Cody Vers. 2012 Changes

Anyone else think Cody’s low jab might have a bit more pushback than before? I swear I’m whiffing low short in situations where it would normally combo.

I love Cody’s new walk speed, so much easier to catch them runaways

Played against Fei Long I usually loose to and destroyed him in a few matches.
Feels great.

playing cody online for a few hours, seems like hes alot better suited in ver 2012. back then i rarely picked up the knife but now it seems frameless. of course i got lamed out by a honda player on my first match… sigh. no yuns in sight so far maybe ill switch to ps3 later on tonight

Agreed. It is a great change. Juri got a walk speed buff in AE and now Cody in AE 2012. Now if they would buff Sagat’s walk speed (that’s a joke) I’d be set.

Although it seems great that you can block whilst picking up the knife, if you DO end up blocking an attack while you pick up the knife, the chances are you’ll end up teching a throw or getting hit. Which would make you lose the knife. So I think that buff is specifically for picking up the knife during projectile wars.

I’ve got some new info about Cody for you guys which I’ll post later on today, I’m going to sleep right now though lol.

Is it me or does start-up, recovery and speed of all rocks seem better?

Is that done when he is oiled or not? Little info here: Oily Hakan takes only 90% damage from the first two hits. Scaling is still the same.

It was dry. In training mode, he does start oily, but he loses it quickly.

there wont be a flood of codies… his lack of defense and reversal makes a huge learning curve for most people to pick up. as soon as they find out he’s on character that they actually need to block with they’ll drop him in a heartbeat.

When you do cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.LK xx HP CU everything is alright.

DO f.MP, cr.LK xx HP CU EVERYtime the** HP CU got blocked** by my oppponents! If f.MP is a counterhit the Criminal Upper linked after the short. Can anybody confirm this?

The knife changes are nice. Used it a couple of times and destroyed aaaaaaall xD It’s a good mindgame against plasmaspammers… pick it up while they’re shooting (no risk at all). Suddenly they stop shooting because I had a knife :D. Nice mindgames xD

@IdLikeSomePoundCake: Yesterday I talked to a guy who switched to Cody because of his changes. He asked me which move he can use like Ryus shoryuken. When he heard my answer, he said that Cody is a shit character in this case and dropped him

knife pickup is still vulnerable for at least 1 frame on startup, so not 100% safe.

Somehow I think we’re going to see a ton of cody’s the first couple weeks of 2012, then all the noobs will drop him because he’s not herp-derp like Yun was for some people. (I didn’t have an issue with Yun. Outside of the stupid Palm I thought he was fine. Same with Yang.)

Oh, and the issue with the CU not connecting, I can confirm that. I’ve had the same issue myself, and I have no idea why that’s the case (and it does connect if it is a counter-hit). Though it’s not as safe (or rather, it’s not really safe at all if it’s blocked), f.mp, cr.lk xx mk.RK will connect, counter-hit or not. You probably know this though. :smiley:

I’m jealous of all of you though…can’t practice anything because Capcom hasn’t released the 2012 update for the PC version, and I don’t have a 360 or PS3…:crybaby:

Can’t confirm, works like a charm with me (PS3).

Zero problems at all diong f.MP cr.LK HP criminal upper, counterhit or not. 360.

If you don’t cancel cr.LK right away, HP upper can sometimes be blocked from certain ranges.

I’m having trouble anti-airing with the knife. cr. HP gets beat out A LOT and when it doesn’t it only works as an anti-air at a certain distance. st.HP trades a lot, and it’s a trade in Cody’s favor, but I don’t want to trade :[. b.MP and f.MP really make me want to ignore the knife as I’ve always been doing.

you have to realize that you need to adapt a somewhat new style when you pick up the knife. you can’t play the way you do without the knife. the recent changes made the transition even less noticable (7f anti air, f.hp remains, no risk when picking it up), but it remains unique. you have to memorize entirely new ranges where you can do what. also, there is no need to pick up the knife if you don’t want to. it CAN bring certain advantages in particular matchups, but nothing life changing.

btw don’t forget hk ruffian.

Really weird: I can’t hit Sagat with EX Rocks after a lvl3 focus attack. I can’t remember this being an issue in AE, but maybe I missed something? If not, would someone please confirm this, cause this seems pretty strange. Does work on other characters, though I haven’t tested them all.

I can confirm this. Hope this will get patched like juri’s cl.mp. we have to report this to capcom tho.
