Samurai Kirby
Stuff we didn’t play and need to play:
EXVANIA
Mario Hoops 3v3
LuckyDay, sorry you couldn’t get address. I’d have sent it but I didn’t think to check SRK day of the event to see if people still needed directions.
Hm, so Hitstun tells me that C-bus tried to open up an Arcade once but failed due to something about… property license? Call me crazy, but since I really have no other use for money(that I know of), if I ever got a job, I may consider buying a cabinet or two for a community arcade, if anyone else wanted to pitch in.
I’ve been talking to DJ San about this arcade idea, and I figure I’ll recap a lot of this stuff in this thread for everyone else. We’ve discussed opening an arcade a few times in previous Columbus threads, and the closest anybody got was Eikichi in the first thread who couldn’t find a suitable location to put his pool hall/arcade late last year.
It’s worth mentioning that in 2002-2003, our very own Avi helped run a LAN gaming center on High Street in Clintonville, and it started the Columbus fighting game community as we know it today, but a lack of business and maybe some internal issues led that to close after a year. He doesn’t talk about it much, but I’d ask for his advice about getting a business license and such.
Of course, we all like to talk about what games we want to see. A good Columbus arcade should have a current mainstream fighting game, 4-player beat-em-up that isn’t the Simpsons, a 4-player arcadey racing game, a good set of music games, some retro goodness, and a small redemption section. That has been discussed at length, but honestly there’s other things that we should take care of first.
The most important thing is retail space. It’s also the biggest financial investment, so it should be scouted out well before you start buying cabinets to put there. If it were me, I’d put it near other local businesses that gamers would visit. For example, Polaris has a new section with Rave Motion Pictures, Comic Town, a sushi place, a tea bar, and some empty space. It’s probably too expensive, but that’s the kind of stuff you should have near an arcade. There’s open retail space everywhere, so it just comes down to finding an accessible place with the right neighbors at the right price. A spot in a mall would get you lots of business, but it may be too expensive, even for a small arcade.
hate to go all marcell on ya but the cbus fgc was around far before lanlords. it was a fun place and i had a lot of good times there but i think yall are just blowin hot air up your own ass with this arcade thing. who the fuck wants to drive to polaris just to hang out and play? please lets concentrate on playing the games we got.
Just south of Henderson on High is my suggestion. Already has Play It Trade It, Laughing Ogre, The Soldiery, Sam’s Cue and Karaoke, and Columbus Martial Arts Supply. Also, two schools on Henderson and it’s right on the bus line.
My dream is to create a western version of Akihabara.
Dudes, I had fun with LanLords but it was a hassle man. You don’t even know. Only time we made money was with events and too many = none successful. Fighting games were around way before. Main difference between an arcade and someone’s place is no racing game cab, no pinball (which you didn’t even mention) and redemption stuff (and who in here would play/give a shit about that?).
Retro is totally playable on mame which several people have cabs or computer setups. We COULD play beat’em ups but we normally CHOSE not to even when they are available. Hell, I’ve got ASCs for Pop’n and IIDX so you can play that shit at my place if you were inclined. We have plenty of TVs and space here. Only thing missing is the entry fee.
I can charge you guys 5 bux to play here if you think it would help give you the arcade experience.
I don’t mean be discouraging but I’ve been in the gaming business a bit and its a pain in the ass and I just can’t see how you guys could make money or even break even doing this. The area you talking about is probably expensive as fuck for rent. You said you thought my advice might be useful so here it is.
Just play games. Go to GW if you wanna play a racing game.
You guys can talk all you want, but apparently you don’t read the newspapers very often, because getting a small business loan to do what you’re talking about doing is going to be fucking impossible right now.
And just to put it in perspective purchasing one of those new fighting games you’re talking about is going to cost you about the price of 10-15 of the games sitting in Arcade Legends right now.
Um. . .DS games for sale!!! I got dat Mario Kart DS, dat Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney, dat Bleach 1, dat Elite Beat Agents, and dat Lost Magic, and da Porno Bitches!!!
Seriously, anyone interested before I mail these out to strangers?
my dream is to design album covers
consider whatever this is my new dream.
Encouraging. |:
Hey, a guy can dream big can’t he? I’m not saying now would be a good time to start it instantly, but down the line when ** someone ** has saved enough pocket money, eh? You did mention winning the lottery, so if I were to win the lottery…
It’s a venue to note, but will buildings be available in the future?
There’s still alot of things to research, and perhaps by the time research is done, then the loans will be available by then. But until then, research has to be done.
Look, I apologize if talking about starting an arcade is a touchy subject, but the idea’s been floating in my head for quite awhile. Until a seed is planted, it’s simply a seed, and until this idea is actually put into concept, it’s still an idea. So, as I wrote earlier, I apologize if it’s a touchy subject.
On the other hand, anyone considering getting a DSi - Upgrade your Acekard2i first, if you’re getting it. My Acekardi just shat itself thanks to the 1.4 firmware update and I have to rely on a friend’s DSi to fix mines.
You’re in/from/around Columbus, right? You’re just going to give up a week from now to find another muse.
giving up is my new dream
Also, beat 'em ups are terrible.
