Competitive gaming is stupid?

:rofl::rofl::tup:

Thanx for all the “go to the other forums and talk shit there” responses. That really proved anything.

Now anyway, lets look at this again

And look at the topic title

and look at some past discussions.

“Comparing sports to games” (Covered on Page 3)

If you ask me, the guy was simply answering the thread maker’s question posted within the thread title and with that added details of the sports aspect which was in heavy debate on page two-three. And from what I can tell the responses to his post have been nothing but “you dont have a life” or “you’re nothing but a dungeon kid who spams alot”

Now I haven’t really looked at Heero’s posting history but this specific post did not require the “troll” label from some of you guys thus far. It’s ridiculous.

Right now I could care less about who I piss off, but seeing so many people go at each other’s throats over what ONE person said makes me think that maybe competitive gaming isn’t as great as you guys make it out to be, because all of this fuss is not necessary. One guy’s opinion. Alright…

I decided to pm him about the videos he posted and why on some of them he deleted comments.

Me: "Neofcon, this isn’t a flame or w/e, but I have a few questions to ask you.

  1. why did you decide to make an entire video rather than a blog to describe your opinions on competitive gaming? And was this meant to be a flame bait on SRK?

  2. Were you serious about your “how to use shoto’s” vid? How in the hell do you think thats how you use shotos!?

  3. Do you really play that terribly on SF3 or was it your recording lagging it?

  4. Why do you delete comments? Do you hate criticism?

  5. Why did you make that vid based on what some guy said on wikipedia?

  6. ARE YOU INSANE!? There’s plenty of gaming events on tv regarding tournaments!

Him

"1. I assume blogs are boring for people to read (then again text vids are about the same with more waiting time :P), and for your other question, no this was not meant to attract SRK, but if you’re talking about that one vid I made, what I did was go to my vid comments box and saw over 75 comments. Most of them were…you already know, and it’s like 2 months late for it to get attention, then I saw one of the comments saying “lol you must’ve been pwned by SRK” or some shit like that. Then I thought they actually found the vid (considering those guys are huge competitive gaming addicts), so I checked out their forums, and found a thread all about that vid, so I decided to fuck with them since they were so nice to get me more views on my channel. Well that vid’s gone cause it’s pointless to keep it up anymore as im sure no one cares anyway (cept srk)

  1. This was for newbs, not pros, if you watched the beggining you will see that I was refering to many Ryu players who practically spam hadoukens and Shoryukens like no tomorrow. So if anyone took offense, remember it’s not “for pro’s” to look at. If pro’s thought I needed to put in advanced techs or w/e, just remind them that newbs dont catch on that quickly. When it comes to slow paced games like Street Fighter and such, you can’t really spam attacks in succession unless you used V-ism and the balance is blown straight to hell. It gets under my skin that one of the greatest characters of all time is played so shitty by many players. Thats basically my deal. Sure im not any better (well actually I am or else I wouldn’t make that vid) but spamming attacks isn’t going to win anything anytime soon. You gotta use a variety of moves, not just a fireball.

  2. It’s wonderful that many people assume im terrible based on ONE character I used in a game vid. This one guy commented that I was the worst player ever because he only say one of my 3 SF3 vids. Now to be honest I haven’t gotten quite used to SF3 considering that it’s emulation was only very recent so the mechanics im not used to, and the recording lagged at some parts (the ken fight mostly) so really don’t expect anything great to come of them. When those emulators get better recording ill do more SF3 vids. My Alex is shit as of now but that ain’t shit compared to my Yang :P. Now if you’re from SRK and is already labeling me as the worst game player ever, stop looking at one vid and using it as a gauge for my overrall skills for all games. That would be quite ignorant (then again, this is srk we’re talking about).

  3. Im sorry that I dont accept “lol you suck” or “you’re stupid lulz” comments, and thats what 95% of those comments on my Competitive gaming vid contained. Hell if you look now, you’ed even see some comments that are negative towards my vid but isn’t complete bullshit like what half the morons that posted. So don’t confuse me with people like trevor reiger or whoever YTwatchdog owned.

  4. Ill admit, the egotism of smashboards gets under my skin once in a while, first they have retarded rules, then declare that they are the best things since sliced bread because they had corporate sponsored tournaments, and then the big tip “the competitive scene is what DEFINES whats smash bros is today!” So im thinking, no items, 5 stages, and 3 characters, is what defines smashbros? It’s pathetic that wikipedia’s gamer pages are being over run by tourney pricks who believe every page should list tiers or advanced techs or rules to tournaments (like casual gamers really give a flying fuck). Wikipedia’s game pages is not a page for people to fuel their ego’s about who won this tournament or w/e. It’s specifically info about the video game and what not. Oh well, nothing can be done since those asswipes locked those articles too or list that “removal of those articles will be considered vandalism” or some shit

  5. and how often do you see that on digital cable?

Exactly, hench why I made the comment."

Ill pm him again about that last question, but I can see where he’s coming from with those points…

Great, so you make an assumption and then declare that you have not watched anything other than one of his game vids?

God damn some people here are more stupid than at smashboards…

Hmmm…

It seems you based all of your opinions of the fighting game community. Although i hate to say this but the FGD makes up about 5% of what the competitive gaming scene is in a professional manor. Its funny that none of your comments have to do with the PC scene which makes up the other 95% of YOUR topic and arguement. I believe until you see all of views of YOUR topic and do some research you might have a better chance of having a decent conversation.

Good luck with your arguement although i must say no one will prob take an 07 member named “Crap” with any seriousness.

Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeatttt. The year I join on a message board dictates importance. Especially when considering most of your argument has little to nothing to do with what I talked about or even read what I posted and went on with the assumption that I was dissing the competitive community.

This is possibly the best explanation reguarding the difference in “Pro sports” and “competative (for a very small few, pro) gaming” that has ever graced the internet. You hit the nail on the head in two small paragraphs.

Something people have a difficult time with is imagining what the past was like and what the future could be like. “Pro Athletes” in baseball, football, or basketball did not always make millions. In the late 1800s, when pro baseball began, baseball players weren’t wealthy. It wasn’t until they became folk heroes, and large stadiums (like Yankee Stadium) were built that owners could afford to pay their players relatively good money. Gaming may always be a sub-culture. But, few people in 1920 imagined that a man could earn 25 million dollars (whatever the 1920 equivalent was) as a baseball player. Who knows, maybe in a 100 years, a non athletic “sport” such as video gaming or poker (probably poker first) will have players earning Alex Rodrigez money.

Since you are new (or at least, you seem to be new), I’ll offer some friendly advice first, and be a dick later. A mistake I used to make when i was new to fighting game forums was making huge ass novella length posts. They were often packed with good points, but no one wants to read the long stuff. Case in point, FMJaguar made his point (and a damn good one) in probably less than 300 words (I didn’t count :arazz: ). Another example is your above post. It might have some enlightening stuff, but I damn sure didn’t read it. I have better things to do, like sleep, pet and feed my kitten, or talk to my girlfriend. It was just too long.

Second, I did read one paragraph. If you want people to take you serious, you should check your facts and watch your wording. You discussed how a wikipedia page upset you. Where is it? Because the Wikipedia pages for the Smash Bros series and the article specifically on SSB:Melee say nothing about touranement rules. The SSB:Melee does give a very brief history on the smash tournaement scene. But nothing about Shiek, Marth, Fox, only 5 stages in touraments.

Your right i did missunderstand the question. I do not think you have to put the title of “sport” onto anything for it to be competitive. Just a solid community. May it be 10.000 people or 2. I mean every “Sport” was started by a bunch of people that were bored. Look at curling.

On the historical note. I believe pride and history do come in to play to the word sport and competition. Maybe the greek history could teach us something. They seem to have grabbed an edge on the concept before anyone else. As they didnt play for anything except pride.

Actually let me correct myself.

Your post quality, content, length (refer to above poster), reputation (not green bars) and overall demeanor and interaction with other members of this board dictactes importance. Your Join date if anything just represents that you might be new to the community and may not know what is appropriate, accepted, and what is not.

Sorry double post

Can you people READ!?

Those things came from HIM, not me

I swear, ACTUALLY READ THE DAMN THING before making assumptions

sheesh…Long or not, you can’t go on the assumption without actually reading all the details before responding.

About that five stages bit however…

crap’s reputation says that he needs to go die in a fire, lol the worst I have seen.

Competitive gaming ain’t stupid. If you’re good at playing certain competitive games why not pursue it rather than deny it.

I’ve seen this video. I actually, for the lulz, frequent the Fighting Game Forum on Gaia Online. Most of the newcomers there say that if you play as any of the following characters in their respective games:
Fox
Chun-Li (3S of course)
Sentinel
Storm
Cable
Magnus
Blanka (CvS2)
and a few others…then you’re cheating. I can quote one of them word for word:
"That’s not playing and that’s not winning. You have no honor if you play 3S as Chun-Li and call yourself a good player."
Despite all the stupid-ness, Gaia actually has some pretty happenin’ regulars on their FGD. But the fun comes from trolling there. The mods are so shitty that you run almost no risk of getting caught telling some emo kid to kill themselves.

Thanks for your insight into the nature of fighting game discussion and trolling on the Gaia Online Forums, Lobelia Boy. It made for fascinating reading.

signs up for gaia

Everything is stupid even your face. I dont go around telling people sports is stupid even though I think it is a waste of time trying to go pro in sports, hardly anyone gets picked for the nba or nfl

who really gives a shit

let’s let this one just die.
