Seriously contemplating it here but he’d remain a 2nd stringer at worst. It’s hard to really come up with good reasons to play him over Poison/Yun/Dudley/Ken/Sakura/Cammy any one of whom could easily replace him in any match and do better.
Can someone experiment with Cody’s U2 near the wall? Like try doing it really close to the corner and having the opponent jump over you once you start up or have the opponent get hit with the dust near the corner or hit out of the air with the dust near the corner.
There is a “Near Wall” version of U2 that includes a script called “U2_CANCEL_WALL” and I’m curious what it does if anything, the juggle potential on the hitboxes points to it being able to hit with the wrench swings even if all of the dust hits connect vs airborne.

She doesn’t get high juggled by mp CU, which is a shame because in theory you could tag on ex CU for novelty factor (and a tiny bit of damage). Nothing juggles after hp CU. I think the recovery is too long on both mp/hp CU anyway, so you wouldn’t be able to get the ex CU out in time.
There are other characters that lp CU > ex CU works midscreen on - I was making a vid that included some of this info, but never got around to finishing it before Ultra came out.

Yeah it’s like -28 lol, so many people just throw it out there online though as it doesn’t look that punishable.

Anyways, I just realized that because of the stealth nerf to Cody’s LK Ruffian it actually lost a MAJOR utility: OS vs backdash. Some characters when you use LK ruffian to OS backdash you’ll hit them airborne rather than grounded.
Back throw - FJ HK OS LK Ruffian will hit these characters airborne and allow them to do a techable wakeup if they know about it: Ibuki, Gen, Dan, Hakan, Yun, Sagat, Yang, Fei Long, and Rufus. (this is of the AE2012 cast, I dunno about the 5 USF4 chars)
This means on about 1/4th of the cast they can quick rise if hit out of backdash

I guess you can just OS with MK Ruffian now for more damage then. I haven’t tested that nerf yet because i dont own Ultra, I’ve been playing on my friends xbox whenever i get the chance. Next time I’m over his house, I’ll test out the LK ruffian nerf.
Overall, I think Cody is definitely better than he was before. He’ll still be lower-mid tier but that walk speed buff helps ALOT. I notice that I’m having much less trouble getting on my opponents. I just have to be patient and before long I’m in their face playing my frame trap game.
Well MK Ruffian is fine but the nice thing about LK Ruffian is that it can be used as a semi vortex (Do 4F LK Ruffian Safe jump and you can mix between NJ HP, NJ HP OS LK Ruffian, and empty jump crLK) where as MK Ruffian means that while you punished their BD for a very healthy 130 damage you lose out on positioning in some respects. They are closer to the corner than before but you gotta work to get in close again against some characters.
I dunno how much it’ll matter overall but it’s still a loss of a tool (and one I personally like to use lol)
Doing crack kick after a blocked jumpin or close mp seems to catch a lot of people take that stand techers!
I absolutely HATE HATE HATE stand techers after a jump in and from a cr.lp-> cl.mp, i’m forced to use staggers in my strings.which work great but it still grinds my gears. Going to try it a bit more tomorrow and hopefully catch some people.
I think zoning is a lot more feasible now. Buffs to ex criminal upper allow you to throw rocks more recklessly. Previously if your opponent jumped in and you didn’t have enough time to do back + mp or HK ruffian you kind of had to just block because getting counter hit was a risk. Ex criminal upper can be used more as an anti air now and can beat a lot of moves, and if you trade, you can follow up with MK Ruffian. Couple this with slight delays on your rock timings and Cody’s neutral seems a lot stronger
