Cody Vers. 2012 Changes

no it has the same startup. can’t connect after a c.lk (which has 13 or 14 frames canceladvantage). lk ruffian has 15 startup.

Knife
-knife c.hp, knife c.hp works. seems character specific tho.
-f.hp, knife c.lp also comboes
-my calculated combos all work:
…s.lp, s.mp, c.lk xx (new bnb) - very hard to hit if you do a c.lp beforehand.
s.hp, c.lk xx
c.hp, c.mp, (super)
c.hp, c.hp (character specific)
c.hp, c.hk
…non-chain-meaty s.lp, c.hp, u2
…non-chain-meaty s.lp, c.hk
…non-chain-meaty s.lp, c.mp (super)
-new combo: s.hp, c.lp, s.lp, s.mp
-knife pickup is immediately, thus blocking any attack will cancel out the whole recovery, but you still have the knife. no risk at all.

Ex Zonk
-ex zonk, fadc, hk ruffian, u2-dust followup works now (292 dmg) due to the new floaty arc. everywhere on the screen too.
-ex zonk, fadc, bingo, u2-dust aswell (342) - everywhere. in corner with ex cu aswell.
-plain ex zonk, u2-dust got also alot more lenient
-ex zonk, fadc, u2 can now hit once with the dust, but sadly it doesn’t juggle afterwards.

Bad Spray
-bad spray, super is highly spacing and characterspecific and not advisable to use at all.
vs sakura: hk version only hits once, mk and lk whiff entirely
vs hawk: hk version only hits once, mk and lk hit 6 times each but only upclose, can change with different spacings.
-puts opponent into jp1
-can’t FADC / cancel the first hit
-it also does 1 more chip damage! ( AE=15; v2012=2x8)
-bad spray also has more hitback, making it partially safe on block against some characters.

Misc
-Damage seems same for every move
-Forward walkspeed buff is very noticable
-Forwardthrow, walk, j.hp ambiguous crossup doesn’t seem to work anymore =/

So, with all the knife changes are people going to actually go for the knife now? Especially considering that, as zUkUu pointed out, it’s essentially a risk-free option thanks to being able to block during the pick-up animation. The only issue is that we lose our f.mp pressure tool, though the fact that the knife does chip might alleviate this somewhat. And we can actually do an overhead with the knife in hand, which is nice.

the biggest buff is the c.hp along with the blockchange imo. that makes the knife alot more viable. with f.hp we also remain some mini-mixup.
I still don’t gonna use it much tho, but in mus where it can be used it’ll be even better. they made a first step to “not miss THAT much when you pick it up”, but there is still a crucial difference to when you not have it

god…jump fierce > cr. fierce u2 does 601 damage. Possibly the sickest and dumbest thing I’ve seen in a while

Also, I’m annoyed. The day for the 2012 update is finally here and the PC version doesn’t get updated yet. I wanna experiment with the new knife stuff that Cody got, gosh darn it! :mad:

ofc not :stuck_out_tongue: not possible due to the juggle-states.
what that means is just that ex zonk, FADC letting the opponent fly really high away now, making the hk ruffian hit as if you would use it against an airborn opponent or late hit, allowing to combo u2-dust afterwards without meter.

lol ok I thought that was the case but it wasnt exactly clear since in your post the last ex zonk combo said sadly the rest of the hits don’t combo, now that I think about it you must have said that since you only get one dust hit.

I guess for a second I was hoping for an undocumented change :wink:

Couple things I’ve found from playing with 2012 for like 15 minutes. My standard training dummy is Hakan.

With knife, j.hp, cr.hp, cr.hp does a silly amount of damage (336 dmg, 560 stun), and the 2nd cr.hp can be super cancelled to up it to 582 damage.
Honestly, the cr.hp, cr.hp link feels like a 2 or maybe 3 frame link, not tough at all. I think this will work on most characters, if not all (just quickly tried it on cammy, ibuki, and yun). It doesn’t work on akuma, but leaves what looks like a 1-frame gap between the two, meaning it could lead to some downright dirty counter hit setups.

The knife cr.hp change is monumental for knife players. I have a feeling this is going to lead to a lot more counter hit setups using it and stupid high damage combos. Also, I feel like j.hp, cr.hp, cr.hp, u2 should work, but I haven’t gotten it to yet. Correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t really know frame data that thoroughly.

Also, in regards to ex bingo, fadc, hk ruffian, u2 dust: replacing the hk ruffian with f+hk yields 10 more damage (302).

it’s a 1 frame link c.hp has 7 frames startup now. c.hp, u2 is possible (c.hp gives +7 frames, u2 has 7 frames startup). dunno about max range after 2x c.hp, could make the dust hit in the 8th frame, thus making it impossible. it’s characters specific btw. didn’t test j.hp beforehand tho, could lead the c.hp to hit meaty with less pushback and more frame advantage.

ex zonk, fadc, f.hk, u2 is not new tho. I listed CHANGES and NEW stuff, not what makes the most sense. :wink:

Also, I was typing that out while I was still messing around with character testing lol. It worked on most of the smaller characters, it just has issues with characters that have weird upper-body knock back like akuma.

Yes, very much. I haven’t incorporated the new walk-speed into my meta-game very much yet, but I’m loving what they’ve done with cody.
