Hugo, Gief shouldn’t be a problem with the anytime-release bad stone. It’s already murder for Zangief to get in without it. Not having EX-crim throw invul is gonna be bad once they get in but it will be harder for Gief to get there in the first place, and Hugo’s miserable huge; between rocks, ruffians and anti-airs I can’t see sweating Hugo much in the mid-screen.
The grapplers I worry about are Hawk (Somewhat), and Hakan, (Definitely). Most of all I’m scared of Abel. Ex-criminal uppercut was the only thing keeping Cody in that match. I really have no concrete idea how to handle that fight, and I honestly think it’s his worst match in the game over Sagat/Rufus in AE2012.
Overall, I like the changes. They’re not huge but they help, and -4 Lp Crim and T. RH airborne are sweet-sweet love.
Sad that Cody’s best mid screen new knife combo that requires you to stand over the knife only does 14 damage more than his much easier sHP - crMP - HP Criminal Upper.
Unless there are some unlisted knife buffs it’s going to stay pretty much useless except in maybe 3 matchups where it’s situationally useful but not so good as to be something you absolutely should be doing.
I’m really banking on walk speed / LP CU -4F / F+HK Airborne improving footsies because those are the most important changes.
I don’t mind these changes at all. On one hand, Cody only got two significant buffs. On the other hand, at least he didn’t get changed for the worst. cough Seth cough Makoto
I haven’t played Cody in ages, but out of curiosity, has anyone tried an FADC combo in the corner where your pushback on hit could leave you at a point where cr.HP could be canceled to pick the knife back up?
Like starting with the knife, comboing to criminal upper, fadc (loses knife), cl.strong, cr.strong, cr.fierce xx pick up knife, ender?
Due to the way the knife falls (always towards the center of the stage unless you do a knife throw then it tracks your location) that combo would be incredibly inconsistent and situational based on screen position. I think it might only work if the opponent is in the corner if it works at all.
EX Zonk on Abel. I usually don’t like doing too many reversals with Cody but when Abel players get their vortex going, I remind them I have meter and have to respect at least something of mine.
That match is really just a race to get the knife and hold the lead.
That’s why I was asking in regards to doing it as a corner combo. When he does the focus attack he always throws the knife the same distance backwards. My thoughts were Cody could potentially have another means of continuing his combo in the corner + if he continued to CU he could get an air recovery mixup since he’d have the knife in his hand again. Maybe even just j.MK, cr.HP xx CU xx fadc, cl.MP, cr.MP, cr.HP x knife pickup, cr.short or something xx CU, stab? The idea being the first combo is short enough to not push you too far away, but the 2nd half would push you far enough away to retrieve the knife. Don’t know if it works yet. If I get the time I might try it.
My buddy at UFGT played a set with a Cody player. He says Cody now has Adon’s walkspeed (forward and backwards) and that it’s making a big difference in footsies.
Then your buddy is mistaken. That is HIGHLY unlikely. That would be nearly a 40% increase in walk speed. Adon walks 0.05 forward 0.035 backward. Cody walks 0.038 forward 0.024 backward. If Cody’s walk speed is equal to Adon he is now faster than Rose
I showed him the video and he says the backwards walkspeed looks right, but the forward might be slightly too fast. He’s not sure because he never saw the forward walk for that long.
I’m skeptical myself but figured I would share since I’m told UFGT has the console build. We’ll just have to wait to see.
Well I’m glad it’s noticeable, I highly doubt it’s Adon’s but if Cody even has AE2012 Ken walk speed forward+backward I’ll be ecstatic. That would actually help the knife more than any other buff he got to the knife since he’d be much better at getting it and standing at the ideal ranges to prevent his knife normals from trading as much.
I wish we could f’n get some video of this walk speed.
That would be so fucking sick. Cl fp, walk cl fp would be legit and all the other cr fp frame traps could swap a st fp. Dam cody would be scary…

Lol that would be way to fast though as much as i would want it holy shit lol then again like you said cody’s walk animation makes stuff looks silly. Capcom plz drop his final fight style walk for a regular one so we can get buffs both ways.
