Since SRK has a wiki, I can’t really say that wiki’s are bad sources of information. If you write something out of line, your page will be reverted and/or redited by people that will do the fact-checking.
If we’re going to be like that, who is your teacher? He can say whatever he wants, and unlike wiki, who’s gonna fact check him, the class? Does that make him a bad source of information?
He could say he almost has a doctorate, but does everyone with a doctorate agree? Isn’t their research disproven and reworked constantly?
You just have to know the limits, wiki is not the place to go if you need something above and beyond what the average person will care about. But to imply that it’s some place where you can post anything and noone ever checks it is irresponsible, I would expect better from someone that claims to be educated.
I was reading this thread and I was surprised my name was mentioned lol.
The problem mainly is when some people that dont go to tournaments claim they are “above and beyond” those players that go to tournaments and prove themselves.
I for one have no problem with people that dont have competition.
I for one dont really have competition in my area…so I am about the most hardcore believer in the world that you can be good at home!!
I am a homegrown assassin!!!
I break down being successful into this-
50% Knowledge- Match Vids, forums, info anyway possible , being at home, taking your own game to a high level, dominating your area (locals)
49% Experience- Professional tournaments like Majors not locals in your friends backyard!!
1% Luck- In the highest caliber of play, luck is needed!
Now dont take this the wrong way, this is just what I’ve noticed that has brought me success.
Competitive play has elevated my skill astronomically…
But it goes back to once again what goals do you have?
Not everyone wants to be US/World Champion like me see.
As long as everyone respects those that are out there playing in tournaments I dont think a problem will arise between those that do not!!

why do posts have to be reviewed?
Competitive gaming= people do it for fun.
if you think it’s stupid= cool.
YOU CAN ONLY WIN IF YOU PLAY IN TOURNEYS= stupid.
you dont go to college do you? I know people who go to college and have to use wikipedia as a resource. People will always go to tournaments to win and have fun theres nothing you can do about it but complain.
Only way to get better is to play like the best or lose like the rest.
How old is your english teacher? People with degrees, even post masters or phd’s are not infallible. Perhaps he won’t accept it in his class, but the information on wikipedia is almost always correct. If someone edits something, it gets reviewed by a staff, and will be rolled back if its incorrect. I can’t link any sources at the moment, but I believe wikipedia has been compared with more conventional encyclopedia’s and has proven to be at least as accurate. I challenge you to find any articles on there with blatantly wrong information that stays that way for more than 5 minutes.
For you to disregard wikipedia as a valid source of information just based on theoretical grounds is kind of lazy. Consider all the bias that could make its way into conventional encyclopedia’s through its limited author and editor base. Its entirely possible someone could spin something written in a real encyclopedia, and then no one can edit it until the next edition.
Anyone can fuck up wikipedia, but there is a safety net that keeps the honest intelligent people doing the real fine tuning, and the jerk offs from having any affect, in case you didn’t know.
What’s it matter Carbine and Final Boss always win anyways…
I mean, oh-yeah, and then Daigo parried all of it.
Wikipedia actually has employees. A friend of mine’s father is a fact-checker/editor on Wikipedia.
So how many pages can we expect today?
lol vid is hilariously bad…
I recently earned my college degree. I’ll be earning another one in the next few years. I had to write several argumentative research papers in order to obtain the one I have. Had I cited Wikipedia as a source, the grades I got for those papers would have been greatly reduced, for lack of reliable sources.
I don’t know who these college students are who use Wiki and get credit for it, but I guarantee you they’re not telling the teacher where they got their info. If they are, then that says more about the standards of your institution than the quality of Wikipedia’s facts.
If a piece of misinformation makes it onto Wikipedia, it might remain there for five seconds or five weeks. Not every article is heavily policed and bad information can be easily found–from Eddie Van Halen’s amp settings to the allegedly theoretical nature of lupus. Currently, no responsible academic would accept Wikipedia as a source, because no matter how quickly errors can be pounced upon, there is absolutely no guarantee that the information you’re getting is legit.
Wikipedia is good if you’re searching for information for your personal use, but it isn’t trustworthy for anything beyond that.
Huh? I’m confused as to the actual point of this video. It seems completely unprovoked, and utterly pointless. Did he make this whole video because he was pissed off at some better players? He is doing nothing but generalizing the whole competitive community off of simply his own experiences. It is completely irrational to label all pro players as assholes, just because he had a few bad run ins.
He sounds like nothing more than a poor smash player who got his spirit broken. So he decides to make a video labeling everyone else as the badguy’s to salvage whats left of his pride.
C’mon is he honestly trying to tell me that if I’m a better player who invests more time into the game, that I don’t really know much more about the game than the average player? Well thats some BS.

bitchezzzzzzzzzzzzz
edit: i see this ending well
Oh hell…
Ideally, the wiki page will cite sources and then you can go fact check yourself and cite the original source. This has nothing to do with the validity of the information, just the type of source it’s coming from.
As an aside, I’m not suprised that colleges would hate on free information, instead of just explaining how to use those resources properly.
you’ve got to be kidding me.
Hey, at least we know this guy has an SRK account. And I watched his Ryu tutorial vid, I 'ed. That was the absolutely worst fighting game tutorial vid I have ever seen on the net, or anywhere else.
/ baited??
:wonder:
What’s this fagnanny’s point anyway, I didn’t bother to watch the whole thing cause…well…he was arguing about Smash Bros…
