Community: The Thread

YOU JUST PUNCHED A LADY BEE!

And yes, there are commentaries on every episodes. They are almost all good. The only annoying thing about season 1 commentaries is the twitter question crap.

Donald Glover is very funny in the season 2 commentaries, but sadly there is no sign of annie because I think she was busy making Mad Mens. That is very sad because on the few Mad Men commentaries she is on she is very funny.

They need to stop using the Nielsen rating system. It’s old and does not represent the modern television audience.

^Community getting a Law & Order type episode with the DUN DUN sound byte!

Not trying to be snarky, but what should they start using? I’ve heard for years the Nielsen is kind of outdated.

I just want to see this get a 4th season. Need closure.

It’s outdated and does not really truly represent an accurate picture of the TV viewing community. I don’t know what the alternative is, but you would think in this digital age, especially with DVRs, we could create a more accurate system by which shows viewing audiences are judged.

Fun fact: TV networks used to measure ratings simply by how many people were watching. That was it. The whole programming by demographics thing didn’t start until they tried to cancel Star Trek. The audience outcry was so vociferous (mind you, this was in the late 1960s) that they kept the show on the air. That was when the networks realized the value of shows that didn’t necessarily get people watching from episode to episode, but inspired a rock-solid following that would stay with the show in perpetuity.

And I believe that’s still the programming method used today. If TV was around for a whole two decades before they realized that they could invent a better way to measure ratings, then surely after 40 years there might possibly be a better way, waiting to be grabbed out of the realm of ideas.

EDIT:

I rewatched “Feminism, Football, and You” today. I would argue that this was the first episode that established Community as an outright metafictional show, as opposed to a clever sitcom occasionally seasoned with metafiction. Ironically, Abed isn’t in this episode much… but, in true metafictional fashion, the show calls attention to his absence.

yes this archaic method is still used today. but once again campaigns save shows ie.chuck but also reruns/syndication save shows…i dont remember a campaign for family guy to come back…it was the crazy fuckin numbers they were doing on cartoon network as well as the crazy dvd sales.

boxsets are another important figure they seem to use.

Did anyone catch the Community last night? Oh wait…

un-like…

^_-;

Thank god for DVD sets. Parks was actually very good last night tho…

The internet is more for looking at pictures of naked guys ann.

Ann - What?

That made me laugh. Oh did I laugh.

When they kept restarting the music when they were crossing the ice…omg…

“You and I seem to have a philosophical difference as to what constitutes a ‘law’.” - it could only be Ron Swanson arguing with a police officer during a traffic stop

And now, I will demolish any remaining doubt that this show is absolutely brilliant.

Yeah. That’s the thing that got me interested in watching Community as a whole from the beginning. Found a whole new connect for streaming movies/TV shows to do it too. Both decisions have been working out grand so far.

nice vid. the few times I’ve watched that episode I’ve only ever notice the actual delivery, so it’s cool to see it all pointed out for me. soo genius haha.

Community is the closest thing to Arrested Development in it’s genius and appeal to TV nerds. Not surprisingly, the Russo brothers worked on both series.

I’m kinda surprised Ian Duncan hasn’t appeared this season yet. He was great! Hopefully when Community comes off it’s hiatus he’ll be back as well.

Yeah, I never noticed either the first time. Then when Abed talked about it during Applied Anthropology I went back and was amazed.
