Columbia,SC: Going in Strong

I feel you dude. While I might not be the best player in the game, I’m a whore for reading frame data and fucking around in training mode to see what happens when I do this or that. I also watch a lot of pro play. Probably more than I should (Better spent in training mode, etc.)

I think a lot of guys will tell you that I probably have trouble shutting the fuck up at times when we all hanging out, and I start going off on what moves come out at what frames, that Focus attack is auto-crumple on counter hit, and so forth.

And yo, his name’s Jon. Mine’s John now we even more similar. How jealous you feel now?

You guys underestimate the power of experience and trust. Josh and I straight up throw names out because we feel confident those players will perform correctly under the circumstances. We’ve been around for many years setting up teams, arguing who is better than who, and trying to make our state something to recognize. Some of us have worked damn hard in the lab so that at major tournaments, South Carolina is a state worthy of competition. NYC, SoCal, NorCal, do not have more tight “cliques” as you say, they just have more players. We as a community (the whole of South Carolina) are far closer and friendlier to our neighbors (instate and out of state) than most of the regions you’ve listed. We should be thankful we have a group that can discuss these things without threats of physical violence.

Josh and I make our lists for two reasons. It’s because it’s what we believe is the best for us, the community, the State. Sure some people are worried teams will be stacked leaving out some players who could be better than the ones on the team, but we’re working off of pure experience and estimation. There’s a lot of talk amongst you newer younger folks that is in no way a waste of time. We appreciate you’re input and we NEED your input to understand how the scene feels about itself. The second reason we make our lists is because of sheer experience. How many tournaments have you been to Josh? I surely cant count mine. I’m willing to wager I’ve personally met and talked to more people in SC, GA, and NC than 99% of the players from SC. This does not mean I exclude any thoughts or recommendations from anyone, all this means is I feel I know where most of the state stands in comparison to the rest of the nation, and I know what it’s going to take to make a showing at a national tournament.

Our goal is to win, and to win hard. This takes personal effort by every player planning to enter a tournament. This takes cooperation and competition. Upstate has solid players, Columbia has solid players, Charleston has solid players, and there are many other areas with players eager to make their name. We need to put our efforts together, pull out all the stops, and go for broke.

Out of sheer dislike of my current hobbies and my love for the fighting game genre, I plan on starting a personal blog which will cover many areas of the scene. Matchup analysis, combo explination, player bio’s, regional skill levels, tournament numbers, whatever is on my mind. Be on the lookout.

Mr. Gibson,

I did not know that when you farted in a bath tub, that the air bubble carried the smell.

Now I know.

On a side note, Genocide Cutter says that he will try to be at ranbat tomorrow with Last Blade 2 and 100 bucks.

Nice, Bushido! I don’t know if ive met him in person yet or not…

To chime in on the team thing, I actually agree with going with experience. I mean Xavier, Ryan, Justin, Mike, and Josh for SF4 are rock solid choices for a 5 on 5 simply due to their consistency, tourney experience, skill, and so forth.

Beyond these people, I think that we may have to find a way to determine alternates because I personally don’t know of any other 100% lock players to consider for the team and, imo, we need alternates.

Byron did very well at the last ranking battle for SF4 but he had a long stretch there where he wasn’t playing from what i’ve heard. Doesn’t seem to stop him from doing well tho and i’m sure if he decided he wanted to do the team thing for Final Round he could be more than top notch by then. So Byron obviously has the experience too if he decides he wants to go for it.

I’m with Icege on the tourney thing actually. if we had started this process a while back and had multipe tourneys (ranking battle style?) to determine spots, that would be far more reliable. Like Josh said, one tournament could just mean you were good/lucky/on for that day.

Also, i haven’t been to final round but it’s a whole new level of hype than any tourney in SC. Tourney experience is needed imo in order to have the best chance of not cracking under that pressure.

Also, if we do decide on a team here, do you think we should find a way to get these guys together a few times before final round or just go in cold and rely on that experience?

I say the five players on the team, or 6 if alternate, should be voted on or decided on rather quickly, then each player should have AT LEAST one set, first to 100 wins. My residence is open for challenges.

Hope to see yall tomorrow.

Pat still playing?

You mean Genocide? he was at F.Brawl, no taller than you.

lazy edit:
Even though I cannot compete in the Ranbats, it would be nice if I could Stream or at least record some matches.
Even some commentary would be nice, AI Rabat style.

I’d be happy to commentate! =D

Quick question: Is this still @ the cultural art center? I’m leaving Charleston around probably… 9:30-10:00am (about an 1.5hr drive). I have to be back in Charleston and at work @ 5:00pm, so I’m planning on leaving at the latest, 3:15pm. Will both tournaments most likely be done by then?

both tourneys were done very quickly last time, Josh. And I think we will even have 1 more setup than last time as well. No promises but that’s how it’s looking.

and its still at the rec center like last time (a re-purposed school). the tourney blog has the addy. if you need help, hopefully u still have my #

It is time, my friends.

i can’t/wouldn’t take a tekken spot even if i could. number 1: i’m not that good, number 2: i live in atlanta now.

janitor should be aboard.

i am not even in the top 20 best tekken players down here. lol. but i do feel part of the community here, which i/we honestly never did feel like, being in the upper part of sc during the t5 era.

with that said, the healthy discussion that you guys are having is great. it really is. nobody is flaming, talking MAJOR shit that they can’t backup or making public personal attacks on others. not to mention you guys are pretty much staying on topic the whole time. josh and mike know what they are talking about, true indeed, but people aren’t afraid to interject, comment and give helpful suggestions. that is pretty much what is all about…pushing each other and making the competition stronger, which will ultimately make some if not all of you good players.

keep up the good work. good luck to all today(?)

Doing a stream at my place if you guys wanna check it out.

Congrats to the winners even if they fake.

Man, I really wish I could have been there today guys, I hope it all went well. Next time…

At least I have Contuum Shift to keep me company.
