Learn everyone’s slow lows. Learn crush moves. LEARN TO THROW BREAK IMPORTANT NUMBER ONE STEP TO WINNING TEKKEN.
Learning juggles and wall carries are very important too. I think tekken is different than st in one way. Think of these characters in both games as tool boxes. Sf characters have very specific tools that do certain things. In tekken, every character has a full tool box of moves that do a bit of everything. I love both games, but I think I’m better at tekken. If some one wants to get some games in(online or in person), message me.
Fuck this scneario fight money grind bullshit. They should’ve either:
A) Made all the customizations available at the start (but that’d be the logical thing to do, wouldn’t?
B) Make a lot of FM off of Online play + Make Not shitty netcode.
the fuck is this Double Dragon garbage that’s less fun than shitting in your hand and clapping? And why is it the best way to unlock shit? Should’ve spent less time making this crappy scenario mode, and spent more time on the netcode.
Ever notice this shit? The best way to unlock shit is always the most fuckin boring way. WHY?
GigaDuke,
ggs today man! I’m sorry I had to leave so soon. I was waiting for something at 5:00. I got to play some beyond 5, but had to go. It’s too bad too because they were great matches, very close, and I think we were getting to the point where we were figuring each other out.
Balrog makes poor Blanka sweat. Hopefully we can play again soon, when I’m not on a time limit.
Also, the connection said 1 bar. There was some lag, but I don’t think it was anywhere near 1 bar bad. I don’t know sometimes what Capcom’s online component for SF4 measures for the connection bar…
edit: I agree, SimpleKiss, about having to unlock shit the boring way. It’s especially horrible with Namco, though. WHYYYYY???
I guess I’m a easy to please nerd, because I’m enjoying Campaign mode right now. Sure it’s super shallow and you can just spam the same move over and over (Bruce b+2) but there’s something charming about it to me. The story is decent, as are the cutscenes. I also like how the dialogue changes depending on the character you pick. The biggest thing that gets me though, is equipment drops…I swear this is the sole reason I get addicted to rpgs, mmo’s, any game with equipment drops lol. That’s why I’m scared to pick up Borderlands…you may not see me for a while if I do.
Also, out of around 20 matches online, I have only had maybe 2 with bad lag. Every other game I have been able to do launchers into 10+ hit combos that I practiced in training. Granted, I can still feel the input lag that is there, but its nowhere near unplayable to me. Either way, offline should still be the way everyone should try to play every fighting game if they have the chance. Someone hit me up for some games one of these nights!

Good to finally play you, your a difficult man to find. I had a feeling you were no ordinary Blanka, you did things I never seen before. I didn’t understand why we were sitting on 1 bar, that had me scratching my head. When I play Hi-Tekk we stay 4 bars strong. who is your ISP? I’m stuck with the super assholes known as ATT.
Btw, you were pulling out some nice combos…you have a Arcade Stick, don’t you?
U Volt, you should get Borderlands for PC. It’s awesome.
Campaign mode in T6 isn’t that bad once you get into it. (And can change your character)
Paul = deathfistdeathfistdeathfistdeathfist
Trying to get me addicted to Borderlands so I can’t improve my Tekken skills and finally beat you, eh? You sneaky bastard!! :bgrin:
Oh, forgot to mention, everyone should turn off motion blur in t6…game looks a lot better without it.
EDIT: I just ran across the dancing bear cubs in campaign and almost spat water all over my stick.
Im so addicted to Dj Hero right now. I need to practice tekken but i like one more set on DJ hero. Then Forza 3 is just calling my name. i have to study for test and I just super busy but if anyone see me online, send me a invite if you me online.
Duke, if you got SF4 on PS3, add me. I need more friendly competition
That DJ Hero is something foolish. The mixes are actually pretty nice.
Mike pretty much hit it on the head.
Learn to break throws. Immediately. Also learn to block all of the slow, big lows.
The reason for this is fairly simple. Standing and blocking negates highs and mids. The only way to get past your guard is by throwing you, or hitting you low. If you get hit by the big low, that usually means you get knocked down and have to deal with okizeme (wake up options). Depending on the character, there might have been a combo after the low into the oki. Worst case scenario, you get carried to the wall for a big damage combo. By being able to block (and punish) these, you avoid taking unecessary damage and kind of give yourself a solid defense since that is now a move they cannot use on you without fear of losing half of their life.
As for throws… if you can’t break throws, you can only avoid them by ducking, jumping, or high crushing). Some throws from some characters can snatch you out of the air. So now you’re ducking, but this allows them to hit you with mids. Most launchers are mids. Most launchers lead to a lot of damage. You basically eat a 35dmg high unblockable. If you can break that you save yourself a lot of headache, especially since some throws lead to retarded oki and others can be followed with combos.
Learn your offense inside and out. Learn what gets you in. How to stay in. How to stuff other people’s pokes. Utilize your lows intelligently. Recognize that though somebody might break every throw, it is still good to throw them because that’s time they’re not hitting you and they might put you in an advantageous situation (ie: Marduk’s 1+3 throws is good because if his back is to a wall, the throw leaves his opponent positioned between him and the wall. If they break it, they end up with their back to the wall). Also, making them look high for the arms means they’re not looking low for a low that could be blockable on reaction. And you never know, one might sneak through for good damage.
You have to focus on you before you focus on others in this game. It’s a lot harder to execute now as well, so training mode is a must if you want to be efficient.
Dude, I’m feeling the same way, cept’ I don’t have any of those titles.
@Optimus
FR sent. I’m usually on through weekdays during the evening and weekends.
I’ll join the T6 fray soon enough!
For those that don’t get the concept on breaking throws - you can read the arms as they come out. I’m not sure how deep the practice mode is and if there is an option to choose what moves the CPU can throw out. If there isn’t, you’ll have to crack open a copy of Tekken 5 and practice there.
There is also a throw-breaking program that some have sworn by. Warning: it is a bit addicting, but it can be useful. Worth a shot imo.
Thanks for the tips, mang!
To everyone trying to learn tekken:
You should definitely heed the advice of icege, 12:51, tak, and lei hates. They know a lot about tekken and have the tournament experience to back it up. If you want to get good in the shortest amount of time possible, listen well.
I also kinda like Campaign mode. If beat it and am having alot of trouble with this new one on the train. To many gargoyles! Btw what is everyone playing this one? I got it for the ps3.
I don’t use the throw break trainer. I just go into training mode, put it on defensive mode, put the interval on fast, select the character who I’m practicing against throws (sometimes all of them, sometimes just the basic 1, 2, and 1+2 breaks).
To break throws, like Bach (hai!!) said, watch the arms. Which ever arm is on top (and also reaching the farthest) is the break.
If you watch, whiff a 1+3 grab. You’ll notice the left arm is up top. That’s a 1 break. Opposite for 2+4 (2 break). If you take Feng Wei and do d/f+1+2, you’ll see his arms come out at the same time. That’s 1+2 break.
The only time you use 3+4 is to reverse King’s Figure-Four if you didn’t break it initially, and it let’s you get out of his qcf+1 Jaguar Driver series iirc. Ganryu’s ff+2 on CH back in T5DR had a bunch of different breaks, but I’m not familiar with it to be honest.
A lot of stuff is harder than usual in this game, but as you develop the “feel” for the system, it flows pretty well. So far my most damage without a wall or rage is 105dmg with Craig off of a single CH
Actually, I was playing Ganny the other day and it looks like they took out the kick throw options out of ff+2 - which is lame. If someone can confirm, that would be good. Ganny feels a bit worse overall, df+2 is jab punishable and df+3 is -15 on block now.
Craig + 105 damage = x.x
Nice advice, again dude…keep it coming guys! I’m really loving this game, its a lot like SF4 to where I’m always thinking about it throughout the day. So when you gonna make the trip up and tutor me, Josh? If any of you local guys want to do the same, just PM me and set up a time.
So far, I’ve really been grasping juggles, wall carry’s, and the importance of Bounds in a combo. I’m pretty much only using Bruce, and can get 90 damage without a wall or rage. The problem with those combo’s though, is I don’t know how to reliably land those launchers in a match without being telegraphed from a mile away. The thing I really need to work on is just movement in general, how to be more elusive I guess. Also, when I get knocked down I need to learn the best options for wake-up. Another big thing is knowing what to do in order to interrupt characters that just rush you down and spam stuff…but I think that will come in more matchup and frame data analysis.
Throw breaking is coming along, I don’t think I’m great or anything with it yet…but I break more ofter for sure. I’ve actually just been using training mode like Icege said. Tomorrow is gonna be a Tekken/SF day, so hit me up for games if anyone wants to play. Have a happy halloween!
EDIT: I know its off topic, but KOFXII just FINALLY got an online patch for 360 and PS3, and it plays lag free a lot like BB actually. I may try to play KOF more casually now.
EDIT 2: RETURN OF THE EDIT: Blockbuster on Decker and Two Notch are closing, and everything is on sale up to 70% off right now. I managed to cop SF4 for PS3 for $15. I also got SF4 on PC for $20 on Steam since its on sale this weekend. So I now have it on every platform, and Capcom owns a big part of my soul and wallet. YAY
Early on you’ll find yourself hitting all the cheap quick mids you can, from there you’ll start to throw in some heavy lows and some quicker lows. Big launchers and slow lows aren’t really used except out of reaction or a sick mixup. I wouldn’t worry about hitting damaging juggles as much as defending damaging juggles.
