Columbia,SC:We Mashing Jab

I doubt that the seriousness will settle in for SSFIV or BBCS for that matter.

But I can honestly tell you there’s nothing more challenging than learning a new game (coughKOF2002UMcough), and we want more people playing KOF. I can teach you anything you don’t already know about it, and there are a good bunch of KOF players in Columbia.

I understand what you mean about competition being fun. I’m not exactly the same way, but I do enjoy improving, and challenges. Challenging yourself is always a good motivation. Last night in Gran Turismo 5, Zerog came over and went into a Drift test. I must have tried a billion times to get more than the 2928 points he got, and so I kept trying and improving and last night I hit 4400 points. I tried and retried it so much than his 2928 isn’t even on the board anymore.

(Sorry Zerog, I can get in the zone pretty easily lol)

Oh waht you don’t want to talk bout your tetris nightmares thomas?

In Canada, the KoF ( And Guilty Gear ) Scene was pretty large, so I used to be into KoF. That’s why if you were watching the streams of when David first had KoF at his house, I adamantly used Blue Mary ( Who can’t do anything >_> but I say that because of what I had to go through with her ) and Kula. My skill in that game deterriorated so much that I knew where I was messing up and felt bad for losing as much as I did. I got out of KoF when I came back stateside because I made a bad assumption and came to the conclusion that Columbia’s KoF scene would never reach the size and skill level of that in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Not to mention, I had just given up on fighting games as a whole, for the simple fact that when I was also gaming in Canada, I was also taking care of two children.

How dare you shamelessly plug your gaming scene, btw! lol

I want to believe in our scene. I -still- believe in our scene. but if shit doesn’t shape up ( including myself ) then I just may start doubting it. I support my scene, but I’ll never be able to support it as much as Jaguar or even SimpleKiss does. Though, the thought that there were people that cared about it MORE than I did gave me hope.

I won’t even get started about a certain incident that happened some time ago and how I felt about it. If Kid Viper were around, he’d know exactly what I was talking about.

EDIT: x.x That was a bad day, ben. I was so upset when I lost that many times. Then again, I’ve never been -really- good at tetris. Just decent. I never had any reason or ambition to get better.

Ahh man is that it you got to do better that that you know for a fact I can get close to 3500 on that first curve so as soon as I get the second curve I could easily get 5500-6000.

Oh and by the way I am bringing my 360 I swear I am gonna get that ramone combo off the wall to grab super. Also the other day we played how did you let me get crimson star road I admit I got lucky as hell with it to.

If people were trying to improve, I’d assume they’d ask.

I feel like I’m reading the same conversation from three threads ago.

:shake:

@ Thomas: If you really felt that bad about casuals, then you should have voiced your opinon earlier. It’s not gonna do much good if you keep holding that stuff in. As far this scene is concerned, I’ve seen almost everyone make an improvement from the beginning of the year up until now. Although everyone doesn’t progress at the same pace, I can still see the growth.

Also, there’s way too much of this kind of discussion on the forums. We see each other all the time, so I feel we should voice most of our concerns face to face.

Ok, so, I took a lot of time off work two weeks ago because I contracted the Flu. I took about 7 days of work off. Unfortunately, even with sick days, that ate almost all my vacation time up. So I’m going to be stuck here and wont’ see my folks this year. And I’m sorely disappointed.

Venue Update: I talked to my co-worker today about getting hooked up with a company for a discount. Here’s the thing. The Convention Center is going to want money down to have it secured. I won’t have the money to front them until January, but I plan on calling them tomorrow, anyways, to see what I can do.

Also, David, When I can, I want to schedule a day to go down to the convention center, probably on a weekend, and check out the room. I’ve already seen inside of the ballrooms and what they have to offer. but I’d definitely like to connect with the staff on site, and let you get a feel for what we’ll be working with. I’m not sure when this’ll be happening, but I’ll let you (and everyone else) Know about it. If other people want to check out the venue with us when I get it scheduled, you’re welcome to come with us.

Like I said, it probably won’t be anytime this month. But it depends on how much money the Convention Center wants up front to get the date/room reserved.

Update update: I’m looking at September 3rd

You’d assume wrong.

It’s not ME, but I could’ve sworn most people come to these to IMPROVE. It’s sort of obvious. If you already know everything, why bother? That’s how I see it. Because if it were just for the matches, XBox Live and PSN go a hell of a long way.

Again, that’s just me saying random things again. Take it as you will.

I don’t know which size we are taking about, but we can always shoot for a high skill level.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the bad assumption? That arcades existed here? I assumed the same when I came here too from Puerto Rico :frowning:

Yes, to those who haven’t figured it out, I’m Puerto Rican. No, not Jewish.

Also, the venue can provide a stage for $50. I’m going to look into how big it is, etc. but that could be a cool thing to have for us on site for the hype station.

oh, and by the way: columbiaconventioncenter.com is their website so check them out if you see anything that stands out to you that we should have.

I’ve also been thinking about putting together a wacky fundraiser tournament and I’ll give something of mine away to the winner, so I can raise money for part of the cost. It looks like it’s gonna cost another $150 to get a hard wire internet connection into the room for a stream. And I think we all want it streamed.

Also, David, I want to get a website up for the event, but I don’t know anything about web hosting whatsoever, do you have any suggestions, and once I get it together, do you think you can help with that? I’ll be paying for the hosting, etc. Obviously.

Gaming scene used to exist here VIA Putt Putt Fun Center. In the fighting game sense, it was Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Soul Calibur 2. We had some Tekken players, but not enough for it to be notable. I knew that community very well, since I got into the MvC2 scene through lots of trial and error. 2004 I moved to canada to start a family and got into a different gaming scene. ( KoF ) I kept in contact with friends at home and came to find out that Putt Putt had closed down and a lot of our ’ community ’ scattered, never to be seen again. That place was our gathering place and since I was young, I hadn’t known of anything else that existed to bring them together. When I came back home, I already had it in my mind that all traces of a fighter scene ( or gaming scene in general ) was dead. Putting the final nail in the coffin for me and fighters. AWA 2010 comes around and I find out that, even though it is small, there -was- a scene. Irony would have it, it consisted of people I knew directly and indirectly. I came home from Canada in 2008. So I was led to believe that our scene was dead for 2 years. If you include my time n Canada… then 5 years. I became out of pracitce in every game I played, even Marvel and it showed once I started gaming with everyone.

So that, Alex, is the bad assumption I had made.

Ah.

Well, you’re welcome to dust off the KOF part of your brain and join us. We have 2002UM on 360, I have every KOF, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (had the pleasure of being in Osaka when it and KOF XI were released for arcades) and Garou MOTW on PS2. Also XII on PS3, and as soon as the Japanese XIII is released I’ll have it. Also if you care, have every Samurai Shodown, Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury game, along with Real Bout Fatal Fury Dominated Mind. Although that last one is finicky.

Well until I can recover my Swap Magic discs (they’re mostly imports) I have the Orochi Saga and XI.

I’ve been dying to have a reason to play Garou again.

Unfortunately that’s one of the imports…

But yeah, let’s get some SNK love going here. All this :db: makes my head hurt.

Yo real talk, if I can help in any way from all the way up here in OH, let me know. I will definitely be coming as long as my school schedule at the time permits, and I’ll try to bring some of the better players from the scene up north here. This is what Columbia has needed for a while, a well-run, solid major tournament that will get the city some recognition in the scene. Props.

@ SimpleKiss: I should be free any weekend in January to see the venue and I’ll handle the website myself. I’ll try having it up by the end of January. I took a look at the venue online and it looks awesome! Now I can’t wait until we start doing fundraisers for it. Another good idea would be for us maybe have a qualifier tournament to help raise money too. It’s just a rough idea at the moment, but I’ll give you more details on it later.

We have this conversation every thread, lol. That’s why instead of complaining about it, I’ve started back hosting tournaments, having casuals when I can and letting the players decide for themselves how seriously they wanna take a game.

Getting back into KoF… I would like that a lot. Unfortunately, that is… for the moment, impossible.

It’s gonna sound cheesy, but like many other things I got into during my adulthood, KoF was something my wife and I got into together. Therefore, if I am going to pick up the game again, it’s going to be with her. That’ll happen when I am finally able to go back to Canada to be with the family I helped create. :stuck_out_tongue: Or vice versa.

So thanks for the advice and the offer. Hope you understand!

Ironically, my wife was also a Guilty Gear player. Though she was nothing special, she enjoyed that game more than any other fighter she’s ever touched. She had the drive to continue getting better.

Anywho, as for tomorrow at madness, I’ll be there depending on whoever will be willing to drive me there. I’m … expecting a lot. Also, if anyone that did participate in this not so friendly conversation has anything they want/need to say to me, then that would be a fine time to do so. Be warned… there is a good chance that you might hear something you don’t like.

On another note: I hadn’t any idea conversations like this existed in earlier threads. Forgive me, since this is my fault. I’ll make sure to speak only when it is relevent next time.

I own the import

hey so casuals this friday, yes?

i FINALLY got paid from a reality show I did two months ago, so if anyone wants me to bring a set up i can load kof and hdr on there and bring a set up. or we can have a super meat boy showdown
