missing techniques. It’s the fact that there’s an imbalance in the game’s mechanics. Being offensive has much higher risk involved in Brawl thanks to the amazingly fast sheild-drop and the lack of L-cancelling.

People say Melee was all technique, but I say that’s false. I play Melee regularly, and knowing the techniques alone doesn’t mean anything, same as in MvC 2. Since I play 3S as well, here’s an easier example for me to make: Knowing every single technique with Fox is equivalent to knowing every single Yuncorner Genei-Jin combo in 3rd Strike(including character-specific ones: It doesn’t help you unless you know when and how to use it.

But the biggest ST fans, also help run the biggest Third Strike events, and have always supported (or at least not interfered with) other people running events. When there is a oppourtunity to grow the competitive scene, it benefits everyone, regardless of our personal opinions on the game itself.

For instance in poker, many people disliked the rise of holdem’, but with all the extra players and money, they were able to hold what they considered to be the true championship (H.O.R.S.E.), at 5 times the buyin (and 5 times the prize money). Had they boycotted the new scene, that would not have been possible.

Brawl is completley a competitive game, just not a very fun one imo. I grew out of competitive brawl in 2 months

I still got dat Ganon though:lovin:

P.S. Not whining, but why the hell would brawl be at EVO over GG?

Because it’s far more popular.

not in this fighting game community.

True. Very strange decision. However, I gues they’re trying to get people from the Smash community to go to Evo, especially considering how big the Smash audience is. I don’t know if the presence will be as big with the whole “Brawl vs. Melee” debate, though.

I guess you didn’t hear about the Guilty Gear incident huh? The main reason why Guilty Gear didn’t get in this year was because the finalist were late for their matches last year. That pretty much shafted the community, and I often wonder if Guilty Gear would have had a better turnout( with the release of AC). I thought this thread was to be dead and buried by now…

Good. Who needs one sided assholes at EVO? I hope its a big turn out considering it replaced GG.
