I thought it was well within the dynamic range of a show that has, at various times, transformed into a claymation Christmas special, a spaghetti western, and a Scorsese-esque crime story.
lol that space ship looked so red dwarf.
I’m not arguing whether it works with teh dynamic set forth, my concern is more in the execution of said dynamic. It was lacking in a way that seems to be (based solely on two pieces of data) becoming standard for the post-hiatus Community. Was it funny? Yes, it had it’s moments, but to me, it points to a trend (once again, based solely on 2 episodes) that is sliding into places I would hope a show like Community would avoid crossing. I could just be over thinking it, I have been accused of that in the past…
The lag on this MLG stream…
In my observation, Community tends to go through cycles of big, broad episodes and small, subtle ones, so we’ll see how your prediction plays out. Given the Troy/Abed moment at the end of this one, I would guess that they’re preparing something a little more character-driven.
But like I said, we’ll see.
Don’t mistake my concern for criticism though, I still look forward to Community like no other show (except Mad Men of course)…
I can’t wait for Chang’s Army to take over the college like they showed in the previews! Also Britta warning Troy while moonwalking and going “HEAA HEAA!” had me dying. Also Britta mentioning all of Jeff’s flaws was hysterical! “You have an unusual high buttcrack!” WHAAAATT??? LOLOL!

Yeah, that cracked me up.
I see what I did there.
Dean falling down cracked me up.
Oh Dean, so funny.
question was the beginning of them coming back from break a reference to being off? my friend pointed out that the glee episode they came back from break then. is this considered a new season?
This is still season 3, if I remember right.
Glorious.

so is my friend wrong? did they come back from holiday break twice?
No. They came back from holiday break once. They talked about the new year.
LOL oh man such an epic episode! Can’t wait for part 2.
lol part 2? was that really a 2-parter? i thought they were just saying that. since its more or less like a long storyline.
i love any episode where i get derrick comedy appearances.
I’m not feeling the new style. All the subplots feel underdeveloped and the jokes don’t have the same impact when the each story is reduced to 2-3 people. It’s too bad, because some of these plots could be really funny on their own.
Tonight was serious redemption. Tons of good stuff. Going to give it another watch or two before I lay down final judgement, but early numbers are good.
Ok that episode was absolutely amazing. Definitely one of the best episodes of Community.
I hate to shill here, but my old buddy’s art collective PixelDrip (they’ve done live art for UGTL if you’re familiar with the SoCal scene) are fundraising for a Community-themed art show entitled Six Seasons and a Movie. Their Kickstarter page. Rewards for donating include a wallpaper, a documentary about the art show, and even actual art by the artists, depending on the amount of your donation. The art show will take place some time in summer 2012 in the Los Angeles area. If you want to donate they’d really appreciate it (and btw, their manager/art director didn’t ask me to shill, I just wanted to).
If you want to submit art visit the Submissions Guidelines and contact Mark Batalla at pixeldripgallery[@gmail.com. Digital submissions are open until April 29, 2012. If you’re in the greater LA area, the cut off for physical drop-off is May 27, 2012. So go ahead and support if you’d like, donate, submit art, or just come see the show when it opens up. Thanks a million.
Edit: And I have a feeling when the show opens, some of the cast members will show up… come on, Annie’s Boobs!
