Columbia,SC: Going in Strong

Dwaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiine: I haven’t really seen enough to have a solid opinion on the teams. I just found out I can’t get off from work on Friday night, so that means I won’t be able to participate in the team tournaments =(

Playing catch up on the thread while I study! c(’.'c)

With the limited info/exp I do have, my current opinion for the 5s:

SF4: Byron, Mike, Justin, Ryan, Xavier (Alt: Dwaine)

Ryan plays Ryu, Boxer, and Viper. I’d really like to see him vs. Xavier again. Sometimes he tries to hard to embarass people or look fancy when he needs to just focus and wreck it. I’m sad nobody mentioned me for SF4 T_T

T6: Mike, Byron, Justin, Anthony, Ahmed (he lives in NC nao, but Larry said we can have him!)

Anthony is… unrefined to say the least. He’s random as Hell and really frustrating when you’re playing in HD or just learning the game. He’s currently considered the best in Charleston, but we’re going to play soon for the title =D If I take him out and can convince him to let me train him afterwards, omg look out.

I don’t play with the guys anymore for the most part and stopped hosting tournaments. Got tired of all the effort being put in with absolutely zero appreciation from the local scene. They expect everything handed to 'em it seems. Mainly because I really want nothing to do with a certain person here anymore. Long story short: he took a simple disagreement and started lobbing personal insults and shit my way. So until he apologizes (sincerely) I want nothing to do with him shrug He’s not going to apologize more than likely, so I’ll just continue not coming out. I’m not going to tell people, “Hey, don’t invite him or I won’t come over” because that ain’t my place. I’m also f’n busy right now though. The semester just started (15 hours, ew), work, family health issues (get better and come home Pappap =( ), and helping organize Final Round has been just absolutely beating my ass in.

Kind of funny that I wanted to hold a major tournament here with international players to try and spark some interest in the Charleston community. Nobody is willing to put in the work though. So instead, I sent some PMs out and now we’ve got Knee and NiN coming to FRXIII. Muahaha! I really didn’t do much though, just kind of found the person that knew them and we played middle men until we could get something worked out. We’re also looking to get Tissuemon over next from Japan.

I really, really want to bring over Uryo also for SF4. I’m going to talk to Tissuemon about setting this up. Will keep y’all informed!

P.S. Ahmed, Justin, and I will see y’all Saturday <3

LOL, gotta admit that was TOO funny!

Daedalus, you gotta make it son. Also, I agree with the tournament also.

Actually, I think we’re insulting each other about completely different things.

For clarification: I said that because of your seemingly salty post about my SRK handle, which is why I specifically quoted that specific section of your post. Specifically. Haha. Unfortunately, team order didn’t factor into that post and my feelings on that matter can be seen in my response to Tak.

And I have no idea where/if we’re meeting tomorrow. I’ll need a ride though because I’m sending my car into the shop this weekend.

cough

I said that the Tekken guy can’t be on the team. The only reason I didn’t mention you cuz I though you would be just focusing on tekken rather than sf4. Damn errrrrrrrrrrybody will be at the tourney saturday. I want to see some abel gimmicks.

I not going to lie to you. I just like insulting you for no reason. wtf does your srk name come from. As for that ride. Let’s see I should bring more comp to the tourney but what I trying to win it. you might have to hoof it homey. jk ask u-volt to give you a ride. he lives closer to you.

Something I’d like to mention:

Tournament doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get the best team put together imo. Just means you’ll have a team of the people that happened to perform well that day. Team needs to be a team, not the best individuals imo. Like, you might have somebody that talent wise deserves a spot, but their attitude just brings the whole team down. Got to have people who are willing to put egos aside and look at things from an objective p.o.v.

Hey D-waine, do me a flavor plz and edit the name of the person I’ve got problems with out, because I really don’t need to be putting dirty laundry out there like that. Plus, I don’t want people to get a bad image of them just because I happen to not like them. I edited my original post if you want to just cut and paste that. <3

I’m getting hype for SF4 again. I have no idea why. I’m in the lab now finding new Marduk stuff. I’m hoping I remember to actually use the shit on Saturday. I’m terrible with losing myself in training mode, finding shenanigans, and just devolving back to old habits when I go out to play T.T but I still gotta brush up on Abel so that I don’t drop combooooos

If Dez still considers himself Gvegas and can get Larry to get his hands out of the diapers and onto the controllers again, I’d say they’d definitely should be on the team! =D

Isn’t Daedalus that one dude who was Icarus’ Dad, with the whole don’t fly to close to the sun or you fake wings will melt, and of course that ass of a son does the complete opposite. Uh, is it that Daedalus.?

Indeed.

Dwaine, are you doing the same car situation this go around or something different?

@Josh - Yay for having me on that list :nunchuck: . Do you bother playing T6 online? i should prbably practice up if im expected to be on the team…yea…:xeye:

Why, you would make top 5 anyway… You just want ppl money…

Icege,

I understand what you’re saying but you can’t have a double standard in terms of putting together a group of members so that a “team needs to be a team, not the best individuals”. Here’s what I mean, you have your list of people who should represent the SF4 5v5. Now that’s fine I don’t have a problem with that. But why would you assume that everyone else that you’ve left off your list would not be able to contribute with their skills as well as attitudes for the benefit of the team? I can’t help but get the feeling that you just picked the people that you knew of that you felt would make a good 5v5 team. Which is fine, but it just doesn’t need to be written in stone without further discussion. Lets face it, we as a State when it comes to the SF4 community is disorganized and cliqueish and we aren’t going to grow as a area, region or State until we start being more organized, showing up to tournaments (consistently) and less cliqueish. We aren’t as establish as Atlanta, NorCal, SoCal, Houston and NYC scenes are so we need to build to get it there. So inorder to do that, we gotta round up everyone (for the time being) and let people bang it out to see who comes out on top. And here’s the catch from THERE, we make adjustments to find out if they were one hit wonders or not. We just need to understand that we as a SF4 community are not at a point yet where we can just say unanimously that everybody on yours, Tak’s and Awardtour’s list are the best in the state. So that’s why it’s best to have a tournament. Personally my opinion is of those who should be on the team are as follows (not in order of importance):

  1. Xavier
  2. Justin
  3. Open
  4. Open
  5. Open
  6. Open (Alternate)

Honorable Mention:
1.Anyone who wants to try out.

Now you maybe thinking, what about Ryan, Tak, Byron, Awardtour, U-Volt, Avatar, Icege, Dr. Hat, Dez, filldoh, etc. Thats my point. We have several good players in the area that play but we don’t have a lot of consistency from those good players as far as showing up to tournaments is concerned. So what you have is a lot of subjectivity when people are making picks for the 5v5 team. Yes we all have a life and we have responsibilities (I’m not knocking that) but we have to have an objective plan in place to set us up to win as a state for Final Round and the future. The reason I chose Xavier and Justin is because they’ve consistently played in tournaments and placed at least top three throughout the state. Since the post has already ran pretty long I’ll say this, at the end of the day because of where we are as a SF4 community, we need to have tryouts to get the best representation of the state and not just throwing around a bunch of opinions and seeing what sticks to the wall without clear justification.

I’ll enter the 5v5 tournament by myself.

j/k I probably wont even make it to FR.

Tekk: Never said people not on my list shouldn’t be on the team. I clarified that it was a list made from limited and previous experience and that it was strictly an opinion, not the Ten (Five?) Commandments. While tournament results should be taken into consideration, there are other factors as well. When you’re having tournaments for the community, you’re going to know habits of the local player. Judging it strictly based off how y’all do against one another isn’t the best route (imho) because well… you’re not playing against each other in a team tournament. Track record against out of town competition holds a lot more weight. You might have a guy that gets top 5 in every local, but goes 0-2 whenever they leave town. While a guy that maybe always gets 7th or 9th always does extremely well out of town. In a team tournament, out of town, against out of town players, I’d personally trust the guy who performs better outside of the circle. That’s why I don’t trust tournaments amongst the team candidates. Especially later in the life of the game where it comes down to character match-ups.

If I had to vote for anybody to really be a team captain and have say in the team, it’d be Justin because he’s the best traveled out of anyone else here. He’s been to Columbia AND Charleston, so he has the best exposure to know who has the highest potential. While we might not be able to travel in the lowcountry, it’s not due to laziness (well, yea. But some of us just can’t get time off :frowning: ).

Icege ranks everyone in Columbia in tournament experiance and knowlege of FR. I never met the guy and i know what he is about… I say let’s follow his suggestions blindly, if it turns out bad then we can just blame Icege. At least we will have a new person to hate on…

Dude, that is fucking awesome.

I totally trust what Icege says btw, he definitely knows what he’s talking about. I still think having the ranking tournament would still be beneficial though. It would be good to get **everyone **together once or twice before final round so strats can be discussed and potential orders and etc. rather then 15 minutes before the 5v5 tournaments start. I think both the ranking tournament and top SC players inputs put together should be able to produce the best team. Also, just knowing the community is close and communicating will make a huge difference. Would be nice seeing SC become more of a combined thread instead of the three it is right later down the line.

Fair points bro. My goal isn’t to cause drama. My goal is to have a objective plan in deciding how to come up with the best way to represent our state. But you have to think that because our scene as a state is so small in terms of core players, about 10 people play SF4 in the low country, 7 to 9 play in the upstate and about 10 from Columbia we’re all playing against each other anyway. So in a sense we’re all kinda of “local” to each other in a way. And if you think about it, Justin and Xavier did exactly what needed to be done (playing the same people over and over again) to make it obvious that they are locks for the 5v5 team. I just think how can you have a tournament to decide the Columbia 5v5 and Charleston 5v5 (actually i’m not sure if you guys did or not but if not how come) but not have the same thing to represent the state when new players have come into the picture and the older players have gotten better? And i’m not saying that your opinion is like the Ten Commandments, I’m saying that because you’ve been around for awhile your words carry more weight than most and people tend to listen to that.

Daedalus@your name means your skillfull like Daedalus. I still don’t like your name.

Lei@ sure cuz I have to pick up dr.hat, so meet me there at 11:00 am ok.

Damn dude that sucks. I can understand though, cause you are trying to have fun and play against other players to get better but at times if people don’t show you any respect it kinda gets to the point of being just not fun anymore. To anyone here who has held casuals with friends and the people who set up the tourneys like the rambats I just gotta say I appreciate it cause it has helped me to learn and to become a better player overall. So what I am trying to say to anyone on this forum, and all the people I have played against much respect for the sportsmanship and to helping me to get better. If we can’t help each other to be better gamers or just to have fun again what is the point.

Oh to everyone coming on saturday good luck to you all I will be there and bring my king with me. Hope to do well this time if not though thats okay cause I plan to learn from all of this.

And one last thing how do you post that stuff by just using a word like this post here "edit

I take it you must be from the haters section" been trying to figure out that and man that pic is awesome.

O_O hides

Ranking tournament should definitely be held regardless of whether or not the outcome of the team relies on it. Get more tournament experience, possibility of out of towners coming, and a way to keep the skills sharp. Crack sessions are even better! c(’.'c) Without the pipes and crack though… Replace those with joysticks and games :nunchuck:

Something to kind of stress to y’all: While there’s always going to be the competitive drive to be better than everyone else in the area, ultimately, y’all are crew. Share information. Explain strats. Casuals and local tournament results you shouldn’t let bother you, because casuals are times for experimentation and sharing of knowledge while tournaments are a measuring stick to check on your progress. Charleston Curse has always been people only concerned with where they stand in Charleston, and assuming that since they do good in their city, that they’re good in general. Hell, I’ve been sucked up into that mentality before. You want to keep it always friendly and relaxed, which is why I’m so jealous of y’alls scene =P

Trust me. You don’t want to merge the Charleston area with the rest of SC. Back in the day on the Tekken side it was fine, but uh… well… I’ll let y’all see for yourself >.>

Charleston 5v5, Ryan, Justin, and myself got together because we were for sure the top 3 in the area and decided on who we wanted on the team with us. We took into consideration play style, skill, attitude, and a lot of other variables. I think it’d be better if I were to explain in person so as to avoid any potential cross-city drama.

It’s so weird people actually respecting me and listening to what I have to say. Y’all making me want to transfer there =P

But until then, here’s Jon Fitch, fighting for food: http://fcperu.com/site/images/stories/perfil_internacional/jon-fitch.gif

I’m jealous that SimpleKiss looks like him T_T

Cool deal bro. See ya on Saturday! Are you going to be the only one coming from Charleston?
