Columbia,SC: Going in Strong

now where did this come from? u want dollar tourneys or what? first time ive heard anybody raise any complaints about this

I mean, yall doin stuff right, I’m not complaining about the way yall have set up this or running this, With the turnout yesterday yall should be proud because it is obviously helping the community. It’s that I am a full-time college student working a part-time job to keep my car from falling apart on the street. Anything that isn’t on the dollar menu is to expensive for me.

So am I led to believe that I should just wait for CS to come out instead of dropping coin on CT, then picking this up?

Since it looks like there’s Velveeta all around and all…

Marcus

GG’s. Good seeing everyone again!

Congrats to those who placed.

great matches to everyone I played yesterday. Thanks for helping me have such a good experience at my first tourney, hope to see you all at the next one.

ggs to everybody. love the turnout and the support .lei wat happen in street fighter. not so perfect, I see. I lost to dr.hat again. my face when I lost was too funny. see yall next time.

btw icege ruin tekken for me. what up with me and these tekken moderators.

Sorry Gak but i guess we can’t please everybody. If there’s a consensus that it’s too much we’ll change of course, but this is the first and only time ive heard of this. Thanks for running to get that pS3 for us tho man. it was a huge deal to have an extra setup.

Thanks to everybody who came down. There were a few people missing that I hoped would be there (Bushido, SimpleKiss, Tak, etc) but life happens. I am very pleased to see so many new faces come down. Especially Icege, Justin, greglife and the rest of the Gaffney crew, and the Augusta players who made a trip down to our ranbat. Ggs everybody. There were some really epic matches and the casuals afterward were great. Also thanks to Hi-Tekk, U-Volt, Pat, and others who helped with brackets when I needed to run to the bathroom. That Mountain Dew throwback just went right on through lol!

Also, Hi-Tekk is already there at 10:00 or so but I am gonna plan to be there around that time as well for the next one. We can have a few setups ready to go that early so that players can come down early if they wish to get casuals/warm-ups before the actual ranbats begins.

I know I had a blast at this one, talking to all the new players, and playing some good games. Saw lots of peeps talking about moves and strategies, which is awesome, because IMO the ranbats are more important for sharing secrets and helping each other level up more than just going after some prize money. Good stuff.

Yeah I apologize for not being there yesterday. But congrats to all placed in SF4 and Tekken. I can prolly guess who made top 4 in both from seeing and playing with all of you. I plan on being at the next one.

For those wondering, top four for each (4th place for each I think are right, I could be wrong though.):

Street Fighter:

  1. Xavier
  2. Dr. Hat
  3. AwardTour
  4. Greglife

Tekken

  1. Lei Hates
  2. Ahmed
  3. Bach
  4. SonOfGohan

i have to go to work soon. thanks for posting the top 4. i will post full results tomorrow when i am home from work.

ok im crunching numbers now.

For season 2 of this ranbat we might need to consider some modifications to the pay structure.

We have added over $110 for SF4 and almost $70 for Tekken 6. This is for this event alone. Added to the last take-in and with 3 more ranbats left to go, the prize pots for each game will be pretty crazy (i’m sure Xavier is giddy right now!)

Here’s some things we can consider (for season 2)

  1. lower the tourney fee. It will attract more players and the payout for top 3 would still be very nice
  2. we can keep tourney fees the same and extend prize payouts from top 3 to more than that for season 2
  3. something in between
  4. ok our ranbats are getting more popular than even I anticipated. We are taking in more door fees than we need for the venue.
-we can a) create a 4th place pot winner which will win all the door fee overages
-b) we can possibly use door fee overages to purchase tourney materials we vote on?
-c) we can create some other prizes outside of placement. (most improved, best rookie for season, etc? that players vote on)

Just ideas. Ranbat season 1 is a big test, and it’s great that the success is giving us all these options!!!

Here’s the full results from 1.2. Names with characters next to them are for my use so i can remember which character they used. names without characters used same characters as last time.

SF4

1: Daedalus (Rufus, Balrog)
2: Dr.Hat (Seth, Viper)
3: Award Tour
4: greglife (Gen)

13: jaguar131
13: Pick
13: Jason (Ken)
17: bonecollector (Bison)
17: thugishdarkwing (Ken, Bison, Zangief)
17: John (Rufus)
17: Sosicknasty (Gouken, Sagat)

Tekken 6
1: LH621

5: John (Alisa)
5: Icege (Craig)
7: Dr.Hat

POT
SF4
21 players x $5 = $105 + $12 door fee bonus = $117

Tekken
11 players x $5 = $55 + $12 door fee bonus = $67

Door Fees
25 players total x $2 = $50
2 casuals-only players x $2 = $4
Total Door Revenue = $54 - $30 (venue cost) = $24 over (split evenly adds $12 to each pot)

With 2 casuals-only players there were 27 total players present at 1.2. There were 3 people who just came to watch. 30 total people attended 1.2.

Resounding success if you ask me for a ranbat.

This is a tremendous team effort. I told multiple people at the ranbat who thanked me personally that I did not host this event: it was a team effort from many people. Great work everybody!

Good games saturday. ill be around on xbox live if anyone wants to do some SF4

Dwaine: My revenge for psychic flash kicks! D:<

I’m helping a buddy that used to play T4 (Dez probably remembers Lil Chuck aka Wiggle~stick/lingdynasty) get back into the game. He’s probably going to start with Law, so I’m kind of learning as we go.

Only complaint is having to play on a flat screen which regardless of being Evo standards, still has approx 15-17ms of lag which equates to 1f. 1f is the difference between something being safe and punishable, as well as JFs and juggles being consistent. When I go from landing no juggles and breaking one throw to only getting thrown twice and only dropping two juggles for the remainder of the tournament, something is definitely amiss. It was my own fault in the end. I should’ve spoken up after the first match when I felt something wrong. Final Round is still only on SDs for that reason.

I love the current set up y’all have aside from that and wouldn’t change anything else. Just the TVs, which I know is much easier said than done. Price is perfect, plenty of room, easy access to urinals that reach out clear through your taint… >.>

Chuck & Shawn want to come with me to the next one. I’ll try to bring another SDTV with us as well as a set up to help out, but like yesterday, we have to leave @ 3pm so I can get back in time for work. Damn Communists! T.T

From the heart, y’alls scene is what gaming scenes should be. Everybody was eager to learn and to play. Nobody seemed to get salty (unlike this guy T.T) when they lost and instead looked towards it as something to learn by. That is just absolutely awesome to see, and I will make every single one of these as long as I can squeeze the time. You guys have actually got me going back into training mode for BOTH games

The torch is in y’alls hands now. You’re what the rest of the state should strive to be in terms of attitude, determination, and now skill!

GGs everyone!

EDIT: Other recognitions aside from winners is definitely something that I think would be a lot of fun. You don’t even need to reward them monetarily, just the recognition is validating. Plenty of different things to recognize.

nah that jin just suck and shoulda burst like a normal person. tao got that 8k combo tho.

Whoa…whoa…whoa…whoa…whoa…

I actually didn’t use Balrog at all. Dwaine used Balrog against me, and I played Rufus the entire time.

Because of this mix-up I should get automatic 1st place at the next ranbat. Just sayin.

Also, I don’t remember Dr. Hat using Viper. He did, however, use Vega. Could be wrong about this though.

really? dwaine used balrog against u?? LOL! ok my bad, but you can see who i’d make that mistake lol

also, yeah i typed that summary really quickly. so i MEANT to type Vega of course not viper. thanks for pointing that out tho cuz i may have cut and pasted it and kept the mistake

Dwaine used balrog tho? mind = blown. didnt know he played rog at all

Np Anytime…

Lei: You better win… Greenville free… Keyon went up there wit no money and returned with hard cash w/o winning a tournament… How dat happen…

I play many people. the bounty still out.

Good games to all who made it! I really didn’t think we would reach 20+ players until we got to our 4th ranbat so we’re kinda ahead of schedule interms of attendance and participation is concerned. Definitely looking forward to the next one!

Avatar,

hey man this thing is turnig out kinda how we envisioned it huh? :bgrin: We talked about it doing well the first season but this is really pleasing to see! Hopefully we can only go up from here! The biggest thing we gotta do is continue to spread the scene through word of mouth and continue to maintain our integreity with stat tracking and everything else. Real quick thing that i wanted to share about our scene growing, I spoke to this Rose player about how he find out about our ranbat and he said that he just randomly googled “columbia, sc street fighter 4” and our blog/SRK thread popped up at the top of the search. How cool is that! But as far as the money is concerned, its working out pretty well by having the ranbat room rental pretty much paying for itself through the door fees. I think if it can work out maybe we should have a 4th place payout and then if we still have something left over money wise we should pay some one for like the fastest kill or something like that (like they did at D’vinos). Just a thought. Also, Avatar you mentioned maybe purchasing some matierials. What matierials were you thinking about?

Icege,

thanks for the input and the compliments on the Cola scene  At the end of the day, we just want to be a scene that is growing strongly and steadily. Not to mention a scene that is competive to boot! I think anytime you have players who are having a good time, learning and everyone pretty chill, it winds up being a fun situation for everyone. It’s defintely great to hear that more guys from Charleston will be at the next ranbat. Keep’em coming! As far as another set up is concerned, that would be great! It wouldn’t hurt at all. And another thing it would do is give us more options with people being able to choose what tv they want to play on (and make the Ranbat go faster nonetheless). I normally get there around 10:20 so if you wanna get there around that time and set up, that’s no problem.
