Comp. Pokemon Thread MK2: Let's Go Back To Kanto Like Everyone Wanted!

The only issue with rocks are the 4x weak mons to rocks. We’ve gotten incredibly strong pokemon that are weak to rocks that still wreak havoc (zard y and volcarona are good examples)

Rocks is important as it helps games move quicker. You dont remember that abr vs tele match that lasted 9 hours or some shit? That was all because SR pp was used up super early so they could switch all willy nilly. SR prevents this and creates good pressure. Also setting up SR gives the opponent a free turn to do whatever. The hazards themselves arent the issue, the lack of viable hazard removal is though. There really isnt any removal option That’s really splashable or failsafe like we have with toxapex or lando setting up hazards. Giving us more good options will help in the long run

Types arent created equal. Just like all characters in a fighting game arent either. Yes we wouldn’t mind a buff to the ice typing or a nerf to fairy typing but it is what it is. Types are very finnicky as you could make certain types that struggle worse (like your ice to now resist fighting would) or break other things (like buffing rock types could put ttar over the edge). I think having Ice types resist water and fairy would do a lot but we all know…trollfreak.

One thing I’d like to see is more Bug moves/abilities that make them feel buggier. U-Turn is a good start, but there’s more that could be done to give them that annoying scuttly hard-to-kill vibe. Think a reverse Dig, where the mon deals damage first then becomes untouchable for the turn, or even just Pound+Protect without priority. I imagine there’s a bunch of tweaking that needs to be done to make this not oppressively broken, but it’s a step up from the just-another-fighting-type that they are now.

Also, give Poison a terrain or weather. Because screw Fairy.

Infestation and Lunge are pretty “bug-like” attacks.

Bug bite and bug buzz too

US and UM are out, and as is tradition I am updating the banlist. If it ain’t Regular Necrozoma it’s banned.

To echo what Bious said, but for Pokemon Showdown, the new pokemon apparently all just got updated to the server just now already. So for those of you who play Gen 7 OU (or Ubers), have at it.

The new moves appear to be updated as well, at least if a causal check of Kommo-o and Bewear is any indication, though I’m sure there will be some snags along the way as always.

(You may now return to your regularly scheduled pettiness and bitching.)

Time to spam Stakataka

Oh boy, can’t wait to see what gets banned next!

Maybe we can shoot for ultra scrubbiness and ban Smeargle for being “impossible to predict”…

I always had an idea for a Bug type Flare Charge move called Scuttle, with the same BP but less distribution. Primarily for many-legged bug-like Pokémon, so no, Scizor and Heracross wouldn’t learn it. lol

Lunge and Bug Buzz: No and no. It takes more than just some damage and a minor debuff to be considered bug-like because otherwise every other type would qualify. Infestation and (to a lesser extent) Bug Bite are more in theme of what I’m looking for. Or a Buggy Mud-Slap.

(How did “have at it” become “have it”? Ugh. So many typos yesterday.)

Speaking of Lunge, it still annoys me that even post-Ultra, Escavalier, the bug pokemon with a fucking lance, still doesn’t get Lunge. Like always, I can’t tell whether Gamefreak is more that big of a huge troll or just incompetent.

They’re a huge troll

What is the consensus in the competitive play or strategy?

Using one or two UU’s in an primarily OU team is okay right? As long as they correlate with whatever the player is trying to do (Baton Passes, set-ups, stat boosting, use of Mega forms, etc).

… That might have been too broad of a question…

Make the best team you can for the meta you play in.

It’s okay to use UU pokes or lower in the OU tier, in fact some pokes that arent OU are still viable (like Gastrodon) but dont use something like Krookodile as a defensive ground type pivot when Landorus-T does the same thing but better.

If it’s legal, use it. If your friends want to have baton pass legal, show no mercy and make them hate you forever

It’s possible the move’s name in Japanese has a different meaning. Gonna find out now.

Edit: The move is called tobikakaru, which is often translated as “lunge”, but a more apt description for it is a leaping strike. I don’t imagine Escavalier does a whole lotta leaping, so it’s just a case of a move not translating 100% accurately.

Noted, though I still think Escavalier would be more worthy of getting Lunge than goddamn Volbeat and I say this as someone who likes both pokemon decently enough.

Oh well. No big deal given Gamefreak’s shoddy track record for “logic”.

looks at Vikavolt

I’m thoroughly convinced most of Alola’s new mons were added to make Trick Room more viable in doubles.

Hence “don’t bring your Fairys around me” Stakataka… Thing even sets up it’s own Trick Room.

I’ve been seeing players having problems with Trick Room Stakataka on Showdown. Most teams are still lacking good fighting moves and Lando-T doesn’t really work if it’s already worn down as a lead.

Stakataka isnt the hot garbage i thought it was. It has a niche on trick room teams but probably wont be OU, maybe a nice UU mon. It hits hard as Fuck

Nagandel i hear is bonkers. Basically run weavile and heatran or lose. This seems like a candidate for a possible suspect testing lol. Too fast and strong with good coverage. Silly beast boost

I havent seen much of blacephelon but i hear good things. Fast and strong without being over bearing. Just nagandel is a stupid NP sweeper which is probably hurting this right now

The rest are already uber or unreleased so got nothing on them.

Even Nidoking can OHKO Stakataka, I just don’t see anything useful about it.
